A SIMPLIFIED UNDERSTANDING OF THE FIRST COUNCIL OF NICEAE IN 325 A.D: THE NICENE CREED AND THE CREATION OF A DIVINE PERSON BY THE CHURCH FATHERS THROUGH A VOTE. The historical event titled the council of Niceae of 325 A.D, has been described by modern historians as the first ecumenical gathering of Bishops of the Christian faith to discuss, settle, vote and make a decree on various issues that brought division in Christendom. When Constantine became the Emperor around 312 A.D, he saw how the Roman Empire is characterized by violence, civil war and total anarchy between the Pagans and the Christians. He feared that Rome under him, will be destroyed through violence therefore in 313 A.D, he decided to make Christianity a legal Religion as others through a royal declaration named the Edict of Milan. This declaration to an extent, brought peace, tranquility and order in Rome. For once in the history of Christianity in Rome, the Christians were allowed to practice their Religion without fight or bloodshed. This proclamation, stopped the persecution and granted the Christians freedom to preach about their Jesus Christ. As Christianity began to grow coupled with its new status of legalization and recognition from the Roman Political Authorities, the Religion became complex. Issues that needed clarification started arising. Some of the Christians needed answers to difficult questions that has not been answered. The issue of Jesus date of birth, the issue of the day of Easter celebration, fabrication of books, the divinity of Jesus (whether Jesus is divinely powerful as claimed) and most importantly, the issue of the holy Trinity were strong issues tearing the Religion apart. This various disagreement and conflict on challenging issues was at the zenith of tearing Christianity as a Religion into two. In other to save Christianity from this bitter internal disputes and in other to agree on a single doctrine that will govern the Christian religion and the church, Emperor Constantine in 325 A.D, called for a Council of all Church Bishops to gather and resolve this disputes through votes. In our discussion, we are going to start with one of the major issues that necessitated the assembling of this council of Niceae by Emperor Constantine. The doctrine about the person of Jesus had troubled both the common believer and the theologian from the very beginning of Christianity but had not surfaced until the time of Constantine and the legalization of Christianity in Rome. The quarrel started between a Libyan Priests named Arius and Alexander who is the bishop of Alexandria. Their disputes was about the true doctrine of the Person of Jesus which turned into a sharp dissension and also a split among the clergy into two major antagonistic parties. Arius claimed that there was only one Person, which he described as God the Father, and not three distinct, equal and co-eternal Persons in God as the Bishop of Alexandra claimed. According to Arius, the Son (Jesus) was not exactly of the same nature as the Father (God) and therefore was not equal with the Father (God) and had to be subordinate to the Father (God). Jesus was the Son in that he was the highest of created things by the Father (God) and a sort of demigod created for the salvation of the world. The son (Jesus) had a human body but not a human nature. Nevertheless his inhuman nature was not equal to the Father (God). But on the other hand, the opponent or adversaries of Arius however, held a different view. To them, the Father (God) and the Son (Jesus), were of the same substance and one (Jesus) cannot be subordinated to the other (God). A vote was carried out by the council. Emperor Constantine called 1,800 bishops to attend this great council but history recorded that the numbers that attended were few but it was recorded that the opponents of Arius won therefore, the Council declared that the Son was true God, coeternal with the Father and begotten from his same substance and concluded that such a doctrine best codified the scriptural presentation of the Son as well as traditional Christian belief about Jesus. Furthermore, Emperor Constantine after seeing that the opponents of Arius had won, made a decree of exiling anyone who refuse to accept the outcome of the council. Arius and his supporters, refused to adhere to the conclusion of the council, and were immediately exiled and excommunicated. Also, writings of Arius were forcefully taken and burnt to ashes and his dedicated supporters were declared enemies of Christianity by the church Bishops and Papacy. The total decision and votes of agreement were called the Nicene Creed. In my own argument, a question should be asked. why will Jesus divinity be debated by the church and strong Christian fathers? If Jesus existed and he performed miracles why will the church Papacy argue and even vote to proof that? Why did other church fathers disagreed to the divinity and supernatural powers believe to have been performed by Jesus? Why were those who disagreed to the Nicene Creed exiled and excommunicated? In the council of Niceae, it was believe that various scrolls which became the new testament Bible today, were written and added together to form a single book called the new testament. The new testament (Gnostic Gospels) were more of the birth, life and death of Jesus Christ and the way and manner the story of his life went was more of a fictional story than a true life story. If Jesus was such a great person then why didn't the Bible mention anything of his childhood rather they waited till he was 30 years before they mentioned him. It was only the part he was teaching the elders that was mentioned when his mother came to him to caution him about his whereabout. As of the Gnostic Gospels, there are extant writings accredited to the Apostolic Fathers such as Clement of Rome, Barnabas, Hermas, Ignatius, and Polycarp; written, for the most part, early in the second century. These writings did not mention anything from the four Gnostic Gospels. In other words, the four gospels were unknown to the early Christian Fathers till 325 A.D after they have fabricated a dramatic story of Jesus or such story was fabricated and written as the four Gnostic Gospels and was presented to the council to counter Bishop Arius argument on the divinity of Jesus as elaborated above in other to win the case. Historians have argued that there might not be any book about new testament that wrote about jesus till 325 A.D. Justin Martyr, the most eminent of the early Fathers, wrote about the middle of the second century. His writings in proof of the divinity of Christ would have demanded the use of the four Gnostic Gospels if truly they existed in his time but rather, he made more than three hundred quotations from the books of the Old Testament but none from the four Gospels. Conclusively, this council called by Constantine was directed at settling disputes that was arising and causing division in Christendom and the outcome or decisions made in this council were contained in the Nicene Creed

A SIMPLIFIED UNDERSTANDING OF THE FIRST COUNCIL OF NICEAE IN 325 A.D: THE NICENE CREED AND THE CREATION OF A DIVINE PERSON BY THE CHURCH FATHERS THROUGH A VOTE.
