This was so touching, I grew up with a lot of lack but a lot of love. My dad always told us to be thankful and grateful all year long, having good health, a loving family and a roof over your head was a blessing - which it truly is. Tragically he passed away some years ago on Christmas but I never forgot about being thankful and grateful. I too go thru and give to those in need. Recently I was on the receiving end because I lost my home but I live in an apartment now and have a place for my children to come home from college for the holiday break. This was an excellent video. Take care!
I’m so touched by your story thank you for sharing. Your dad’s message is so wise those are absolutely what we need beyond the “four walls”. They’ll boost quality of life no matter the kind of house we live in, car we drive, etc. What a blessing for you to be able to perpetuate your dad’s message to your children. Kids need to hear this message for sure!! Blessings to you and yours 💕💪
I became a minimalist this way. I started in my kitchen. One drawer and one cabinet at a time. Then one closet at a time. This took me several weeks and the Veterans were picking up at my door for weeks. Now my home looks so calm and simple. I just de cluttered my last stash. My coats. I love them and had about two dozen. My church was doing a coat drive for homeless and I finally parted with most of my beloved coats. It was hard but I did it.
It's wonderful that you care and share! I sit on the board of an agency that helps to lift people out of poverty. The gifts of food and cash that are donated all year round help families more than we know. There is a Little Library in our front yard and I have left a note there for anyone who is food insufficient or just hungry to come to the door and we'll see how we might help them fill a need. God bless you, dear Frugal Minimalist. You, yourself are a gift.
Thank YOU Connie for being so actively involved in reaching those who need help. Your generosity with your heart, time and efforts are amazing. Many blessings to you and yours!! 🙏💕
Connie Baum this is a great idea! Thank you for sharing and I will also put a note out to my community. Wow, I’m so inspired and appreciate this information.
Best video! Such a great antidote to the relentless marketing surrounding Christmas! Thank you for your gentle delivery. It's hard to say much of what you did without sounding preachy, but your humble heart is contagious.
I just love your heart. I too donate a lot during the year, and volunteer at st. Vincent De Paul to feed the homeless. I did operation shoe box this year. I donated all my daughters and my extra jackets we don't use and were too just taking up space to coats for kids. Thank you for your continuous AMAZING content. Your a great woman. I'm glad to hear your also a thrifter. Our land fills!!!
You’re so giving, Susan! 😍 I’m new to operation shoe box but I see those all over TH-cam. I love that all you volunteer and donate extras! So many wins 🙌. Blessings to you and yours 🤗🙏💜
I always enjoy your videos but this one really touched my heart. We went through a hard time once too & it stays with you & it makes minimalism so much easier when you’re able to have more but choose not to. Great video!
I just did a declutter also, I used Greendrop for my donations because they do a pick up. And I also gave a friend who is a social worker a bunch of clothing to put in the bin that they have at her office for the homeless. Mostly sweaters with a hole or snags and a few well worn jackets and shoes. I know the donation stores won't take these items but they will help someone in need still. Even items that are worn out can still be used.
Excellent video Wendy! I need to continue to declutter too. My lifestyle has changed so much over the past 5 years that it's a necessity and passing still good items on to someone else who needs it, feels great. Win win! I agree, Marie Kondo's method is way too time consuming and over whelming for me. I want to give up before I even get started. A little at a time is my way of choice. Thanks for taking us along on your declutter journey. It was very relaxing 😊
I’ll bet Ellen! 🙌 It makes it easier to let go of the items when we know others can use them. I hear you on wanting to give up before you start! It’s a lot to take in all at once. 😅
Thank you for another great video. We are all very much blessed. And I agree...if we all donate a little, every single one of us, there will be many that can gratefully benefit from it. I remember the one game my father ever bought us was Monopoly. But when we were a lot younger the only game we owned was the original fishing game and the reason we had it was because Santa Clause was to be there and we had to stand in a long line of children and it was only one present per family. There were 3 of us. When we opened it, we were just so excited and had so much fun!😌 There were a few tough years, but we always made the best of it. We even learned to not ask for anything because we knew our circumstances. It also was something we just never brought up. Thank you again for the reminder. God bless....and have an Happy Thanksgiving🦃
Thank you so much for sharing your story! Sounds like those games were well loved. We don’t need much to have a great time do we? 💪. Blessings to you and yours and Happy Thanksgiving!
