Distortion: the phenomenon that occurs when the human mind is pushed to a breaking point, and is given the choice of self-denial-- to deny your truest feelings and emotions, and self-acceptance-- to collapse inwards, and accept your basest instinct and desires. To deny yourself is to awaken your EGO; a manifestation of your resolve. To accept yourself is to Distort; to take on "the truest form of yourself" and lash out at the world around you. But the decision is never fair-- always, a voice whispers in your ear, speaking to those at their breaking point, and through honeyed words and reinforcement of their most negative of thoughts, pushes them towards distortion. Those who confront and overcome the doubts seeded by this voice remain themselves, harnessing the power of their psyche as a physically manifested weapon. Those who fail lose all they have and fall into an abyss few return from, their identity as a human lost. This is the song that plays when one such character is pushed to that crossroads, and falls into themselves, Distorting into a rampaging beast filled with nothing but hatred, sorrow, and a desire to raze all to the ground, blaming all but themselves for the event that lead them to this point, yet also despising themelves so very much.
Distortion and EGO are both about accepting yourself. The difference is: will you strife to fulfill your ambition on your own or give in and accept "a helping hand", refusing to engage with the world and leaving a monster to deal with your problems. Essentially: do you wield your EGO of does it wield you?
Distortion is where you accept your truest desires and wish to cry it out to the entire world Ego is when you accept your desires but also acknowledge the world and yourself as it is, forging onwards despite it all

Btw E.G.O reffers to Extermination of Geometrical Organism
Jesus christ ive seen so many bad explanation of EGO it actually hurts. EGO in pmoon is based on Jungian psych. In jungian psych, there is the ID, which is the desires/impulses of someone, the "self" if you will. SUPEREGO is society/internalized social norms, its the "collective consciousness". Meanwhile, EGO is the way someone expresses their ID *without* disregarding the SUPEREGO. A filter for the ID, if you will. Its a way to regulate/manage your ID. For example, some of our impulses and desires may be bad, and we ourselves may know that its bad, but we cant help but want it (because its our ID), trough the EGO, we can express those desires in a way that isnt just horrible. Excuse the example, but this is the only one i can think of right now; r*pe fetishes. Some people may have that desire in their ID that if its not regulated/controlled, would lead to horrible things. Trough the EGO, then, that person may regulate that desire, maybe by communicating it with their sexual partner, so that they would be able to satisfy that desire trough consentual plays without harming anyone. If you completely disregard the ID, then the EGO cannot exist, because there is nothing to express. On the other hand, if you disregard the SUPEREGO, then the EGO has no reason to exist/disappears into the ID, because in that case, there would be no need to "regulate/control" the ID, any expression of the self is no longer an expression of EGO, its just the ID running wild, and this can lead to horrible things. EGO in pmoon works the same way. People who deny temselves, deny their own ID, and simply conforms to the SUPEREGO, they doesnt distort, and they do not manifest EGO, they just continue to exist, being the cog in the machine of the city. Or in the extreme case, when the ID is completely purged, they become a "dough" as the ring would call it, as seen with linton, ready to be filled with a new ID. "If the world wont accept me, then i'll change, become someone who im not". If someone denies the SUPEREGO, and instead gives into their ID, they distort, letting their own desires consume them. They have no regard for the world/society. "If the world wont accept me, then ill destroy the world". To manifest EGO, someone needs to accept themselves, accept their own ID, but not let it run rampant. They need to rein it in, control and regulate it, and express it in a thoughtful way. "If the world wont accept me, then ill change society so that it will accept me and people like me". This is also expressed trough limbus gameplay, where in order to use EGO, you need to first generate resources from the sinners ID. Without the proper ID fueling them, the EGO cannot be used. Dante, then, as the manager, serves as the SUPEREGO of the team, pulling the strings behind the scenes, pooling all the sin resources so that ID's that doesnt fuel a certain EGO can still use that EGO using resources generated by other IDs. Dante as the SUPEREGO of the team is also capable of forcing an EGO to corrode without it attacking team members, because its still regulated by the SUPEREGO. Meanwhile, if an EGO corrodes on its own, it is similiar to a distortion, the sinner refuses dante's control, denying the SUPEREGO, and thus expresses themselves in a destructive way.
The embodiment of pain, sorrow, despair, that collapse all on themselves. All the emotions bottled inside, to stay a functional person.. and giving up on trying to keep them in check. What's the point anymore? What's the worth? He's so tired, hurt and tired of fighting back and struggling. Distorting occurs when a character gets to point where it's easier for them to stop fighting and let the emotions consume them - the currently dominating emotions completely taking over reason and controlling the mind. Why fight, if fighting them is neverending, and so, so painfully exhausting? In this song, the beast is howling. Noone once heard its cries, noone once came to comfort it. It's hatred, aiming inwards and outwards, it's sorrow, craving that will never be sated, aimless anger, and pain of injustice, all imploding on themselves. The beast is wailing. In its mind, the sad, echoing words, spiralling the vortex of pain over and over again; a name so precious and understanding, that one thing it always craved, it never could have, not in a million years. . . Or... could he?
Yeah you're right, this is a boss theme. Alongside the Mili song (obviously) is one of my favourite tracks of this chapter. if you have time I would ask you to check "Endless Sorrow" too, is a story background theme but imo is one of the best.
The ticking is actually directly referenced later in the story. Heathcliff is dragged back to his breaking point, and hears Dante's ticking. He takes it as a sign that time keeps passing and all he can do is wait, despite feeling like his world is crumbling around him. So, he stays and hears the end of Catherine's statement, affirming she did love him still.

You should definitely try listening to Dongbaek's battle theme as well! It's also fully instrumental and, in my opinion, the most beautiful project moon song they made
in limbus company, the player is someone named Dante, who is a clock. the ticking in this fight is supposedly a reference to how Dante is attempting to talk to Heathcliff, even though Heathcliff has distorted. This is also true for Heathcliff's "Pass On" song where we can hear a clock ticking
2:17 is Korean. It translates to “We killed Catherine….. we don’t deserve to live…..” At this point of the story, Heathcliff (the dog in the video at that point of the story) heard the perspective and story of the Heathcliff from a world fully accurate to the book Wuthering Heights, where his guilt over Cathy’s death due to him leaving caused him to start going to other worlds to kill every, single, Heathcliff so Cathy won’t suffer due to them, at least to them. After this, our Heathcliff Distorted, a phenomenon where someone goes so far into despair that someone called Carmen talks to them and tempts them to become a monster. And our Heathcliff’s reason for Distorting was due to his despair and depression at Cathy’s death, which he believes it’s his fault, because to him at that point he believes he is less then human, a monsterous beast that is more muddy and worthless dirty rag that has no rights and doesn’t deserve to speak. That beast will tear all of the world apart, shove it into its sack, drag it to the deepest corner of the Inferno and slaughter it until all is destroyed. And the ticking throughout the song is Dante trying to talk to Heathcliff to bring him back and save him from himself.
It doesn't translate to that. While the muttering is hard to translate exactly, it's definitely not that. It's too short to be that. I personally hear "모르겠어, 캐서린" (I don't know, Catherine)
That title is a bit spoilery, because its for a very importent story moment/boss battle. But if you dont mind spoilers for an explanation: This beast in the picture is indeed the boss, the 4th boss in a row actually. Basicly: Heathcliff is one of your main characters and you join him on his return to wuthering heights until something starts tempting him to "distort" into a "wild infernal hound" and now his co-workers/friends have to beat some sense into him to bring him back to normal. Still doesnt make the trauma any better ...
