Thats something I've been concerned about as well ever since Molly said that Lavender was spicy as well. Getting friendly kittens is on the foster parent raising them not on the kittens to figure out themselves
@@giabarrone7422 Not always true. Been a pet owner all my life, dogs and cats. They can get used to each other. We had one cat who was afraid of our dog (at first) when we first adopted her at the age of 2. They became such good friends over time. When my dog died, she became severely depressed. So not all hope is lost.
@@TokyoACR but that doesn’t work for every cat, some cats just don’t want to get used to dogs like Sakura, so it’s much better to do it when they’re kittens. And it’s much safer as they don’t know really how to attack like an adult cat It’s easier with dogs at any age cause they can get usually much more used to adult cats and they’re more welcoming
It will typically take days for animals to get used to each other and in a slower process so idk I think this is pretty awesome that Pearl and Lea were able to chill in the same place with no injuries, kudos to you Joey!
I agree. The quicker he is able to get them used to these puppies the more likely they are to accept other animals in their new homes once they’re adopted too. Usually the younger the kitten the more likely they are to successfully get used to other animals.
You should definitely try do this daily while you still have the puppies! The more the kittens see and are around the puppies the easier and faster it'll take for them to understand and get used to having dogs around! This was so sweet though, the way the kittens all jumped so cute !
If you are going to introduce a new animal to another you have to spend at least a couple of days letting them get used to each other's scent from separate rooms/areas. It doesn't matter if it is cat and cat or dog and cat or dog and dog. Putting them together, face to face, suddenly will never work. 😺
I think it would have gone better if you had the puppies in a small kennel so the kitties could come up to them and feels safe. You could do that maybe everyday or so, so that they're used to seeing and smelling the puppies. Then take one puppy and put them in with the kittens at the time where they'd be most relaxed. Also maybe feed the kittens in front of the kennel when they start to eat (they should soon bc they're around 5 weeks)

It might actually be better to have them meet in a neutral area rather than the kitten's playpen. Often with adults, there are physical boundaries in place (start out in separate, but adjacent rooms) and they gradually get closer until they're comfortable enough with each other.
I was really having a bad day and seeing those kittens scare themselves had me laughing so hard. Dialysis is painful and time-consuming. But seeing those kittens was so so funny. Thanks for making my day a little brighter
I’m so glad that Joey if finally socializing the fosters! It takes a lot of time to get them to adjust to each other. It’s best to include blankets into the cat pin so that they can sleep and play on the puppies scents. It helps them acclimate. I highly recommend food to this equation as well. A Positive experience during the meeting process with food can shift the way they think. Also the meetings should last for a couple hours at a time minimum. Once the kitties realize they are not under attack then their natural energy levels will force them into playing mode. From there curiosity breeds socializing.
That must have been so stressfull for the little ones. Maybe an introduction in a bigger place where they can hide and come out on their own terms would be better?
I love, LOVE the commentary when Sukara is getting her (well deserved) screen time! I look forward to her appearance in every video she graces us with. 🎥⭐🏆
As long as you have the puppies you should keep trying to have the puppies interact with the kittens, it might help with their anxiety over new things and animals. These puppies are pretty similar in size and calmer than other puppies I've seen you with. It's also good for the puppies. I know it's a stressful thing to do, but you did pretty good considering the kitten's reaction
Okay, so I’ve heard through the grape vine that one of the best times to introduce them is during meal time in separate enclosures, but still can see and smile each other at the same time. But this is just one way to do it. 🤷🏻♀️.
I wonder if it would have gone better to have the kittens and puppies meet in a neutral space? Seeing them one on one was so cute, I died when Lea Michele tried playing with Mica 😍🥺
It's really good that you're introducing the animals to each other. Even though the kittens seemed scared, it's important for them to experience new things. If you had more time, and were able to give them short experiences every day, I believe they would eventually become more comfortable.
You should introduce them gradualy. Jackson Galaxy has some really good videos about introducing puppies and kittens. Take the smells to them first by rubbing a blanket on all the litter, so that both the pups and the kittens can have something around that they will recognize as the other, then introduce them through a door, or the penn, that could work. That way they can hear each other and not feel threatened. Lastly, put them together in a controled environment, and preferrably in a place where each has a space to retreat if they're not feeling safe.