Love that you donate your items. I feel so much better when I’m giving. I feel very uncomfortable when it’s me that is receiving anything. Your son is turning out to be such a fine young man and that is a testament to his parents ❣️
I understand where you’re coming from, Kimmarie! I’m usually slow to ask for anything but am quick to offer! Thank you for your kind words. He’s a keeper for sure. I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving Kimmarie❣️
I recently decluttered my pantry. Found a couple expired products I totally forgot we had. My pantry is simplified now and I only have the things I use. Great video xx
All the stuff I donate is to a thrift store that helps a local church and their patrons...that makes me super happy ..your videos are so calming and wonderful!!
@@TheFrugalMinimalist There is a few videos on my channel that explains it all ... I still have Budgeting A Decade to Freedom but on a different channel now. So you might see me reply with that one too!! :)
Lol Amanda, we tend to have large muscular calves. Most boots and skinny jeans will fit me everywhere other than the calves. It’s pretty funny now that I type this out 🤣
I agree that the Holidays are the perfect time to declutter and donate to others! Knowing that we can help to make someone's Holiday a little brighter makes it that much easier to donate something maybe we have been having a hard time letting go of but don't need. I love that you son came up with things to donate too! He is clearly learning to have a giving heart from the examples he is getting at home! This was a great video at the perfect time of year, Wendy! Thanks for doing it and I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving! 😊🦃
Great video as always Wendy! When my son was young I would explain that he could be Santa to other children that have less by giving away his good condition toys he no longer played with. Older towels and bedding that might not be quality enough to donate to people can often be donated to animal shelters also. Full watch, big like my sweet friend! \🥰/
We had been blessed with our oldest when we received hand me down clothes. Truly a blessing. Then those clothes went through our next two kids. Our first 3 are girls and fourth/final is a boy. We kept everything we could, but found a family that needed the clothes and items and passed it on to them.
These are great tips, but the reason I'm comment is to say that you have such a great voice for this! It's clear, but relaxing and I really like your energy combined with calm. It doesn't make me anxious, like some super ZIPPY PEPPY voices can do on TH-cam.
We are moving into a new house and your vlog has given me the incentive to declutter even Further than I have been , you make it seem do-able--and it is ! Thank you for encouraging everyone --and me !
Thank you for the video. I tidy’d / decluttered my closet today. Felt so good and it looks great! When I am at the dentist I decline the bag with the stuff and ask for two toothbrushes. I get a weird reaction each time, but that is ok. I only want the toothbrushes anyway.
Hi! I'm really glad I found your channel! Really love your content. Your videos make me want to revisit and reexamine what I might have missed. Have a wonderful day!😍
💜🦄 hi Wendy, thank you for making such a positive and encouraging video 🥰 🤗❤ You and your family have the nicest kind of Christmas tree...a Charlie Brown Christmas tree! 🎄⭐ Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family 🍁🍂⚘🍡🍄🍒🖼 Love, Tinkerbell 🧚♀️
Great video with a great message ! I readied 4 boxes of books, clothes, unneeded items and a tv i haven't used in over 2 years to take to Goodwill. This will be my 4th haul this year. I'm sure i can find more items in the closet!,
Thanks for sharing your methods and the why behind it for you. Love your perspective on your ‘why’ and appreciate these videos very much. Early Happy Thanksgiving, All!
Girl I am struggling ... I made a video but I felt uncomfortable and ashamed sharing , on top of that I don't have mobility so is so hard to take every thing out like Marie Kondo, I made a mistake with my craft room and still like an explosion ! I am going to record some thing this week , and hopefully people will not be mean... Please, come over and give your support!
We like the way you emphasize helping others by donating in any way possible.
Every little bit helps and adds up for sure! 😃

I like that you write it down and keep it bite sized and consistent 😃. Daily wins!

Alright! 🙌 Yes they can be used! I believe thrift stores that do take them will sell them to be recycled into insulation.

🙌 Love a simplified pantry, Mariela! This one needs an upkeep for sure
Great video! Grew up with donated clothes and toys, too. Now I try to give where I can, although we do not have a lot of money.

Wendy, you have a new fan. I’ve watched quite a few of your videos after stumbling on them. Very informative & interesting, thank you!

Nice 👍
💜 thanks again for the motivation Wendy!
🙏💜 Amy you’re very welcome and thank you for being here with me 💕
The Frugal Minimalist you are welcome! I look forward to your videos every week.
This is inspiring.
It is. But at the same time it’s also depressing that a supposedly first world country would have such a tremendous need for clothing & food drives.
