As with most anime not about fighting, it's hard to explain. Basically, this group of Haibane (meaning angel-like beings) live on the outskirts of a town, all surrounded by an impenetrable wall. The Haibane work in the town in exchange for food, clothing, etc. while waiting for their 'day of flight' where they fly out over the wall and leave forever. It's hard to explain more without spoilers, but it's just so beautiful. Basically, watch it and find out the rest for yourself, you'll enjoy it.
All my suicidal thoughts were gone after watching Haibane Renmei. The story made me realise how precious our lives are for the people around us. It also made me realise that it is possible to seek happiness.
Haibane Renmei, Serial Experiments Lain, and Ghost Hound, my top 3 anime all written (or co-written in the case of Haibane Renmei) by the same man, Chiaki J. Konaka.
An angel rising in the darkness song when a angel is pure but goes to the darkness no one's there and you never become pure again but you wanted this but the other half doesn't but one day you will go to the light
Were anybody as surprised as me when he found out that this song was not just instrumental, but featured originally this beautiful voice. Rather uncommon to use only the instrumental as an opening theme, but in this case it's as beautiful as the full version.
Before long the eternal silence Will melt in the blue blue sky The pale shadow of the midday moon Will soon, soon call the future When wrapped up by the earth's breath Where will the tears come back to? Even if hurt, life will Become kind and strong While offering a limitless prayer Quietly close the now, the now The timbre you hear, beyond the woods Hurry, hurry, say it in your voice
Popcorn is always going to be more popular than something subtle and emotional. And that's perfectly okay. I like mindless fun as much as the next person. I say, let the kids enjoy the brightly coloured ninjas. We know what engages us and that's all that matters.
@@BothHands1 haha no i aint no fujoshi i think you read too much into that one. Flah was trying to make an analogy with popcorn and mainstream crappy anime implying that its easily consumable and skin deep, i was just making the joke that there are other types of popcorn and that it is more deep than he thinks it is. Funny thing is that rainbow popcorn is still popcorn at the end of the day which means im just further confirming his statement
If you've read the book this was inspired by "Hardboiled wonderland and the end of the world" You'll find that the "old town" depicted in that is much worse than it is here as if you commit yourself and want to become a resident of the town the gatekeeper pulls your shadow from you and from that, many of your memories prior are taken as well as your emotions, you cannot feel fear or happiness, you just simply exist and live your life within the confines of the wall. As you shadow weakens so does your emotions.memories and when your shadow dies, everything you once were is gone, you only remember fragments of your past life. The place depicted in the anime is much better place to live... either way, it would be a pretty nice place to live i wouldn't mind living in a place like that, very peaceful
Eduardo Patiño To be honest.. i don't remember, i read a book a while ago. From what i remember i think, the price to live in the town is your shadow, the town is surrounded by a very large wall and the gatekeeper stops you from leaving, can't really remember more than that. The book doesn't explain everything, it gives you bits of information and hopes that you'll get to your own conclusion. I'll read it again eventually, you should give it a read also, its not a very long book but its still very interesting

Does anyone know the english lyrics? I am dying to know them!! Or at least someone who likes to translate lyrics plz... I love the video and the song thanx.
@001hinata001 It's not hard to sing, since most of the lyrics are slow and the melody isn't that fast most of the song, but you DO need a large vocal range for this song... So I guess if you don't have a large enough vocal range it's hard.
I love Haibane Renmei, but Naruto is a pretty good anime too even though its a little overrated in America. There were times like Lee's back story and the Rasengan training ark that were really meaningful for me. Still, Haibane Renmei and Lain are very underrated series IMO since they have some of the most power, meaningful and mature stories I have ever seen in anime.
I wanted to get into this show honestly I did. The music was great but it was too slow for me. I know it's one of the best animes out there but I just can't get into it and it makes me feel terrible T.T
the creator of haibane renmei and lain is genius
and texhnolyze
agreed
Completely separate creators. People constantly make this mistake. ABe did chatacter designs for both but only wrote for this.
Blm ✊🏿hello kitty acab
agreed but one year later (although it's not the same person they are both geniuses)

This is one of those anime that I had to watch all the episodes in a single session.
When I was forgiven by everything in this world
I understood the meaning of love
From the clouds on the day of flight
I could suddenly see the light
Bellissimo.
Hai scritto tu questa poesia??
This anime was worth a re-watch, such beauty...
this anime made me realize many things..great story
Are you still a live?
Bro
All my suicidal thoughts were gone after watching Haibane Renmei. The story made me realise how precious our lives are for the people around us. It also made me realise that it is possible to seek happiness.
he is probably in the haibane renmei world now
Masterpiece of a show.
Oh this Is GORGEOUS.....I didn't realise there was a vocal version of Free Bird.....
Just thinking about this anime brings a tear to my eye.
THE TITLE THEME HAS LYRICS?! I NEVER KNEW!
Amantis Iirc, this was actually a tribute song inspired by the main theme. But yeah - you can imagine it had lyrics.
また。。
hearing the ost is an experience, it is so beautiful...

And Yoshitoshi ABe. He also did Texhnolyze. Check it out. Nothing compares to Haibane but..
I think Haibane Renmei and Lain are the best.
The original manga of haibane renmei is from aBe, chiaki only is the anime adaptation
I really like Ghost Hound, but the ending is too happy. Especially for such a depressing show.
This is one of precious anime which animator really wanted to create

Yeah. Popcorn is pretty good =)
I'm tired of popcorn

I have never watched this anime or heard this before, until now, but it's got a beautiful tone to it. It sounds nostalgic somehow.
Nice, I've never heard it with the lyrics before, only instrumental.
einfach wunderschön~
The only thing to never leave me
Whoever the two people who downvoted this video are, they have no souls.
I haven't seen the series in some time, but I listen to the soundtrack quite a bit and I think it's "Ethereal Remains".

Holy shit, every single hair on my body stood up on end at the start of the vocals.
Ditto :D
Holy Christ, i dint know there was version with lyric
Found it at last
I think the name of the theme is Ailes Grises but I am not sure
Haibane Renmei. Ailes Grises is the French title from Dybex
How can I find more music like this?

I wonder what the words are (only knows english)
@RitoruStrawberry OMG I thought the same thing.
the link is super weird
dont click it
I'll see this shit again, because yes