To get themselves used to each other, start by introducing them with the doors closed and let them sniff each other under the door, move up to snacks by the door, then eating meals. Finally getting door open with a screen between them eating their meals, this shows them that each other is good by that food association. Remove screen and see how eating goes. Tried it and got some results.
LITERALLY HE IS TRYING TO SOCIALIZE THEM AND THEY HAVE THESE COMMENTS LIKE "THAT IS NOT GOOD" THEY R NOT NATURAL ENEMIES HAVE U NEVER SEEN DOGS AND CATS BE BEST FRIENDS MY GOD
@Josietros-nm1nq I HAVE seen cats and dogs be friends. I have both cats and dogs. I know how to PROPERLY introduce them to one another. And how they did it in this video is not the correct way!
I had this problem with The stray kitten I took in (I think she was at least a few months?) honestly you needed to introduce the sounds and smells and let them observe & Hide. Cats are very territorial and what you unknowingly did was bring some stranger into their home, kinda like a stranger just walking into yours uninvited. It would have been smoother if they had at least a few days of some sort of experience and not just a day jammed. also would have been slightly better If there was a place to hide. honest mistake and it went fairly well! With the puppies being blind I don think its a good idea for the kittens to be introduced to at least them cause the puppies can't tell they are saying "Back off"
I agree with the comments that say continuous times of them meeting is better than just one. Keep introducing them, even if you have to have Oscar or something help you. It’s better for them to be as introduced to the puppies as you can cause it’s better socialization that can acclimate them into a home later on with dogs & the puppies w cats. Who knows, maybe someone will want to adopt a puppy and a kitten this time and it’s better for them to not feel threaten by the other. It’ll take a bit of work but they’re young and it’s genuinely the perfect time to watch them grow with each other fr.
The kittens are so freaking cute. When my foster kittens met my giant dogs I did it gradually. The kittens had a play pen that I would set up in the living room and the dogs would sniff around it. Eventually the kittens Loved the dogs.
Kittens are easily startled- it is better for them to get introduced to new things and animals now than later ❤ but I agree, it is sad when they get so defensive 😅
cats and dogs are really different when it comes to introductions. bc cats are territorial, you have to get them used to the pups scent first. then slowly introduce them one by one with treats so they have good associations with scents. then face to face.
So I think the problem was bringing the puppies inside the cats' pen.... this would have probably gone better if they were all meeting at a neutral space. I know you can handle yourself and you'll make sure nobody gets hurt but for other people watching that might wanna try this, it could get ugly. There's a lot of sharp teeth and claws and a lot of fear and stress happening so doing it on a neutral turf I feel would be crucial. And then also doing 1 on 1 like you did later. Also you (the human) should def be in there and have a toy or food so the puppies/kitties associate the new animal with something they enjoy. Introducing pets to one another should always be done very carefully and slowly, even if they're all babies.
Hi Joey, I just wanted to let you know its so great you are so informed in caring for these babies. Caring for animals can be challenging and you really are providing the best start in life for them. So impressed!
Your kittens gave me the truest meaning of the phrase “scardy cats”! Lea Michelle was awfully cute when you had her in the 1 on 1 situation. She was really trying to instigate some playtime. Then I became a bit terrified when you threatened Sakura into going in with the kittens. If you are looking for chaos and maybe bloodshed that’s what you might get. As always, your heart is so supremely generous with these special animals and. Love viewing their lives and watching them go to their forever hiomes. God bless you Joey.
