There's just so much that goes into producing an opera. The voices, the orchestra, the technical people, the staging, and the list goes on! Thank you for sharing it all with us.
32:25 Not only a great scandale, but also a huge success for Mr Goethe in the way that the poet was only received by the european reading audience as the author of Werther and for decades seen only as the creator of this novel Werther....even when Goethe has the meeting with Napoleon in 1808 , in the view of the french emperor the german writer Goethe was noticed as the poet of this famous Werther
I saw Jonas in this role at the Met in New York. And of course he was fantastic. I just saw Jonas again, as Siegmund, at the San Carlo in Naples. Fantastic again. But he’s been singing a lot of Wagner - Walkure, Tristan, Tannhauser - and I hope he’s able to find his way back to a more lyric style. The artist playing Charlotte has very good insights into the characters. And yes, Gordon Bintner is correct, he is “handsome as hell!”
I think the interviewer was quite banal. Fancy having Jonas Kaufmann in front of you and asking such boring questions. He could have enlightened us so much into the original story. He did this, but it was not followed up.

Great insight. I’m surprised nobody mentioned that, in the novel, Charlotte does die of grief. Or at least one assumes so. 😢
