- Hand digging a well in Mexico the temperatures approaching 100 degrees f. 38
Entering the earth looking for fresh water seems timeless in the human quest for survival.
The well provided water at 4 meters 13 feet) . 1500 gallons of fresh water (5676 liters) which replenishes itself in a few hours.
At 2 meters a piece of a pot was uncovered. At 3 meters rocks with veins of what appears to be some metal was excavated.
Excavando un pozo en Puertecito, Oaxaca, Mexico "a mano" (sin maquinaria) con temperaturas acercando 100 grados f./38 c.
Entrando a la tierra en una búsqueda de agua dulce parece una búsqueda eterna de supervivencia.
El pozo rindió agua a los 4 metros/13 pies. 1500 galones de agua dulce (5676 litros) que se rellena a si mismo en unas pocas horas.

I'm a ground worker from the uk. I have done plenty of digging in my time but nothing compares to these guys, hats off to them, they are hard workers in very hot temperatures. I could never do what they have done. big pat on the back guys

My grandfather in West Texas dug a well right next to the kitchen by the house. That was 80 years ago. He has passed away since. Someone bought the house and they extended the kitchen around the well. It was beautiful.

Awesome video. Reminded me of how we dug a very similar water well in Paraguay. We used the same techniques. The video is eerily similar to what we encountered. Same sort of conditions in that it gets a LOT tougher the deeper you dig, and you need to use long bars to chip away at the compressed soil. Hats off to these guys! :)

I worked as a missionary in Mexico for a few years. We built a few schools and churches. We always brought our own volunteers but we needed more help so we hired on some locals. Some volunteered because of the project. These guys know how to work. They worked circles around us. They made fun of us when we asked for a cement mixer because they did it all by hand.
This method of making a well has been around for a thousand years. Probably passed down through the generations. You should see them build a house or a commercial building.

I worked along guys like these when I was a construction foreman, never heard a complaint about the weather or how hard the work was, and if something had to be done over the weekend they came overhang and all to work anyways. They didn't just leave for a week for duck season, and again for deer season, and fishing season and bow season and black powder season and then again for turkey season...

Fantastic work. They work so hard and it’s tough labor but they did a great job! Plus, the weather was so hot. These are very dedicated men who know how to work and build something of quality.

I´m proudly mexican, and i´m completly shure they are working at 50% yes they are not athletics guys, but the resistance of my people is amazing, I´m not surprised, I´m shure after finishing this big hole they can continue another equal as patiently as shown using the other 50%. Yes we need only a soda, some quesadillas or sopes, whit a lot of beens, salsa with plenty of chile. Most of my working people even just eat tortilla and chile and thats all, we are ready for very hard work, the really tough life.

El trabajo de estas personas merece respeto. yo vivo en un poblado San Agustín Yatareni en Oaxaca México. Contraté a un grupo de personas para que me excavaran un pozo, lo hicieron de 1.2 metros de diámetro y tuvieron que profundizar 24 metros para poder encontrar agua. la única herramienta eléctrica que emplearon de manera ocasional fue un rotomartillo, todo lo demás fueron herramientas manuales.

there was one in the back when was mixing the concrete. the ground surfaces bad. so more practical the 5 gallon buckets.

Because i'm Mexican, and i know many people like those guys, they dont care if they dont get paid well, they only want something for their families, few days ago i saw a guy like the ones on the video said "well its gonna cost you about 15,000 (mexican pesos)" (they were talking about a room or something like that) and the woman said, "15,000? that's too much, what about, 6,000?" and the guy said "ok, i just need something to feed my family, is ok" people is too hard with them they always want to pay little prices while those guys make all the hard work, and they have no consideration (sorry my english it's kinda bad, hope you understand

De 2 a 3 días de trabajo a mano costo $ un cartón de servesas y una carne asada . En usa un día con máquinas costo $ 10000 a 15000 dolares viva México
Si mejor pagarles 15 dlls el día a cada uno, es más barato, y si se muere uno pues no hay problema por que ni numero de seguridad social ah de tener.
This is how we in the 'richer countries' should be. We rely on the governments and councils to fix things like potholes in the road or a hedge growing over a path ( sidewalk ).

We will need an industrial size, 80 pound jack hammer (all usa city type) , the v-8 size, diesel engine air compressor, with 200 ft of hose, 12- 6in jack hammer points and chissels.
One 4 passenger 2 ton Ford, heavy duty trk, towing the cement mixer with it's generator on the back of that truck.
You need the 5 ton dump truck, towing the BobCat, on a trailer, to be used to pick up all the dirt you dig out.
Now bring out the transit :)...Yellow tape a safe area around the well, just in case, you never know. Every one put on their hard hats, their steel toe boots, gloves, the bright orange safety vests, the salt pills due to the 100 degree sun, lets seeeeee. The gogles and the sun screen.
Make sure the digging well permit and the construction of the actual well permits are at hand, just in case...You never know :)

Mock the safety, when u get a cave in your last minutes under there will be wishing you were smarter and had the proper safety
Actually Robert, there is almost ZERO % chance of a cave in. The terrain is hard enough to hold tight at that short depth. They have been digging wells for hundreds of years, you can see it for yourself, its an old fashion thing ;) its called hard workers, skilled man, who have their shit together, I tip off my hat for them!

My step-dad and I dug a well just like this (only we hit the water table at only 10 feet) 40 years ago in Northern California. It's still giving sweet water.

Interesting how deep were they digging without worrying that ground will collapse on the sides. I guess that ground is mostly clay-like, unlike regular soil.
