Thanks! Nice video. I just started 2 vines this year. When do I want to start pruning? Next year? Year after?

Thank you. Next year; you will want to decide on training system and prune your grape vine to that type of training system.

The best advice on pruning concord grapes, nonsense free. Thanks! My grapevine produced great last year. Brushed up with this again this year, getting ready to prune again.

Thank you for the tutorial. Can you tell me how wide the plant gets? Can I plant the grape tree 1 foot away from a fence or I need walkways on both sides?

New subscriber here :). I'm so happy I found your channel! I'm in zone 6a Ohio and have only been able to find California grape pruning tutorials until now. I'm in my 2nd year of backyard gardening and am documenting my progress on TH-cam so I'm super excited to get some tips from you. I absolutely love how informative and "hands on" your grapevine pruning video is. I'm looking forward to watching and learning more from you ;)

I cut mine back before they start getting buds or leaves, seems to work best for me in 7b zone.

Great video! What was the time of year that you did this pruning? I am also in Zone 5b in Colorado and want to try this next year :)

Hello neighbor, good to hear from other Colorado gardeners. Colorado weather is so fickle and often we do not get a full spring season. After many trials and errors, I discovered the best time to start pruning my grape vine is when the buds are ‘barely’ just starting to emerge. When it comes to Colorado's climate: unfortunately, Colorado does not have a set time for spring. Happening Gardening.

I'm new to grape growing. My yard currently have 2 Concord grapevines and I'm curious; should they be cane pruned or spur pruned? This video answered my question, but I'm asking anyway.

      Hello John,
There is nothing like home grown grapes.
Since you are growing two concord grapevines, I would test out both training methods to see which one works best for you. Cane pruning requires an annual replacement of the one-year old wood (canes) whereas cordon pruning leaves a permanent horizontal extension (cordon) of the trunk for subsequent years. The spurs located along the cordon produce the shoots that fruits.
There are pros and cons to both training methods. These pros and cons can be influence by your growing zone, climate, weather patterns and insect presence. So, I would try out both methods.
Keep me posted on how you are coming along with your training methods.

Finally someone that explains which method of pruning Concord grapes! Most of the videos discuss pruning wine grapes in a vineyard. I’ve had Concord grapes for 20 years and found out that I’ve been pruning them all wrong! I have one question though, how long can/should my cordon be? Thanks for the great info!
