I wish I was a poet Could write in fine hand I'd write my love a letter One she'd long understand I'd send it by the water Where the islands overflow And I'd think of pretty Saro Wherever I go
My students told me I would love TH-cam, and they were right. This is some great music, but do I ever hear any of it on radio? Or mainstream TV? This is the place for young spirits to congregate for all things fresh, beautiful, and funny. And some off-color stuff too. I could listen to this music over and over and over.
I came to this country Eighteen and forty nine I thought myself lucky For to be alive I looked all around me No one could I see That I could compare With my pretty Saree
Really a wonderful video. Excellent idea and execution. Even though it was all archive you created a real time, place, more important, a real right emotion.
'Tis not this long journey That grieves me for to go Nor the country that I'm leaving Nor the debts that I owe There's one thing that grieves me And bears on my mind That's leaving my darling Pretty Saro behind
interesting sound this guy sam amidon has, kinda reminds me of coldplay mixed with some philip glass...really sounds like the kinda music that will grown on u the more u listen to it
I don't think this is 'obviously sentimental'. This song is so reminiscent of Classic Americana, that this video is exactly the medium this song requires.
This isnt the officiel vid, right? I think its way to obviously sentimental. Whats great about about samamidon is that he has given these great songs a rebirth - and a relevance in this day and age. I think the music should be left standing on its own and not be forced into this sentimental settler setting.
@JoelMatton :) I saw that one too, in Rönneholmsparken. My flat faces out in to the park, so it was quite a treat to stroll over in flip flops and listen to such a talent right on my doorstep. Only the weather was missing but perhaps the grey highlighted the poignancy of the sound. Lovely concert.
words can't describe how beautiful this is. Makes my lifetime top five
I wish I was a poet
Could write in fine hand
I'd write my love a letter
One she'd long understand
I'd send it by the water
Where the islands overflow
And I'd think of pretty Saro
Wherever I go
Just can't hold back the tears when I hear this.
Literally one of the sweetest, saddest songs I've ever heard

what a discovery for me...a feeling like I get from Nick Drake and Paul Brady....and he's a fellow New England-born lad ...l-o-v-e love it
This is contemporary music with a window to the past. I really enjoyed it!

I watched this about a week ago for the first time, and the song has stayed with me since then. Lovely.
Beautiful. Wonderful. Superb. Timeless. Hauntin'.

'Tis not this long journey
That grieves me for to go
Nor the country that I'm leaving
Nor the debts that I owe
There's one thing that grieves me
And bears on my mind
That's leaving my darling
Pretty Saro behind

Great video.
Just got into this artist then find out he's playing Bristol on the 19th and I just can't make it. Gaaaaargh! As song writers go, he's well up there.

It's like a child's voice, yet the content is adult

Beautiful song, but the video always makes me a bit sad.
FIRST. in months.
he's not really a song writer though; these are all old folk standards
