Needs a thorough cleaning initially from the factory. There’s usually a high viscosity grease to prohibit corrosion used during assembly. Run a couple of boxes of high velocity shells through it and you should be able to cycle lighter loads. As far as the loading issue, I got nothing
Up here in Michigan, we have a ton of black squirrels. 20 years ago they were way less common, but now I’d say we have a pretty even mix of grey, fox, and black squirrels.
In my experience every new gun I've bought has been treated with a sort of anti-rust grease to preserve it, I always disassemble it and thoroughly clean all of the moving parts inside the action of the shotgun then re-lubricate everything, it seems to solve the issue of not cycling after shots.
Interesting to see it's having a cycling issue. When I bought my Affinity I was apprehensive that it might be rubbish, but it's been completely reliable right from the off. It's often said that a semi auto should be settled in with a box or two of heavy loads, however the majority of shooting that mine has done has been clay shooting with load weights ranging between 21-28g. After cleaning away all the shipping oil, I lubricated all the moving parts with high molybdenum disulphide content paste to reduce metal-metal friction.

Franchi makes great shotguns. I've had my Affinity for close to 10 years and it's killed lots of deer, turkeys, doves, and ducks. You need to clean a new gun when you get it. There's packing grease that needs to be removed before you start shooting. No break in needed, just a good cleaning. Guarantee you'll see an improvement after that.
My dad bought my sister a 20 gauge franchi and it’s the same issue as far as loading the shells. It’s definitely different from a Remington or a mossberg but it’s a pretty good gun. She uses it for turkeys and ducks. The only problem she has is catching her thumb when loading the tube.
Where I grew up in Louisiana there was a neck of woods with black squirrels. Most squirrels were fox and cat (gray). We were raised to never shoot into a squirrel's nest.
It's inertia operated so it should handle any shell you put in it. That's one of the purported advantages of inertia guns. Gas operated guns are sensitive to pressures at the gas port for reliable operation, inertia guns are not. As long as there is recoil and they are held firmly into your shoulder (can't tell if you were doing that or not) they should work fine. I would say to give it a disassembly and thorough cleaning, get all the factory grease gunk out of there, lubricate it as recommended by the manual and try it again.
hey kendall!! i have a franchi affinity 3 20 gauge. Brand new it was doing the same thing yours is, i thought about selling it, but didn’t. And after about a week of shooting it a little everyday and cycling bullets through it is my favorite gun i have ever shot.

Franchi is an inertia driven shotgun so they typically work much better with hotter rounds. I'd start by breaking the gun down completely and giving it a deep clean and then applying fresh lube. Then run a few boxes of 3" magnum shells through it and clean/lube again and that should do the trick. Also, I've hunted just about everything that walks, crawls, or flies the states of Indiana and Kentucky with a 20 gauge. I've had a few 12 gauges over the years but have since sold them. There's just something about about the lightweight and nimble 20 gauge that I have absolutely fallen in love with!
Haven’t made it all the way through the video yet, you may address this here in a few. My recommendation is to run some heavier 3” loads through it (50-100) and then try the lighter 2 3/4 skeet loads. Stoeger recommends 1-200 heavy loads through theirs before shooting lighter stuff for cycling purposes.

I'd say break it in with heavier loads. A lot of semi-auto shotguns have this issue out of the box. The funny thing is that I only had to break in my expensive shotguns. Once that was done, they were smooth as butter.

You're gonna want to run faster, heavier loads for sure. I work at a gun store. That happens with anything that is recoil operated. Especially shotguns. The springs are set up to run heavy loads for distance. Therefore, the lower pressure loads don't run great until you break in the springs.
Someone probably already said this but the gun is inertia driven and can be quirky with light loads especially since it’s waterfowl version. If you were using low brass light loads, I bet it will cycle all high brass 2 3/4 ammo 1oz loads as well as all 3” loads. Good luck with it, I’m sure it frustrating paying top dollar for a gun to not function everything.
In northern and central IL, we see more black squirrels than we do grey/brown. Especially in our local neighborhoods, it's EASILY a 5-1 ratio. They're everywhere.
I bought the previous generation Franchi Affinity 12 gauge (the first left hand that came into my local Cabela’s) back in 2015. It took my Dad and I quite while to get my gun together. The instructions suck. But after that I have not had any issues. I can shoot low brass 7.5 or 8s up to the hottest 3 in loads. I would definitely get that black squirrel 🐿 mounted even if it cost $300. You only pay half down at the time of dropping it off and the rest at pickup. If you had a coyote or bobcat to mount with it, that would be even cooler 😎
Have the same gun you have to break that gun with high brass shells it will not cycle low brass very well until it’s broke in. Another tip is to leave bolt back over night it helps the break in cycle
I have a Benelli super black Eagle. Being that it’s an inertia driven like your shotgun. It will not cycle low recoil ammo or if it’s not being held tight to your shoulder.

Dude, I am a chukar hunter from Nevada. Franchi we always called it the Italian single shot.🤣🤣😂
I live up here in Eastern Canada, and I've never personally seen one. Super cool KG
You're gonna want to run faster, heavier loads for sure. I work at a gun store. That happens with anything that is recoil operated. Especially shotguns. The springs are set up to run heavy loads for distance. Therefore, the lower pressure loads don't run great until you break in the springs.
i love when ethans in the vids 😂
That squirrel had a gorgeous silky coat
This is my new favorite youtuber.
I’d get that black squirrel mounted awesome video as always 👍🏼👍🏼
You are the most funniest person I have ever seen 🦌😁🦌
Definitely should get that Black Squirrel mounted.
Have the same gun you have to break that gun with high brass shells it will not cycle low brass very well until it’s broke in. Another tip is to leave bolt back over night it helps the break in cycle
Beautiful shotgun… love the camo design with the black barrel… 20 gaugeeeee nice
who else thought when Ethan hit the tree a squirrel came down but it was just wood🤣😂😂😂😂🤣🤣😆😄
I died when you filmed that clip around all that garbage in the back ground
First time I've seen a black squirrel too that's crazy nice one kg!
I have a Benelli super black Eagle. Being that it’s an inertia driven like your shotgun. It will not cycle low recoil ammo or if it’s not being held tight to your shoulder.
man that was a banger for sure epic video i love your squirrel hunting videos
KG: the squirrel are not going to make much sounds because the leaves are wet. Also KG: I knew I heard him move!
Yoo kendall you should duck hunt one day I promise it’s hella fun
