I bought a 2007 330i from these guys a couple of years ago. A couple of unforeseen issues in the first month but they couldn’t do enough to look after me. Had the car for a year with no issues before getting a company car. Great company and brilliant staff
Very interesting. As a consumer you don't realise all of the issues, when he said he'd make the same on a £20k car as a £10k car, may as well have two 10k, shows that just because they sell higher end cars doesn't mean more profit and the margins are tight. Yours and others vids show me that I wouldn't want to be a car dealer! Keep videos coming!
Interesting how things have changed. When I was in the trade, we fully prepped a car before it was listed. That way it showed its accurate stand in cost. Now they dont prep the car until they have a buyer for it. It hits the margin, but they can always trade it on without spending anything on the car, if it does not sell.
You guys are so brave dealing with older high mileage cars. I thnk i will stick to my cars up to 6 years old and 50k easy prep and less headache for me and my customers
I worked with Jamie and Duncan at Citroen in Derby nearly 20 years ago. We lived on Red Bull and cigarretes, always hyped and looking for the next sale.
Great video, get the feeling that this guy would benefit from a business mentor or some high level expertise to deal with his pain point of having to turn them around so quick to recoup the outlay. Slow is fast, fast is slow! All credit to him for building a fab set up.
Pleased to see Jamie doing well once again, nice motors in a great location at Stenson, was great to bump into Howie as well the other week over at the bubble 👍
It’s not for me this expanding game. Since Covid I’ve gone the other way and downsized everything from 50+ cars to 30 maximum. Less agro, smaller tax bills more home time with the family!
The one and only Jamie Caple, purchased a car (ex Derby footballers RRS) from him many many years ago (15 ish years), reminded me then as the David Brent of car sales... Driving around in Hummers, sponsoring Boxing and generally loving life. Ups and Downs will occur with any business and glad he is doing well.
Decent garage 👌🏼 I brought a c class coupe of them for a very decent price . They couldn't do enough for me . Shame it got smashed into 6 months later why I was parked up , saving 5 pounds parking and got my car wrote off 😂 lesson learnt, ilI never park in a terrace street again.
I had no idea this place existed. I live a mile away in findern and knew nothing about it . Drive past the marina most days and seen no advertising.. I must go round with my eyes shut 😂
I live in derby, i bought a jaguar xe off them about 2 years ago, very nice pople to deal with, gave me a good price for my part ex , just a very good place to buy a car from , 😁👍
Lucky he has his parents working with him, otherwise he wouldn't get a break from the job. Imagine having to guarantee 24 wages and running costs before you see a profit every week
Very interesting however he has massive overheads to cover every week regarding staff and investment. I guess he thrives on this but it can b very risky with so much commitment. Best car I seen on the lot was the skoda yeti,a car I wouldn't buy.
@shifting metal. Never give up, don’t stop and don’t try to copy others. Borrow a bit here and there and make it your own. Learn from your competition (I do, and have) and now run a successful jewellery business not far from you. Forty years later……….
Reckon you should move into the old car base site down Brent. drove past it today looks like they opening the petrol station again and put lick of paint around it be perfect for you guys
@@ShiftingMetal Buy the building where you work from and get rid of forever rent hassles. Not easy I know but 25% down and you should be cashflow positive from day one.
Not sure if I understand the " we need to prep the cars better" in other words we'll let the customer be our quality control . Get that older cars will go wrong but I'm not purchasing with the knowledge I'll have the inconvenience of returning it in 30 days
No, you don't understand. He means prepping them before they are listed for sale vs prepping them once they've taken a deposit. The end result is the same but it would be cheaper and more convenient to prep them before they are ever available to sell.
A couple of things......yes cars that are 10k now were 6.5k cars pre lockdown. The cars are the same quality it's just everyone has got bastard greedy. And just to let Jamie know.....i got an 09 plate Fiesta last week for my daughter to learn in for 500 quid......well actually 498.20 after i took the seats out for a deep clean. I'll try and sell the piece of shit for 1500 after she has ragged the life out of it...just to join the other greedy feckers. 500 pound cars are there if you go find them, then again i live on a different planet to this guy he is flying!
A 500 pound car once a dealer has had to prepare it warranty it will have to retail at 1500 pounds then the person buying it will want it to be absolutely perfect like new and won’t understand why the dealer won’t warranty something on a car that’s sold out for 1500 pound also most 500 pound cars are sheds
Maybe if you spent less time cranking it you wouldn’t be on TH-cam commenting on my video and concentrating on actually doing something yourself 🤷♂️ Just a thought
Hmm. Ok for buying a runabout but wouldn't buy anything special from them. Profit above anything and not enough knowledge about the pricey stuff. Would rather buy from a specialist.

