I wish everyone regardless of their nationality and ethnicity tried to be as honest in his life as this brave German Turk film director. I admire that in people and wish him and his family to stay safe and sound. heart emoticon

I've only recently discovered the films of Fatih Akin, and haven't seen this one yet, but the three films that I have seen are among the best I've watched in my life. I think he's a brilliant man! :)

My mothers family survived in Turkey (my great grandmothers), they were never rescued. The family doesn’t exist anymore, the genocide was completed, the family destroyed from the inside out for good.

What an amazing film and for sure what a brilliant director. I am proud of him. This is the power of the art as he showed the sorrow, alienation and loss of home by Nazaret's crazy travel to find his daughters. I loved it and I couldn't help crying in many scenes. Thank you Fatih Akın.

Just saw the film and it's easily Fatih's best work to date so congrats to him for taking on such a controversial project and turning it into an journey/experience that we can all learn something from. Fatih couldn't explain in the interview but the significance of the second rape scene in the film, where Nazareth helped the girl from getting raped in America, was to show that evil isn't a regional thing it's a personal thing and that doing nothing in such situations makes you loose a part of your soul as if you did it yourself. To me that's what the film was about more than anything else that no matter what happens don't let the experiences you've been through change you into doing that to others or letting it happen as you watch and stand up against what's wrong even if you know you will loose because at least you won't loose your humanity and keep that light shining just little longer until someone else sees it and does the same. So those of you commenting this is anti-this and pro-that while trying to use this well intentioned work of art as a medium to see who can say the most hurtful thing to the other, i advise you to look through your hate and you'll see that this is a film about having the courage to do the right thing even if everyone around is doing the wrong, it is about not loosing hope no matter how unreachable the distance may seem, & it's about not letting our past cripple us so that we can find that love we once lost just like our protagonist Nazareth.

Raping is not about personality. It's very common among men. Especially low standard countries men. And women should be protected. I'm an engineer and I worked in fabrics, almost all workers were potential rapers and I was always living in the fight or flight mode. I think Fatih understands women pretty well. We are always living under this threat. If you recognised that all women are understanding Nazaret is not a "normal guy" who tortures women physically and mentally and they are begging him to save them. We need more Nazarets in the world.

Wow. What a wonderful wise talk to listen to - Maria Titizian and Fatih Akin - and Wow. The drawing/pain-ting by Vrej Kassouny …- it was just recently when I discovered ‚The Cut‘ - - and every syllable un-spoken in that film still resonates.
And : Yes., it was my immediate reaction to read more and inform myself .
… the segments of concepts ‚How‘ to relate the history of threats and therewith picking up the thread of specific threats ...
It certainly leads into manifold layers and directions. ..-… it is expanding my bucket list
The Beauty of this Talk is in its fragile atmosphere . So friendly warm and calm.

I could listen to these 2 talk for days. This interview fleshes out a message I saw on a bumper sticker at least 25 years ago: "Small minds discuss people; average minds discuss events; great minds discuss ideas." The beauty of the interviewer certainly was an added bonus - I'm not gonna lie : she's gorgeous.

05:40 The ending of the film is so perfect because the armenians in the film are not normal armenians. They are western Armenians! Our destiny is to wander the earth without a home. Be it in Yerevan, in Mardin or in Germany, we will not be welcome anywhere. I am Western Armenian! In Germany I'm too foreign, in Turkey I'm too Armenian and in Yerevan I'm too Turkish!

  • @hoppidi6

Armenians need to start getting realistic and learn to appreciate these good intentions by Turks. no one can make a film that will fully satisfy them and be historically accurate at the same time. diaspora wants recognition of the genocide without any mention of what happened before the genocide. Armenians are not purely innocent in this matter. However, what was done to them is unacceptable.
Both sides need to stop holding grudges. Accept their faults and apologize. Turkey must return their belongings pay retribution. To Armenians of course, I am not talking about giving land to the Republic of Armenia. Turks and Armenians are very much culturally alike. Only religion divides them. It is a pity these two folks hold a century old grudge. Armenian diaspora please understand this, your actions don't affect Turks at all, they are bad for Armenians living in Turkey. Everything you do results in hatred and prejudice against Armenians living in Turkey.

Read about Seljuk Turkish Savageness By ARAB HISTORIAN: Sibt ibn al JAWZI,
In 1064, a large Seljuk Turkish army, headed by Sultan Alp Arslan, attacked Ani and after a siege of 25 days they captured the city and slaughtered its population. An account of the sack and massacres in Ani is given by the Arab historian Sibt ibn al-Jawzi, who quotes an eyewitness saying:
The army entered the city, massacred its inhabitants, pillaged and burned it, leaving it in ruins and taking prisoner all those who remained alive...The dead bodies were so many that they blocked the streets; one could not go anywhere without stepping over them. And the number of prisoners was not less than 50,000 souls. I was determined to enter city and see the destruction with my own eyes. I tried to find a street in which I would not have to walk over the corpses; but that was impossible.[16]

      The Byzantine Empire had weakened Ani alot by long wars ;
in 1045 Ani surrended to the Byzantine Empire ; the king
Gakig who was invited to Constantinople was detained there,
soon after ,in 1065 the turkik Seljukits arrived to invade the city and massacre it's population . Thus the eastern door of
Anatolia was opened wide letting the ottomans to advace
deepand capture Constantinople . Many Greek historians
      regrette that strategic fault !
