@@MeyersCTR they are travelling at 20mph? If the front of the boat dips into the water, i can easily imagine them flying off and cracking their skulls on the fronts of their boats
Cool - Thanks for posting!! A fine example of athleticism & Hi-tec boats with similar hull technology to the American cup racers without the millions of dollars required to make a winner, but just as much fun to watch!
Nope, there are ultralight recumbents, and they can't go uphill too. It's because of weight distribution: you can't effectively shift your weight forward like on a normal bicycle (i.e. by shifting your hips to the handlebars and leaning over the front) If you'll try to lean forward your back will no longer be pressed against the seat and you will not be able to push pedals... It's simple really.
You're trying to simplify this quite a bit.. But the body weight of a standard cyclist would act to turn the pedals if he lets it simply "fall" and push the pedal. The recumbent would have no such aid, and would rely entirely on the strength of the user to do the work to get up the hill. Cyclists do not simply use their weight to turn the pedals, but going up a hill it is certainly advantageous to have that weight in line with the forces going through the pedals.
They lost also due to the less efficient hydrofoil concept. It is not that simple. To say for sure, they must have the same propellers, the same hydrofoils and the same floats and preferably the same test persons, only different seating position: then we can say for sure which position is superior. For now all i can say comes from bicycles: recumbents are not good for going up the slope, but are better at flatland, when compared to conventional seating position.
I wondered the same thing. If you find anything please post it here. I'm very interested in building something similar but with an electric aspect to it in order to give it that extra kick!
why lean forward? with a recumbent you are pressing against a backrest and can generate a force greater than your body weight like leg pressing. But I see your point about weight distribution
hey see if you can list 18 and a half knots without wearing a helmet... I'll start you off ; bowline ,overhand ,noose,... well 3knots and don't forget a half hitch ;)
you know very little about " bents.....and no they do not weight any more that a standard bike.. there are super light bikes and super lite bents. Read up, inform yourself, you're making yourself look foolish.
I love the intense 90's montage guitar solo throught whole vid. Kept my heart pumpin.
Human powered over water at over 18 knots (20.71 mph). Excellent engineering.
The helmets are necessary for breaking the sound barrier
You made me laugh so hard!
Helmets actually do reduce aerodynamic drag.
I was gonna ask why they were being worn. Still wondering though.

Duck and Swan landings, bird strikes are a killer,...on the pond!!
Back in the days when Eddie Van Halen played on every sports broadcast.
I respect the 1 man boat . Where can we buy one of these hydrofoil bikes?

Fantastic video, music, complete package.
TH-cam did me right this time. Fantastic
Guy Martin needed this video
Well he tried I guess.
I've been dreaming about a pedal powered catamaran for years. Just to go fishing.
2nd place: "Curses! Foiled again!"
This is incredible, I want to build it and be the king of Lipno dam
i would czech it out
@@FirstLast-uz6eq well played sir
Impressive, wouldn't it be faster and more stable if they were pedaling from a recumbent seating position?
Yes they would, especially if they had a streamlined fairing like a recumbent bike.
i can imagine the bike rider in the front turning and saying "sorry i ate mexican food last night"
I feel like I'm 11 years late to the party.

Also, I need this soundtrack!
Why hadn't I seen this before?
Hey baby, did you know I hold a speed record? No, I'm being serious, 21mph if you can believe it 😎

who needs a bike ride when you can do this they must have been looking at what the moths doing
They show the diagram of the winners build
And exactly WHAT do they need helmets for?
If one rider is almost faster than 2, methinks that single is has the best technology. is anyone doing this now, 18 years later?

European shipbuilding students organize a Regatta every year, Just Google IWR (international waterbike Regatta)
Technology needs to be forgotten before it's reinvented.
With both up on foils, the tandem has twice the weight without twice the horsepower to weight. Plus the drag of the extra weight.
I wonder if they call out land hazards

Dude this is Japan they wear helmets everywhere except on bicycles XD
The one man boat almost won. So i gues if the two man boat was designed the same as the one man boat (recumbent bike), they can go a lot faster.
I wonder what it would be like with carbon fibre
Helmets? 🤔
why are they wearing helmets? just in case a car hits them?
a low recumbent seating position would of topped 25 -30 mph,
YEP
WE HAD A TIME WITH THAT BABY
I REMEMBER FISHING AT GAYLENS
AND CHASING THAT MILK JUG WITH THAT BIG BAS RUNNING FROM US 🤪
@adsabine1 That would be a cool design...
holy fucking shit
Damnit youtube
hello, they need helmets so their head can float
A great achievement but irrelevant to ordinary folk who all can enjoy the easy ride on a treddlecat
@johnnychunders , You have a good point,lol

dude level the audio facepalm
Helmets are for " breaking " wind
SATRIANI IS THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Save your money and lose the music.
thats because a recumbant weighs more than a standard bike, nothing to do with seating poition

The music junked another video 👎👎👎👎💩
