Well done, Shahril! 🎉 I can see how you're moving towards a renowned international podcast format. I really appreciate your perspective on entitlement. It isn't something to be celebrated. From a young age, I've struggled with having a family closely tied to politicians. I used to see my experiences as normal, but now in my late 20s, I realize how troublesome entitlement can be. My family could easily make phone calls to cut queues at the immigration office, call the customs head to resolve company issues, MRSM admissions and have politicians visit our house regularly. People would greet my family with great respect, purely based on our connections. I also recall an event where someone was aware of my family's close ties and clearly didn't approve. This has made me reflect deeply on the need for a more just society. We need to eliminate cronyism and favoritism and strive for a meritocracy where everyone has a fair chance based on their abilities and effort. We’ve seen how Rafizi made a comeback, and I believe that you too should make a comeback in the political scene. But please, do it in a different platform. Let’s not buy into to racist rhetoric of your old party. You said once in KS that you’d be willing to join that young party. Maybe you should give the head lady a call to start your campaign preparations for the next general election. Anyways, looking forward to hearing more of this. Thanks!
Great perspective, deep, genuine and critical. Need more of this similar voice so we can build better Malaysia with citizens that want to get to the roots of matters and not shying away from expressing our views.
Thoughtful, measured & considered. Such a breath of fresh air in this day & age of instant gratification on social media. I'm hooked & can't wait for the next episode to drop.
agree. Shahril gets overshadowed and for the most part, not being able to challenge KJ's points despite more than often, KJ sharing some weak arguments to the related topics. Shahril expressed that he provides a balanced discussion in KS, but that is not how it is. a good example is how KJ still treats Najib as someone who deserves autonomous respect when in reality Najib's morality/integrity level is a low as the land that we step onto. Step up SH!
I like the music, definitely has Vox vibes. The cuts are well placed. The bombastic words should be kept to a minimum, they look better on text that you can pause and ruminate on but for flowing audio it feels a bit OTT. Move the needle a couple of notches towards “clear and concise”. Intonation could improve as well. This sounds more like reading off a script in front of class. We’re the audience, talk to us and be expressive as you would talking to a friend. All in all, there’s the bones of a good show in there, looks promising for a pilot!
1. Good handle : Subtext 2. While this deep dive is pretty rounded, your delivery is too monotonous. You need to see the audio chart how you sound from start to the end. Without visuals, you need to really strategise how the receiving end "hear" you, your voice and your thoughts. 3. I think you should keep this Subtext to 20 minutes to keep the listeners interest intact. Divide your thoughts carefully with a structure of segments eg 1.5mins of intro, 2mins of the angles you want to share, 1.5mins of throwing questions of provocation etc etc. 4. Then breakdown every segment with what exactly and how you want to leave an impression. You may even change the pace of your interval music according to your tonation in each segment. Yup, you need to strategise your tonation as you are doing this solo and you'd want your listeners to "wonder" with your thoughts. 5. Always have your punchlines ready and deliver them good! Coz your listeners will remember punchlines of all the things you say. 6. In the end, how your delivery lingers in one's mind is one measure of success. Bukan jadi a background sound; and masuk telinga kiri, keluar telinga kanan. 7. Your followers are already familiar with your audio identity and voice. Use these advantages to make them imagine in their mind your demeanour and your facial expressions while delivering your words throughout this Subtext. I'm sure you'll nail this, in time. 8. All the very best, Shahril.
Good attempt on social consciousness! Agree that you should weigh the positive and negative attributes in any person or organisation. Khazanah is a good point in question. What it has contributed to the nation has been very low key and the founders have done a great job and that should be disseminated to the general public. Not that we should not clamp down on the bad apple but that it should run it's course of publicity and audit and due action is seen be taken. This would ensure that public organisations in particular would step up and have a duty of care.
content was a solid 100 bro, infact i dont mind how u delivered it either.....I'm muz, from Singapore, singaporean but i do absolutely hope to live in msia one day, u guys have so much more to offer than Singapore ever can,i watch ks and ks lagi too, love the music u put in too bro, makes me feel macam I'm watching BBC radio, very nice touch!
Those who struggle to let go of privilege generally have nothing more to offer apart from leveraging that privilege. What I find interesting is that this soul searching seems to be provoked by a feeling of surprise. That so much good work is being done, why the outrage? Well you know yourself brother, the amount of good is far outweighed by corruption, and most of the time this good is nothing more than syok sendiri. This is the reality of elite led polieconomic systems.
Great insight, Shahril. It's so easy to dismiss how the common rakyat feel. Imagine what it feels not having enough to feed the family when some of the fortunate ones have wealth that could last for generations. It feels unfair if the fortunate ones keep receiving benefits largely because of their status and connections.
Abit lecturey my brother, shorter, punchier, pacier. Pick up the pace, livelier, engagier tone. Great topic, invaluable insight, just push energy in a level we know u can! Alway your A-Levels classmate, a fan and a friend.
Actually, refreshingly, this pace is good, communicated in a deeply thoughtful tone and nuance. Articulation is not a common strength in Msia. Perhaps u can use the 1.5x feature on youtube?
I come from family with only my father as breadwinner, N17 government officer. Since age of 7 in year 1997,my keen on "money" has always been top priority until now. I do agree that people like "us" always lack of money knowledge and maybe the other way always "being" ignorance about money. I believe because of lacking of financial /money, knowledge, that's where the hatred blows.
