I purchased a 22 Tracer 9 GT after much research. On my shortlist was the Suzuki GSX1000 GT, Kawasaki Sx 1000, BMW F 900 XR and the Triumph 900 Tiger Rally Pro. I'll also throw in the HD Pan America. All of which are great motorcycles and are unique in their own way. I wanted something sporty, dependable, set up for touring along with a premium feel. As much as I liked the Suzuki and Kawasaki the insurance costs were sky high . I loved the Suzuki and for the price, it was a solid value. Unfortunately I couldn't justify paying almost 60% higher for insurance. The BMW F900 XR is a nice bike , my previous experience with BMW reliability and parts was concerning. I owned a 2020 BMW F 900 XR , after 3000 miles of ownership the water pump failed . The undercarriage of the frame was sprayed with coolant. The dealership picked up the BMW right away, but had to wait almost 2 months for parts to come from Germany. The Pan America is a motorcycle that I was definitely interested in, but there are so many mixed reviews that I decided against purchasing. I do have to say HD has made constant upgrades to the PAN America each year to improve the overall reliability. The downside was I just couldn't get over HD charging $2600 for freight and dealer fees on top of the price.of a PA. Lastly was the Tiger 900 RP. I am a big fan of Triumph. The Tiger RP is a great adventure motorcycle. I was going back and forth between the Tracer and the Tiger. Realistically I'm not going to be doing any significant off roading. I just felt the specs of the Tracer and all the things that come standard with it, I couldn't pass it up. The engine is amazing, the automatic suspension, heated grips, cruise control, side bags, adjustable foot pegs , seat and handlebars and yes that CP3 engine. Oh and lets throw in the quick shifter combine with Yamaha quality you can't beat it. There are a couple of things that I don't like . I know there is a lot of criticism over the 2 screen TFT display, that is not a big deal for me. The one issue that could be better is the windscreen. There is some buffeting, and I will probably swap the screen out for an aftermarket one. But all in all, the Tracer is a solid motorcycle that looks amazing and performs unbelievable.
Excellent review. In sum, a great engine, linear throttle response, well designed chassis, ergonomics I prefer, Yamaha reliability, no pretense of off road capability and at a price, (with comparable equipment) that put it ahead of Triumph's 900, BMW's 900, Ducati's 950, are some of the reasons I purchased this bike back in the summer. The TFT isn't perfect, yet gives me the info I need at a glance. The stock seat gives me 2-3 hours before numb bum sets in (which is why I'm getting a Russell Day Long). If you are considering this bike you need to know that it has 4,000 mile service intervals. That said, with 42 years of riding behind me I can say that this Yamaha is one of my favorite rides.

The displays didn't even look like they were on. Also, they look like eyes and a nose looking back at you. Give me a single bright 6" TFT and drop the "gimmicky" dual screens. Engine, suspension and features are great.
This is the biggest drawback to some of the recent Yamaha's. They are GREAT bikes, but not sure what Yamaha is thinking with their displays. This bike gets a wierd split display that's sorta tiny and hard to read. The MT-09 gets a normal TFT, but its so damn small. It's a shame because it really detracts from some great new bikes.
I've had mine for a few months now. The screens are perfectly clear readable in bright sunlight. More importantly, they dont dazzle you at night. They dont look bright on video because there is a deep double layered polarised plastic on it. That said, the second screen is a bad implementation, not that useful, just more info. If it had the second screen as a bluetooth navigation screen, it would be perfect.
How about a night ride? I'm always curious about how well the lighting works. Re: TFT - one reviewer said that the left screen is cluttered while the right screen has unused space, and apparently it's not customizable enough to deal with this. They also said that if you do move some graphics to the right screen they remain in the left one. Two screens is unnecessarily complicate, IMO.
