  • DIY project for installing iron/metal garden edging. Similar to the prefab products on the market, but a lot more affordable. Great alternative to timber and lets you create sweeping curves and tight bends. Relatively easy to do yourself and gives a great finish.
Tools and materials required are at 1:03. The product used in this video is Corten steel which is designed to rust in a controlled way over time (you often see it used on the façade of buildings).
You could do this even cheaper by using mild steel but would need to use slightly thicker plate to get longevity. All steel can usually be purchased and cut at your local metal merchant. In my area a whole plate of Corten plus 11 cuts cost me $300 and gave me enough for 30+ metres of edging with some leftover.
Welder NOT required although I have found it helps.
    Give it a go!

nice video. Rather than drilling holes and using scrap to join the edges, it might be easier to cut two pieces of edging about 50 mm long and weld on both sides of one end of the edging. It would create a slot that the next piece of edging could slide into. Just a thought.

Looks good, you gotta watch that artificial grass getting into your garden beds!

Finally, this is what I need. I cant stand the flimsy thin steel garden edges.
