If you read the book Clockwork Angels, co-written by Rush drummer/lyricist Neil Peart and science fiction author Kevin J Anderson, based on the album's concept, you'll understand who The Wreckers are and the important message here that what may appear as a miracle at first glance can turn out to be something entirely different. Another song that carries an important message is Closer To The Heart from their 1977 album A Farewell To Kings, whose lyrics speak of how we can all play a part in making the world a better place but it must start with those in charge. Have a wonderful evening! 🎤 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐
This was off of Clockwork Angels which was their first full concept album. Neil cowrote a sci-fi book that tell the story of the album. The story line I get is an old wooden cargo ship that hits the breakers in a storm. All the goods float to the shore. The people on the shore form a human chain to retrive the goods and not the people that are on the ship. Cheers
The album’s story takes place in a “SteamPunk” world so we see what looks like crazy old technology. The part you missed in your comment is that the people on shore actually trick ships into crashing onto their shore with a fake lighthouse so they can then steal the cargo. (And not save the crew, as you said. 😀)
The song is about groups of people called the wreckers who back in the 19th century would work the English coastline during storms. They would light lamps in hopes that floundering ships would think the lights were leading them to safe harbour when in fact they were being lead to the rocks only to get smashed against them then the wreckers would swarm the wreckage stealing what cargo they could.
Good reaction the chorus at face value can apply to different interpretations one can be said of politics lol try freeze by rush off vapor trails when u get a chance thanks well wishes
It is more about....when you are in distress, people will act like they are helping you, but are trying to make you crash, so they can scavange your belongings for themselves.

This is an incredibly underrated song. One of their best later songs.
Thank you for reacting to it.
Wow a song you actually rate billy? wonders never cease
@@rimskykorsakov2892 i’m here to educate. I regret you struggle so much with that education.
@@thatsnice99 an opinion is not education ...that's something you fail to grasp.
@@rimskykorsakov2892 i proved it with examples. You ran on terror when you were asked to pinpoint parts of a song that makes it good.
@@thatsnice99 Still deluded as ever I see billy...hilarious
