Hey Julie, Happy Thursday. I think having them read independently and write about what they read is a great way for them to understand what they’re reading. ❤ It’s a great way to carry with them in their future studies and schooling as well because when I was in school (elementary-college) I would have to read a book and write about what I read and it would help me remember the concept for the tests. ❤ Those books sound so fun to read as well. I enjoyed writing notes while I was reading too.

I love these suggestions! I'll be checking these out for sure! Thank you.
A series my son devoured last year when he was 10, was the Lane Walker "Hometown Hunters Collection." He also wrote a fishing series for that same age range. I would estimate the grade level to be between grades 3-5.

I have a daughter in grade 8 this year. We have already started our curriculum and are happy with it. However, I just found your channel and decided to see what your 8th grader is doing this year.😊

I enjoyed seeing the books your kids are reading. It's nice to get some new ideas for books for my kids to read!

I wish I could get my son (6th grade) to read independently and enjoy it. I have read aloud to him daily since he was a baby. He loves listening to the stories and considers it bonding time. He enjoys fantasy or adventure type books but I haven’t been able to get him to read the books himself. He has ADHD so I asked his counselor for advice. She tested his reading and said he reads really well but he’s focusing too much on the mechanics of reading than the actual story so he doesn’t remember what he’s read which is common. Her advice was to continue reading aloud and have him read younger books or subtitles to his favorite shows just to keep him practicing. She believes eventually he will start reading on his own when he’s ready. He’s actually started picking up words in Japanese from reading the subtitles to his favorite shows.
