Played it yesterday, it's basically another one of them "child lost in a big and scary world" much how yathzee puts it. Honestly, while the game does look nice and all, the whole "string puppetry" aesthetic is just that... An aesthetic. Think they could've done something more with it, like in Manual Samuel, where you gotta control every body part and such kinda like QWOP. But it's just your usual cinematic platformer, kinda glitchy too, managed to break the game a few times too. Also, I kinda don't understand at all how, like... The game/story it's set as the narrator in a pub telling the story to others, so, even if you control the girl, technically it's the guy that's controlling her and everything else, more or less, no? But one of the recurring theme is going against him, to the point of breaking them strings and moving on your own... But if it's him telling the story in "real life", how does that make any bit of sense? Gets to the point where the narrator more or less goes mad trying to stop you... Dunno, didn't find it a huge problem, but still, while I can handwave some things that do happen with some excuses or what, this part kinda puzzles me a bit, lol
Thanks for playing Elise 🙏 I was hoping for this to have a bit more catch in the story than it sounds like it did. I still like the visual style but I'm on board to wait for a sale for something this short. I hope you're as well as you can be 🍻 Cheers and thanks for all you make!
I don’t really agree 100%. It seemed to me that there were a lot of subliminal references to slavery which really do create emotional connection to the story. I guess it’s whatever way you look at it. Also the puzzles were really fun to work out. I’m super hard to please but I really loved this one tbh. The end was beautiful too.
Can you do a review of the new madness project nexus game? I’m hesitant on picking it up, but curious, because I loved the flash version in high school
Appreciate the review. I came here now because I debating if I should grab this for the Switch while Nintendo's eshop holiday sale has it for $2.15? There are many other titles at that price but so many just feel like mobile phone games.
It's been too long since I've had a gaming console, I have no clue which titles to go for out of the ones on sale, especially before many of these titles go back to their normal price in 5 hours. How often does Nintendo eShop do such big sale discounts or are the current sales really just because of the Christmas/New Year's holidays? discounts or are the current sales really just because of the Christmas/New Year's holidays?
If you liked the demo, you'll probably enjoy the full game, which is very consistent in quality! It's just hard to recommend to people who don't already like this genre.
Man, The Escapist are really focussing harsh reviewers. "I enjoyed it but I can't think of a reason to recommend it" is low grade, unfiltered bad reviewing. Bring back Marty and Amy - they know how to do reviews well.
The review specifically says if you don’t already like this type of game, then she doesn’t recommend it. Not sure where you're getting this was a "harsh" review considering her main complaints was that the movement was a bit too slow and that the story didn't really hook her. If that's what you consider harsh, then you just want your opinions affirmed and not an actual critical review.
What grand and sweeping film essay did you expect in a short review series consisting entirely of very short reviews? 'Good enough to finish but not good enough to recommend' is a coherent and clear assessment, whether or not it makes your opinion feel validated.
@@UnreasonableOpinions It would be a correct assessment, but it wasn't ever said. The hopefully perfect quote is "I struggle to come up with a reason that anyone who doesn't already love cinematic platformers should play this one". Right after saying that the game was good, and the ending great, and right before saying that for fans of the genre (and bears) it is a solid choice. I think Ljotr just misheard/misunderstood the line, and built a narrative of it for some reason - instead of double checking.
I didn't mishear anything. There's a clear difference between the reviewing styles of Amy and Marty (good reviewers) and this person and KC (bad reviewers). The way Amy and Marty review talks about the good things and the bad things, but most importantly explains why. The others just complain and don't invest the time into explaining why. Perhaps they're not seasoned enough with writing reviews, since this person's review was literally a series of check-boxes of points to make rather than well rounded and thought out. Maybe watch Amy and Marty's stuff and directly compare them. It's pretty obvious when you pay attention.
I don't think it's harsh, just honest. More of that please!
You just don't get it maaaaan, if it's not a 11 out of 10, and praised twice in every sentence, then it is a harsh eviscerating hatchet job...
Ahh! my mistake!

Almost 20€ for 2 hours of playtime does not sound right to me... It's unfortunate because this game looks great :(

Ngl this is a game that I really like! Its definitely not for everyone, but I really like it 😊
Just picked up for $2.87. Great price for a cozy couple of hours.
wonderful review! answered a lot of the questions i had about the game. thank you so much, Elise!
Sounds like a miss to me. I was surprised to hear you say you enjoyed it after hearing what you said about it for the first half of the review.
I got that game on sale on the Switch!
Great review. What are your top cinematic platformers?
Thanks for saving me a purchase
Much better review! Tighter script from start to finish and better voiceover

Sounds like a well executed game.
So discount Inside.
Honestly yes
it looks interesting but not something I want to try immediately I'll wait for this one
I played the demo and liked it, kinda bummed out to see this harsh review. Guess I'll be waiting for a good sale to try it out?

@@Elisenaps Hmm... Ok, thanks for the heads up! I'll check it out

Can’t watch - no closed captions. 😕
Lovely game!