Bought my daughter’s first car from Jamie 7 years ago. Great little car. Good to see how he’s grown the business since then. 👍
Very interesting.

Got a Z4 from this chap when he had 20 cars years ago good to hear gone strength to strength. Top bloke
This is better than your normal mid week videos Joe
Thanks, I’ll take that as a compliment 😅

The stress levels of that guy with 250 to. 300 cars must be crazy
Really interesting watch, not sure I’d want the stress of all that, great insight into the larger car dealer trade.
Superb video to watch whilst doing the dishes. Looks like he's been doing this a very long time - what a fantastic setup but all consuming.
What a great location ,another interesting video 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Slick operation. Nice one mate
WOW thats amazing, what a great video Joe really interesting. 10 years time this could be you

The owner seems like a great guy. But I do worry about his stress levels, I noticed he finds it really hard to sit still.

Omw I just sensed major stress having an operation on that scale, fare credit to his achievements
Wow them stress levels 😂😂😂

Same here
Ilkeston for the last 36 years😊
I brought a car from them in 2017 amazing service
Fascinating 😮

Interestingly, when listing his employees, the mechanics were last in the pecking order.
They sold an F Type for me a few years back, everything was totally smooth and they did everything they promised
Very Interesting , great Video ....
They look a top notch outfit. Cannot imagine how stressful looking after that amount of cars is though.
A great insight as to run a successful business thanks for sharing 😏🚙👊
Just hope he learned his lesson from Caralot that ended up with the recievers
Wow interesting well done
The VW is an Arteon, same thing underneath, just looks nicer but all the running gear is the same.
Interesting video 👍
Did you not just make this video 3 months ago ?
So many people bringing cars these days. I bought mine.
The biggest issue is customers expsctationd they expect a used car to be, as new. It's a, difficult business it's to hear another dealers perspective
So does Berrow motors not do any retail work anymore ?
That must of been a big decision?
No we don't. Yes it was a tough decision but it was the best one I've ever made!
One word. "Caralot"
why are none of the cars priced signed up ??
Did you go to Milton Keynes College?
I didn't, not sure about Jamie!
Top Man 😊
Lucky he has his parents working with him, otherwise he wouldn't get a break from the job. Imagine having to guarantee 24 wages and running costs before you see a profit every week
Bang on correct. You must be self employed like some of us. Employees are costly, parents want to see you thrive.
A lot of cars with private plates for sale...
Very interesting however he has massive overheads to cover every week regarding staff and investment. I guess he thrives on this but it can b very risky with so much commitment. Best car I seen on the lot was the skoda yeti,a car I wouldn't buy.
👍🏻👌🏻
Should’ve asked him how he manages the stress of motor trading…
👌👌
Takes minerals to run a big ship .

I should do this in new key😂

Agreed loads of sub 750 decent cars

Who TF is "Ben"?
Ben is a charity support service for those who work or have worked in the Automotive industry.
Great comment the average used car on sale today is 33k……..let that sink in……10k car is still low end
yeah but for many people 10 grand is still a lot of money.
Borderline obsessive with work? I think not. I image it takes a lot of cranking to get you started.

Still say the fat driver at the quay is the best 👌

I’m sure that’s fine with them
