  • This was a commissioned rug for the owners of Fred. A much loved pet sheep.
When I collected the fleece, they warned me.
The shearer had told them that nobody would be able to do anything with it.
I took up the gauntlet to:
show that all fleeces have the potential to be something special,
To make something special for Fred's lovely owners
And, if i'm honest, for my own ego!
Fred's fleece has been a significant part of my life for a long time. The reel is just a few snap shots from hundreds of hours of work. Most of them after felting to get it clean. It has been cold soaked in my glampsite hot tub (out of season), washed in the washing machine, and brushed out, lock by lock, many times!
I have no intention of taking on a fleece in this condition again. Mainly because it prevented me working on many other projects.
But I am very proud of what I achieved, and Fred's owners are also delighted with it and that means so much!

Thank you! It took many weeks! The felting into a rug took a day of prep and laying out the backing wool and a day of felting. But getting it clean was a nightmare.
Most rugs would only take me 2 or 3 days but this one was a challenge!