It's actually funny w/ cats and dogs, some cats are born more chill and not caring about there being a dog but dog behavior tends to freak them out but after a month or so of being around they can learn how to tolerate each other as long as the home theyre in gives them the space they need
This was so cute and funny lmao the way the cats just jumped all over the place scaring themselves 😭😂 But I think you should let them meet daily so they’ll get used to it so that the cats when they’re older won’t attack dogs on the street when they have new homes cause cats go out by themselves, and it’s much easier to get cats used to dogs before they’re adopted, cause cats use longer time to get used to dogs or other animals 😊
Hi Joey, thank you for taking such good care of these animals❤ Just sharing a thought: The kittens doesn't need to stay in the small enclosure - don't know if they just in there when you are filming? They need a lot more space to run around and do their kitten behaviour. I'm sure you are doing your best 🤗
Omfg the kitties in the back! They all got their corners covered 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Joey please do this more often. Maybe then the kitties and puppies will get along well in the end. Once adoption happens, it'll be a easy transition into a new home with another animal already present.
Something I read as recommended (and tried a bit myself) when we were introducing a new kitten to our cats was to rub a sock on their face (scent glands) and then let the other cats smell it/react/get used to it (going both ways; new kitten sock -> present cats; present cats sock -> new kitten). It seemed to work fine, and I imagine it probably would work for puppies/kittens to help ease the stress of introduction.
Um... may I suggest watching a few Jackson Galaxy and Kitten Lady videos about introducing kittens and puppies to each other? You really need to go slow, have some kind of barrier between the two animals at first, and provide treats to lubricate the first greeting. Not hatin', just sayin'.
It’s takes a few days until the kittens get used to the scent of the dog !! My baby Siamese (on profile pics takes her like a day or 2 to get used to other dogs )
Those poor blind puppies! I was sooo nervous they'd get clawed! Flashbacks to when we brought home our GSD Teddy. My sister brought her cat up to baby Teddy, and Tabby swipped the poor woofy. He still has a scar on his nose And I have a scar on my face from when I introduced my cat to my new dog.
Would be best if you put the closed puppy carrier on ground next to the kittens play pen and let the kittens get curious. They need to get used to the smell of the puppies. Once they get use to their scent, then very slow introduction. Oh another thing you can do is swap their blankets to help get comfort with the scents.
Really good idea! It's the same for rats what I've seen! They just get their pens near each other, acclimate them one at a time, then let them hang oht
I think It would be a good idea to keep doing it. One on one for like 5-10 minutes. You could also put one puppy in a carrier in the kitten's place while they eat? Maybe they'd start associating the pups with good stuff.
It might help if the kittens met the puppies in a neutral space, like outside or in a living room, instead of a space they consider to be “their” territory!
I've been watching this journey for a week, and am a fan of Joey, but why would you ever do this? Putting blind puppies and kittens, who could hiss and claw(because they have very sharp claws) at the puppies. Red Flag #1. Both are scared. You put the momma cat into another room, which in turn makes the kittens nervous and afraid. Because the mother is there to keep them safe and makes sure to keep them out of harm's way. Red Flag #2. Not only a new environment; but new smells, and new senses being used(aka, to smell and see new threats and dangers). And the fact that the kittens have weapons to defend themselves. Red Flag #3. Because the puppies are blind, they can only use their other sense, yes, their other sense could be heightened because they can not see, but that doesn't mean that they are strong - because guess what, they are still puppies, just a couple of weeks old. The puppies can smell, hear, feel, and sense what is going on around them, but because the puppies are blind they will need more time to figure out what is actually going on around them. Red Flag #4. // I have raised kittens before, and I know how they react to new surroundings and other creatures that they have never met or interacted with before. Plus you put their mother away in another room. The kittens are probably scared to death. // Reading some of the comments, you say "it's cute" "they look adorable" or even "you should have them play together more often, like every day" - and yes, maybe after weeks of getting to know each other, there scents, and how they smell, etc, but that doesn't mean it's right. Joey is basically putting the puppies in harm's way. And for what? A cool video title and idea? He is even laughing while watching. Holding up the video camera, and standing up to watch from afar. It's not nice, nor is it right. Fostering animals or humans is about caring for them in ways others couldn't, you treat them as your own, and don't put them in harm's way. You do everything you can to make them feel safe, loved, and cared for. Not the opposite.
