I love that you're academic. I love my brain being stimulated. I am a brand new Tarot lover, I feel deeply called to re-awaken my intuition and imagination, and to know God (Myself). through imagery, story, poetry, feeling, art..... I lived in a Buddhist monastery for 2.5 years in my 20's, then thought I would become a Catholic nun. Instead, I plunged into the world, but lost my childlike, artistic, playful connection with the divine. Tarot is whispering to me as a bridge back.... to play, and create and synthesize what I hear within.. Thank you so much for your videos, I'm learning so much from you! Blessings... xoxox
oh, I just ordered the book "Meditation on the Tarot; Journey into Christian Hermeticism". by Anonymous (a Russian monk). The reviews are fabulous. Right up my alley! but for me, now, a bigger invitation is to start actually playing with the cards!
Lisa -- your background as an academic and teacher is a great gift to all of us. I LOVE the way you are breaking this down and making it simple. You bring the discipline of years of research and study together with the practice of reading for clients together so beautifully for the benefit of us all. Thank you so much. This breakdown contained the fruit of dozens of books boiled down into one easily digested snack. Yum, yum!!!
NaT-J Thank YOU so much for watching and for your incredibly thoughtful postings. I’d love to learn more about your journey, and how your Tibetan Buddhism integrates both with your doula work and with your experience of the 78!!
It's a pleasure! I'm so geeked to find another Buddhist academic who's so into the tarot! I'm planning to do some doula videos, but I would be happy to make a video about the Tibetan Buddhist practices I've come into contact with and the whole journey. Thank you for asking!
I love that academia delivery!!! Do not stop. This type of content is what I look for in a Tarot video. Not here's another mindless unboxing....Love the nitty gritty, the "diving in". I was thinking about what you said and life events, much like the Tarot progression of arcana, are a sequence of Thesis, Untithesis, and Synthesis in constant cycle. So much food for thought. This series is nourishing! Thank you
Oh thank you so much Veronique for your sweet words and your support. If you're at all interested in learning more, I do have a mentorship program that's brand new and gearing up in March (forgive me for promoting it...): www.calyxcontemplative.com/mindful-tarot-mentorship
Absolutely amazing all the cultural background you add to the reading of these cards. The associations one can draw are inmense, practically endless. When you mentioned the stick of Hercules I thought "this is so smart", but it's actually more than that. It's knowing to read the myths and stories that found a given culture. In argentinean Spanish, we have this saying "palo y a la bolsa", meaning something like "hit it with a stick and put it in the bag"; once again, the batons as a symbol of determination, will. Great series!
Thank you so much, Mateusz. I'm always so thrilled at how international this community is (and I wish I spoke Polish - what a freaking beautiful language!) (Not to mention - the vast numbers of GORGEOUS Polish tarot decks....)
That's quite an insight, the yin and yang of the Minor Arcana suits: round/harmony vs. pointy/conflict. I never realized that before. Thank you, this helps me understand tarot more as a whole now.
I am really liking this series Lisa! I look forward to each video. Wow I love how you broke it down to round and pointy never looked at it that way, this is why I love this series you make us look at things differently.
"The game of triumphs" where did you pull that line from that is amazing that definitely just added a dimension for me. Also when you explained the swords as being about clarity and cutting through delusion which i can see in the sense that you want the energy of the sword to be subject to you however I cant help but see each sword as a thought that the progression in number indicates holding onto thoughts and making them beliefs becomes a gradual limitation. each belief held creates another duality another right and wrong compartmentalizing reality to the point of imprisonment then finally the discarding of your entire conception of reality killing the "old man" in order to be reborn where anything is possible and perhaps another chance at maybe wielding one sword as an extension of your own body rather than overthink it. what do you think lol
This is going to be an amazing series. I have an academic background too, and I just love this approach to tarot. It makes so much sense to me. Thank you for this video series.
1:19 Thought we were gonna dub it the "Harris-Crowley" Tarot deck, a la the Artist and "Smith-Waite?" (Just kidding, kinda...) This series goes along well w my Depth Year.
Another great video. Starting to learn about and see the '1-2-3' unity/division/synthesis really made me see tarot in a new way - love how Rachel Pollack talks about this in 78 Degrees. Looking forward to seeing how this series unfolds. :)
Oh Pollack is so great. I'll have to go back to that book. Where does she talk about this kind of movement? - I'm interested, in general, in how evens and odds work within the mandala of tarot ... reflections being interrupted; harmonies being created; new, more complex symmetries emerging!
@@MindfulTarot She may discuss it elsewhere, but the bit of the book that I was referring to is "Chapter 1: The Four Card Pattern." She goes through the Fool, Magician, High Priestess, and World cards, with the Fool splitting into the apparent opposites of I and II, with the World as a unity restored but also of a new sort. It's not an especially long section but I remember it really hitting me when I read it.
As a male, I read somewhere that Tarot readers are all women and only women can read it and for a male is a bit taboo and disrespectful. Can anyone pls tell me if this is true? that as a man i shouldn't start learning it because of disrespect?
Not true!!! But as with so many helping professions (e.g nursing, counseling, social work), the demographics do often tend toward female practitioners. This bias reflects cultural stereotype and needs to be challenged daily. Thank you so much for your practice!!! Keep learning and reading tarot!!
Namaste. dear Lisa! You are so brilliant i need sunglasses...xoxoxoxox So many yummy morsels to chew and digest. You are a cornucopia of insight... BTW, sweet lady, i will be eMailing you later today with that list we discussed...

This is exactly what I needed, I’m so happy to have found your channel
Round suits and pointy suits. Thesis, antithesis, synthesis. Brilliant. I love this series, thank you!
Thanks so much, Rori!!! - I don't think the round and pointy is my invention, but I'll certainly take the praise!! ha!

Nice distillation. Learning a new language is a lot about the grammar. This perfectly lays the foundations for understanding the tarot. Thanks!

Thank you so much for your kindness, and for sharing "palo y a la bolsa" with me. What a great phrase!!!
I agree with most what you are saying; you are dealing with the Rosicrucian. I deal with it in the Kabbala Which the major incarna
I love your academic style, Lisa

Love your explanation! Thank you for sharing!
Brilliant! I hadn't thought of the addition of pips in that way (wealth, conflict...). Love this series! It's so helpful!
This video has been so so so helpful!

Hi Vicki -thanks so much for watching. What's your discipline in what @NaT-J calls "academentia"??
@@MindfulTarot I am a librarian. I have a MA in Spanish and an MSLS in library science. I didn't have the staying power to do a PhD!
Wow! Brilliant yet simple and easy to understand!!! Loving this series, Lisa!!!!

Loving this series Lisa!

Really enjoy your method of teaching, thank you for this series.
Love this new series...I’ve learned so much already....I guess I need to get a Marseille deck ...as I have RWS and Morgan Greer👍🏻
