@@hondamx191 I feel when I first started fly fishing, I was a lot more deliberate , and put more thought into what I was doing. Now I just chuck buggers . I'm taking thing more serious this year.
Great explanations without distractions, I am a fly fisherman but I feel this type of fishing very interesting as well so I keep following your videos to learn more thanks, keep up the good work 👍
I watched a center-pin guy wading behind me catch 3 steelhead that completely ignored my Spey flies just a moment before. I bought a used center pin outfit that week and have had soooooo much fun actually catching steelhead in the PNW for the last 10 or 12 years…. Best way for steelhead and River Springers (Chinook in PNW). Great video-please track me down if you are ever in Oregon…. We’ll take a good trip…
Surprising to see you guys pinning on the other side of the pond is it not that popular among anglers over there? I thought it was an old UK style of fishing great video by the way 👍🏻
Thanks for the video. It really helped me understand the float and center pin set up. I'll be off to the Salmon River soon - with this knowledge in tow... Thanks again!!!
I'm pissed, as a kid for the longest time I had a rod that felt like a fly rod but without a fly rod handle. And at the time centerpins were not as popular as they are today, but now Im positive it was a centerpin and I'm pissed I don't have it anymore. There's a rod on the bloodrun site that's a four piece, 10.5 3 weight/ultralight rod you can use for spinning or pins. It's just that despite using almost strictly ultralight gear most of my life and it being perfect for drifting crayfish for smallmouth like I love, I just wish it were light action like my favorite walleye rod and my current steelhead rod
Hi Kyle, I'm sending fishing greetings from the Czech Republic. I start fishing with a centrepin reel. Can I fish from the river bank? I don't have a boat. I like the simple technique and the 1:1 conversion is fun. Thanks, Libor
Nice tutorial. I've been trying to figure out how to explain the positioning of the left hand for years, but "upside down L" is brilliant. I use a similar technique, but I sit the L up so that line runs over my thumb instead of my fingers. Thanks!
Greetings from the UK, really clear advice and that steelhead was a magnificent fish. In the UK we call the technique 'long trotting' and it works for a wide range of our freshwater fish. We normally run the line off the top of the reel and I don't know if anyone has ever tried a bead but otherwise the technique is very similar
The bead is a single egg imitation which the rainbows or salmon would feed on in America using fish roe is legal I think in the UK its illegal but you can correct me if I am rwrong.
Have you tried taping it like we show in the video? If you get it really snug and tape it tightly, you shouldn’t have issues of it sliding out. The electrical tape is easy to remove as well if you want to change things up.
Another tip learn to adjust the pressure of your fingers when mending your line the more you move your float the more your bait moves and looks unnatural
Great video very informative would love another one similar on what you look for to fish like a deep long run or just running over smaller holes looking for hits?
Great job on the video. Thank you for taking time away from your fishing to put together an instructional video. I hope this gives other folks the confidence to give centerpin a shot. It’s a ton of fun. Thanks again!!
Excellent video. I just moved to Idaho and planning on branching out my fishing from Cuts to Steelhead. Seems one setup around here is to use 30lb. mono for these fish.. Do you think this rod/reel setup and your recommendations will work for these waters as well? I like the Centerpin idea technique.. Gives me something to watch as well... Thanks Again- Great info!
Nice video. What do you do when you want to shorten your length from bobber to bead and you have a split shot in the way? Can you remove these split shot easily? Do they have the ears on them? Didn't look like it. Great video man.
Try an FG knot for connecting mainline to backing. Kind of a pain to tie but you don't get the bump in the spool as the knot is super flexible. If/when you get put on the backing the knot slides ultra smooth through the guides as well.
Spectacular video, love the detail on center pinning. I have same Raven reel and rod set up but never used it because unfamiliar with how to center pin. So I just grab the spinning reel. I changed my mind now. Great tips!
Awesome Video! Very nice explanation on Centerpin setup techniques! What kind of Pliers do You use? Do You ever fish Lake Erie Buffalo Ny Tributaries? I live in Buffalo and We have Lake Erie and Lake Ontario Tributaries here.
I don’t have a specific brand of pliers I recommend but I think the ones in this video are KVD pliers. I have fished in and around Buffalo before! It’s a great area
Nice job Capt Kyle! Maggie should pull together a collection of outtakes, just for the fun of it. “XXL Chrome Chasing, outtakes 2021”….gotta be 😂 HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Kyle can you talk about the pro's and con's of braid vs mono as mainline with regard to centerpin fishing? Besides regional climate considerations, just strictly for the aspect of fishing.
Great video thanks for posting this, been waiting for someone to do a video on how to spool the line on a centerpin. Nice chrome hen at the end as a bonus!
Awesome video! Do you need to use a shot line or can you just put a split shot or two on your leader? I'm just curious because with that shot line, it looks like a expensive rig to lose if it breaks off.
6 feet is about the average length. You could go longer and or shorter depending on the average depth of the holes in the river you are fishing. I use a shot line any time I am fishing deep holes with consistent current. I use bulk shot when fishing rapidy/broken water.
Thanks!@@AdventureChasing would you say that if you don't use a shot line your hookup/fish landed percentages would go down? I typically don't use a shot line, just curious if it helps with % of fish hooked/landed.
Great video. Awesome content. I grew up running plugs in the Muskegon and grand. Center pin looks like so much fun. I just started back dropping plugs again on the grand in my Z21 nitro bass boat. 🤣🤣 I get a ton of crazy looks but it works well for trolling. Great content and maybe we will cross paths one day on the river!!

you may already have done this one but id like to see how yall run skien sacks under a float!

Hey quick question, what does the bead do above the hook? Many thanks
isn't braid better for mainline because it floats...as opposed to mono that sinks? and also mono won't twist.
Congrats on the addicted movie been watching your vids for time now always knew you would make it 👍
Thanks Don! We had a great time with them
Thats absolutely great! Let me know your opinion about new Redband 45 bait-cast centerpin reel?
Just lost my third steelhead on my center pin😅 all because I keep forgetting to let the darn fish run😂😂😂
I am having a problem where my line is wrapping around the outside of my reel at the end of the cast
That was one of the best/most informative fishing videos I've ever watched...and I've seen a few over the years haha. Well done and good content.

@@AdventureChasing thank you so much
Another great video.
😍😍😍
What’s the difference in using removable splitshot vs. non removable, apart from the obvious?
I find that the ears on the split shot cause more tangles and line twist. Just personal preference to use the shot with no ears!
Fishing line should be reeled in water so that it fits well in the reel and does not have electrostatics.
Another tip learn to adjust the pressure of your fingers when mending your line the more you move your float the more your bait moves and looks unnatural
For sure!
Awesome video!! You guys are the best🙂
What are your thoughts on crimping shot with your pliers but cutting line with your teeth?
Got em
You should use pliers for everything but old habits die hard
@@AdventureChasing thought that was funny. I use my teeth for everything except braid ofc lol

Thanks for the tutorial 👍what length of rod would you recommend?
A good rod length for all-around is 11’6. For strictly small streams a 10’6 would be best and for larger river systems a 13’ is good.

Step 1: Return the centerpin rod
Step 2: Purchase a single hand or spey rod