The historical event titled the council of Niceae of 325 A.D, has been described by modern historians as the first ecumenical gathering of Bishops of the Christian faith to discuss, settle, vote and make a decree on various issues that brought division in Christendom. When Constantine became the Emperor around 312 A.D, he saw how the Roman Empire is characterized by violence, civil war and total anarchy between the Pagans and the Christians. He feared that Rome under him, will be destroyed through violence therefore in 313 A.D, he decided to make Christianity a legal Religion as others through a royal declaration named the Edict of Milan. This declaration to an extent, brought peace, tranquility and order in Rome. For once in the history of Christianity in Rome, the Christians were allowed to practice their Religion without fight or bloodshed. This proclamation, stopped the persecution and granted the Christians freedom to preach about their Jesus Christ.
As Christianity began to grow coupled with its new status of legalization and recognition from the Roman Political Authorities, the Religion became complex. Issues that needed clarification started arising. Some of the Christians needed answers to difficult questions that has not been answered. The issue of Jesus date of birth, the issue of the day of Easter celebration, fabrication of books, the divinity of Jesus (whether Jesus is divinely powerful as claimed) and most importantly, the issue of the holy Trinity were strong issues tearing the Religion apart. This various disagreement and conflict on challenging issues was at the zenith of tearing Christianity as a Religion into two. In other to save Christianity from this bitter internal disputes and in other to agree on a single doctrine that will govern the Christian religion and the church, Emperor Constantine in 325 A.D, called for a Council of all Church Bishops to gather and resolve this disputes through votes.
In our discussion, we are going to start with one of the major issues that necessitated the assembling of this council of Niceae by Emperor Constantine. The doctrine about the person of Jesus had troubled both the common believer and the theologian from the very beginning of Christianity but had not surfaced until the time of Constantine and the legalization of Christianity in Rome. The quarrel started between a Libyan Priests named Arius and Alexander who is the bishop of Alexandria. Their disputes was about the true doctrine of the Person of Jesus which turned into a sharp dissension and also a split among the clergy into two major antagonistic parties. Arius claimed that there was only one Person, which he described as God the Father, and not three distinct, equal and co-eternal Persons in God as the Bishop of Alexandra claimed. According to Arius, the Son (Jesus) was not exactly of the same nature as the Father (God) and therefore was not equal with the Father (God) and had to be subordinate to the Father (God). Jesus was the Son in that he was the highest of created things by the Father (God) and a sort of demigod created for the salvation of the world. The son (Jesus) had a human body but not a human nature. Nevertheless his inhuman nature was not equal to the Father (God). But on the other hand, the opponent or adversaries of Arius however, held a different view. To them, the Father (God) and the Son (Jesus), were of the same substance and one (Jesus) cannot be subordinated to the other (God).
A vote was carried out by the council. Emperor Constantine called 1,800 bishops to attend this great council but history recorded that the numbers that attended were few but it was recorded that the opponents of Arius won therefore, the Council declared that the Son was true God, coeternal with the Father and begotten from his same substance and concluded that such a doctrine best codified the scriptural presentation of the Son as well as traditional Christian belief about Jesus. Furthermore, Emperor Constantine after seeing that the opponents of Arius had won, made a decree of exiling anyone who refuse to accept the outcome of the council. Arius and his supporters, refused to adhere to the conclusion of the council, and were immediately exiled and excommunicated. Also, writings of Arius were forcefully taken and burnt to ashes and his dedicated supporters were declared enemies of Christianity by the church Bishops and Papacy. The total decision and votes of agreement were called the Nicene Creed.
In my own argument, a question should be asked. why will Jesus divinity be debated by the church and strong Christian fathers? If Jesus existed and he performed miracles why will the church Papacy argue and even vote to proof that? Why did other church fathers disagreed to the divinity and supernatural powers believe to have been performed by Jesus? Why were those who disagreed to the Nicene Creed exiled and excommunicated? In the council of Niceae, it was believe that various scrolls which became the new testament Bible today, were written and added together to form a single book called the new testament. The new testament (Gnostic Gospels) were more of the birth, life and death of Jesus Christ and the way and manner the story of his life went was more of a fictional story than a true life story. If Jesus was such a great person then why didn't the Bible mention anything of his childhood rather they waited till he was 30 years before they mentioned him. It was only the part he was teaching the elders that was mentioned when his mother came to him to caution him about his whereabout. As of the Gnostic Gospels, there are extant writings accredited to the Apostolic Fathers such as Clement of Rome, Barnabas, Hermas, Ignatius, and Polycarp; written, for the most part, early in the second century. These writings did not mention anything from the four Gnostic Gospels. In other words, the four gospels were unknown to the early Christian Fathers till 325 A.D after they have fabricated a dramatic story of Jesus or such story was fabricated and written as the four Gnostic Gospels and was presented to the council to counter Bishop Arius argument on the divinity of Jesus as elaborated above in other to win the case. Historians have argued that there might not be any book about new testament that wrote about jesus till 325 A.D. Justin Martyr, the most eminent of the early Fathers, wrote about the middle of the second century. His writings in proof of the divinity of Christ would have demanded the use of the four Gnostic Gospels if truly they existed in his time but rather, he made more than three hundred quotations from the books of the Old Testament but none from the four Gospels. Conclusively, this council called by Constantine was directed at settling disputes that was arising and causing division in Christendom and the outcome or decisions made in this council were contained in the Nicene Creed
