Wonderful segment...I've homeschooled my 4 kids for the past 14 years. The best advice I can give, is your giving your kids an AMAZING foundation thru God's word. So when they do taste of the world, it's a lot easier to return to the foundation youv'e given them. Choosing a walk with Christ still has to be their choice. We are called to train them up, but they have to come to those crossroads and choose to surrender their lives to Jesus for themselves. It's not about religion. Praise God he called my husband and I to this path!! Although very hard at times, God's grace is sufficient!! Many blessings to all those who homeschool, we're raising warriors for Christ!!
As a guy who was homeschooled k-12, I can speak to the superior quality of homeschooling. Here are a few highlights and perks. 1) Easy schedule. I got up when I was ready, had breakfast and was working on my schoolwork by 8-8:30 and done by 12:00, later if I got stuck on a crazy math problem. Done by noon meant that I had the rest of the day to run off energy with my brother in this great place called "the outdoors." It also meant we could get together with friends who were also homeschooling. 2) Flexible schedule. If we were going on vacation we would do one of the following. Bring our schoolwork with us or do extra work before or after the vacation. We still got all our schoolwork done for the year, just in less days. 3) Socialization. we got to see our friends every Sunday and Wednesday at church and many of them at the weekly homeschool/ 4H gatherings every week. Gatherings like soccer, field trips to the USS Constitution or Plymouth Plantation or just to hang out. 4) Tailored education. By high school, my mother let me choose the subjects that I was more interested in. For example., I was never good at complicated math and saw no use in learning it if I was not going to use it on a daily basis, so I instead learned valuable math, like balancing a checkbook and a bank account. This has served me far more in my chosen profession as a maple farmer than any 19 step math equation ever could. All in all is was a great experience and would highly recommend that everyone would do the same for their kids. Some great tools for you are The good and the Beautiful and Answers.tv.
That "complicated math" was actually used when learning to balance a checkbook. People dont realize we use algebra daily without knowing it. The letters throw them off. My step mom didnt understand my algebra work but she did our family budget monthly. I homeschool my kids. Im scared of PS today. And cant afford private christian schools. My kids learn basics and we go in depth as they want to learn. I wanted to homeschool myself but my parents didnt let me.
It's very encouraging you're in for the long term. I've been homecoming for 24 years now, 7 graduated, and 5 more still schooling. It does get weary sometimes, but the outcomes are the reward. Praise be to God.
Can't thank you enough for this segment!!! We decided to pull our daughter almost 2 years ago from public school after observing/ and substituting at her school (she was also diagnosed with ADHD). We prayed over it, researched into the best Homeschooling Co-op and teaching methods and found the best one to fit her!!! She is THRIVING NOW!!
Yes! Sleep for teenagers! It was so awful getting up. The one hour rush of the mornings with littles is so stressful, even with the gentlest of mornings, you often end up stuffing someone in a carseat screeching. It was dreadful. The school car lines are stressful. The constant "theme days" are hard to keep up with. Seems like schools are always asking for more volunteers and involvement.
And the school supply list! I bought supplies for friends kids and they needed 5+ of everything for the students whose parents couldnt afford it. I bought supplies when I began this journey 2 yrs ago, and dont need more unless we use it all. I do get deals during school season, but i dont buy a million sets unless im donating to a school drive. My kids get their supplies back as well😂.
Our eyes were opened during the covid pandemic. We never send the kids to public school. They went from private preschool to home. ITS HARD! But I’m just starting. We are still figuring out what works for us. But sending my kids away isn’t an option so we have to make it work. Also the older two are around the younger ones and they LOVE being with each other. It’s very sweet that they’ll grow up with each other.
I’m actually having to cut back on social stuff because we spend too much time driving and socializing. But we have met AMAZING families and we all get along and it’s a dream really.
I so needed to hear this as a mum that pulled out my son who was a slow learner. I have only just started this I struggled a bit at the beginning but I think it was the best decision I made for my child. Thanks for this topic
❤chances are, your son isnt slow. His learning style just isnt the same as the schools system. They teach one way and one way only. So "slower" students are left behind or given special curriculum. A friend in Australia was told her daughter was slow. Homeschooling shes excelled. Esp in math. I have ADHD and got bored in school. My son is similar to me. Theyd claim he needs meds bc he wont behave so I chose to keep him.home for that reason. Idk how old yours is, but they dont need 8 hrs of instruction at all. Toddlers need 15 to 30 minutes daily of instruction. I teach with foundations first. Reading, recognizing letters, sounds, numbers etc. My son is ahead in math but on par in reading. So it helps to gauge first where they are. They have tests as well. Mastering skills is all you need to do. Self paced helps build confidence. Youre doing great momma. You got this. Your genius just hasnt discovered his potential yet ❤
We take our 5 year olds and send them to strangers for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week, 9 months of the year, for 13 years and homeschoolers are the weird ones? No. I would say the "normal" way is what's really weird.
PS is weird. Especially today with the nonbino teachers and antiracism rhetoric that makes racist kids.... I HATED PS system. I wanted to be homeschooled. Now i homeschool.
Thank you for supporting homeschooling, however, it’s unfair to paint hybrid homeschooling or hiring some one else to be the homeschool teacher besides the parents as true homeschooling. These are essentially private school at home.
This would not work in Sweden. Both parents have to work to pay the bills and put food on the table. For a single mom like me its inpossible. But I belive God is with my children were they are. One is in a christian school and the oldest os now working.
I’ve been a homeschool mom for 23 years. I have seven children. I believe the the Statist K-12 system should be abolished, and that it is distinctly anti-Christian and anti-family. But I would warn young mothers considering homeschooling, that if you have an unstable marriage, and your husband is unequally yoked with you, (doesn’t share the same heartfelt call to sincere Christian parenting and upbringing) you will be in for an incredibly difficult life. If you‘ve married a man who doesn’t actively and intentionally lead your family, love you, and discipline the children, you may have the best intentions, but homeschooling will be a heartache. I know.
We've done public school, private Christian school, and now are homeschooling. Homeschooling has been our favorite ❤️

Veritas Press has been producing homeschool curricula for a long time. A great resource.

Im a single mom homeschooling in America, and I can do it bc I work from home. Idk if yall can do that or start your own business but its worth it.