Oh dear should have done it gradually. No matter, a mesh fence between them would have been better. Also groom them so they so their smells are intermixed before they meet. There is less pressure and no fear this way. You shake when there is to much adrenaline in you body in a fight or flight mechanism in your body. Sugar helps in humans, food with animals would help too. Sakura wants you attention as she loves you. 😊

You should already have a cat box in with the kittens. As soon as they are running around, they need a cat box.
Is there a neutral space you could introduce them in so the kittens don’t feel like their territory is being invaded? That might help
That meeting was so stressful lol. Lowkey I was worried that the cats were gonna hit the dogs. Glad to see all the animals were okay!
SAME🤣😂
I literally just noticed the Amber Spyglass poster/print 😍😍😍😍 one I love that whole book series ❤️❤️❤️
Pearl and Opal look EXACTLY like my siamese kitty when she was a baby 🥺🥺🥺
The more you try to let the puppies & kitties meet more they will get used to them & itll help when they are older…that was cute lol
This was so cute and funny lmao the way the cats just jumped all over the place scaring themselves 😭😂
But I think you should let them meet daily so they’ll get used to it so that the cats when they’re older won’t attack dogs on the street when they have new homes cause cats go out by themselves, and it’s much easier to get cats used to dogs before they’re adopted, cause cats use longer time to get used to dogs or other animals 😊
Good to know I'm not the only Ole who has a very talkative kitty!
I think I enjoy the Sakura commentary the most. And everything else of course.
OMG the kittens with their tails up against the wall 😂🙀 I think Sakura would eat the puppies for breakfast tho 😳😂💓
Hi Joey, thank you for taking such good care of these animals❤
Just sharing a thought: The kittens doesn't need to stay in the small enclosure - don't know if they just in there when you are filming? They need a lot more space to run around and do their kitten behaviour.
I'm sure you are doing your best 🤗
Omfg the kitties in the back! They all got their corners covered 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Joey please do this more often. Maybe then the kitties and puppies will get along well in the end. Once adoption happens, it'll be a easy transition into a new home with another animal already present.
poor baby jack jack he did nothing wrong
Come on I wanna see her put her with the kittens
Sakura needs to meet them!
Oh my god I'm absolutely dying over the dramatics of the kittens 😂😂 joey you're a wonderful dad 💚 thank you for all this wholesome content as always x
they might not like it at first but it is good for both to have the interaction in case they get homes where there is another cat or dog
It’s good to introduce the kitties and puppies early. It teaches each to be around each other. I suggest you introduce the puppies to mama cat.
Um... may I suggest watching a few Jackson Galaxy and Kitten Lady videos about introducing kittens and puppies to each other? You really need to go slow, have some kind of barrier between the two animals at first, and provide treats to lubricate the first greeting. Not hatin', just sayin'.
Can't wait to see the house decorated for Xmas. Always thought it looked so amazing
When they scare each other it makes me laugh so hard😭😂
I just love how Peridot got out and peaked their head over, like no worries I am just exploring. Also the dogs were so much calmer.
there so adorable ❤❤❤❤
I love your kindness towards animals. You are a beautiful person for sure
God made a good one
Love how indifferent the dog is compared to the kitties! Cats are so dramatic. 🤣
Poor jack jack probably got scared lmao
Joey you need to foster more French bulldogs like there so cute and sweet ❤❤❤❤
It’s takes a few days until the kittens get used to the scent of the dog !! My baby Siamese (on profile pics takes her like a day or 2 to get used to other dogs )
Those poor blind puppies!
I was sooo nervous they'd get clawed!
Flashbacks to when we brought home our GSD Teddy. My sister brought her cat up to baby Teddy, and Tabby swipped the poor woofy. He still has a scar on his nose
And I have a scar on my face from when I introduced my cat to my new dog.
Awwee its so cute the dogs just want to play and the cats r like what the hell is this thing and scaring themselves just funny.
Maybe in an area where there is no smell so it's not like invading a territory.......
Puffy kitten zoomies!
the poor cats :(
it might have worked better if you had brought them both to a neutral place
as it stands the puppy was an invader into the kittens space
Humans don't shake when in fight or flight mode? I BEG to differ.
Cats are so dramatic i love it lol. But dogs are by far my favorite xD
