    • @KTheBoi
      @KTheBoi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lqfr8813 Based on another commenter here, I have heard what might be what Pomu heard, and it's pretty great. The idea that it can't be regarded as jazz is close minded, it being avant-garde of all things wouldn't discount it out of the genre, and the genre being jazz of all things; considering the nature of the relationship between jazz music & the application of music theory in the relevant stylings. To the common listener, sure, but they're also likely the kind of person to label a metalcore band as rock or alternative; like is it completely wrong? Not entirely, just a broader, less accurate description, or often, just straight up incorrect because they're severely misinformed or uninterested.
      If your criteria for it not being jazz is because common people wouldn't recognize it as jazz, it's no different from saying a prescribed pill isn't medicine because the common shop-goer wouldn't understand what each component of it and it's interactions would result in, like no shit? What's next? My bass is actually just an electric guitar because the common person doesn't know the difference between 6 thin strings and 4 thick strings? Imagine showing this person both a classical and acoustic guitar, the common man won't know the difference therefore they're both the same? Consulting the common man on niche or specialized matters is like me asking you trivia questions about my dog, like how would you know anything about my dog if you had no knowledge or interest in it? And if you don't know anything about my dog, therefore my dog doesn't exist?
      tl;dr Avant-garde Jazz is still Jazz, being avant-garde does not disqualify it to a genre, let alone to a genre like Jazz. Rethink your mental process in regards of common knowledge and disconnect it from the perception of fact.
      Also your description of elitism is incredibly specific and inapplicable; elitism isn't specifically to judge quality, nor would it be restriction to any one category or genre.
      Also yes, I now realise I probably wrote an block of text for someone who probably doesn't even listen to jazz, or any music outside of the Top 40 hits for that matter; and that's not to say there's anything wrong with not listening to jazz or if you solely listen to pop music, the problem is talking as if you know what you're talking about when you're likely barely a enthusiast. I don't wanna be "that" guy, but if the people that made rock 'n' roll in the 50's listened to bands like Arctic Monkeys or Nirvana, it would sound nothing like rock to them. I'm not trying to say that everyone that labels itself as certain genre has to be automatically accepted as such, but the kind of jazz that she's referring to has been around for a long time (around the mid 60's I would say), so I think is kind of closed-minded to say it's "definitely not a jazz", and specially when we can't even listen to it...
      (TL;DR: don't judge so much based on so little, man)

      @@tiredbucket8107 its definitely not something an everyday music listener would consider as jazz in this age unless you have a deep passion for every kind of new type of music,
      .
      by your logic that type of "jazz" would probably more popular later in the future. you can just look for the video of that "jazz" that exactly like what described by Pomu it more like ceremonial song

      @@lqfr8813 Well, I think that I didn't say it in the best way, but what I mean is that I think that what defines a genre is not what the "everyday listener" think it is, but as a series of characteristics that are shared in common, which (and just to clarify, I'm a jazz musician, so I think that I know a thing or two) are present in both traditional jazz and more avant-garde iterations of it. For example, the instrumens used, the focus on improvisation and a similar spirit of the search of freedom (I think it is no coincidence that this more "chaotic" way of playing jazz is called, quite literally, free jazz).
      Also, it's very interesting that you mention ceremonial song, because as an afro-descending genre, jazz has some ritualistic connotations running through its veins, so maybe it isn't as far as you think it is...
      (but I think that in this particular case it's probably for the "shock value", because aside from the chanting, she described it as "banging pots" and "screaming", which to me sounds like something from noise jazz musicians such as John Zorn or, as I mentioned in my other comment, Peter Brotzmann)
      Side note: Damn, i didn't thought I would end up having this kind of convo at a pomu clip's comment section. Sasuga PP.