These days scarcity of time luxury to sit and read an article or blog seems open up a new form of consuming thoughts and ideas thus listening while in gym or driving or any favourite endeavour provides an ideal solution.
Brilliant shahril. Semoga terus maju and bright future ahead! To many more great ideas. This podcast or subtext reminded me so much of true crime podcast that is available in google podcast. What a refreshing approach to your listeners. I do reckon u listen to sword and scale, true crime both are from white color perspective and former fbi agent.
Congratulations..Love the format Shahril! Perhaps the narrative can be further appreciated if you have the text shared in video typo-graphic format. Not necessarily the whole text. More of highlighting certain sentences and keywords using sizes, bold texts or even effects. Banyak kerja sikit lah but I believe can help you to deliver the narrative better. Gambate Shahril!.
Salam. Great pilot episode. May this be the first to many episodes. Care not about the views. Just be consistent. Listeners like myself will be here. Only question: how many episodes per month are you setting for your own target? We'll hold you accountable.
For sure buyer will not pay multiple for the cash but to strip the cash through dividend, if legally done, indicate that the buyer/buyers are kurang pandai.
Sovereign/public fund needs highly professional with the highest integrity, proven integrity that is, to mamage. If political agenda enters the arena, failure is assured. Sabah Foundation, Bank Bumiputra, BMF, Lembu Gate, Perwaja, I MDB, Low Yat 2, the list is very very very long! So this FV dinggy is noisy for some really funny reasons to me, at least. Cemburu la, fashion, high society, glamour etc, just to digress.
guna subtitle ok, cuma kebanyakan orang biasa dengan gambar bergerak. mungkin boleh tambah animasi masa/jam bergerak. ada gambar gelombang bunyi berpusing-pusing sebagai latarbelakang. teringat main lagu di Windows Media Player dulu kala hehehe.
I understand the need to use English as the medium for your podcast, but it would be even better if it could reach a wider audience of Malay-speaking rakyat, bro. Thank you.
so, so good. been waiting for this kind of content for a while now and glad it's finally here. some quick pointers: 1. be more expressive in your tone and intonation. since we cant see your facial expressions, express those emotions through your voice 2. between each break, give a quick recap on what's been covered and what's in store for the next section. listeners will be able to follow your thought process better this way congratulations Shahril! amazing pilot episode, and can't wait for more
I like this. But I also have concerns on the future outcome of this. Not in the sense of public response but on SH's own content quality. Even though this is a good episode, it is also a deep dive of something you (SH) have said before hence repetition with slight squeeze of your own self. You are good but there's only 1 SH and if you squeeze them all too often people will think its the same thing over and over again. So I hope you take the slightly slow pace on this endevour. As much of the excitement of seeing the view numbers from this pilot episode, take your time to prep your content. I also dont think the audience want to see the next 10 episodes will be just the same as the pilot episode with different topic. You have multiple outlets now. KS, KS Lagi and now Subtext. Plus the future interviews or even guest in other shows or podcasts. And you deliver your best on each of them. Congrats but repetition is a sign of fatigue. You might drained yourself too much if these pipelines of emotions keeps increasing. Best of luck. Cheers.
This, while 'polite', is quite tone-deaf, or at least speaks of the disconnect you have with the masses. The mistrust towards the privileged is nothing new. And while everybody benefits from privilege in some way, the price of that benefit is that the privileged is open to scrutiny. The only 'gradual change' is that the scrutiny today is much more open than before, thanks to technology. While i would agree that viral activism can be brash and reactive, reducing the FV case to viral activism and "uneducated" netizens (you basically insinuated this) is just being defensive of your people (the privileged, despite what you believe).
Having commented the above, I agree that many criticisms of the nature of venture capitals are off the mark, but choosing to focus your response to those criticisms, yet ignoring the role of privilege in the FV case, and the subsequent misuse of funds by FV and 30 Maple, gives off the feeling that you are desperate to defend your fellow members of privilege.
Too high level language here for me. For d first 15 mins, I was still trying to understand what is it that Shahril is trying to say. I prefer d simple words used in Keluar Sekejap.
you're just repeating the same thing that we heard for the past few months. and then you're just summarising the reason why the public so angry. and then you just asking the general reason why the investment have been made. like you said it may be provocative thoughts to the listener. but for me it is just a provoking video for my patience due to waiting from start to end to hear you unveil how they got that investment and what the investment impact to the glc and it's users.
🤔 hmm..Shakespeare, me thinks u doth protest too much. Language is lovely when it is wielded artfully, not meandering all over the place. But ok, underneath all the fluff of candy floss, jealousy is never pretty, stupidity of the parties who parted with funds to a loss making enterprise without ensuring the losses were not due to incompetent management, and the ungrateful incompetent brats who took the money to ensure they first gave themselves a good life and never realising that one day you have to pay the piper. And yes, feudalistic idolising is still alive and kicking.
In all honesty, this podcast has too many big words in one episode. And trust me, I have listened a lot from well established foreign podcasts. They dont use that many big words. An effective message is a message well understood.
Looking forward to more episodes!
Brilliant. I like this podcast. The tone and presentation is very well done. More of this please
Good job, Shahril. This podcast is very thought provoking, I hope the younger generation would listen to.
Well done, Shahril! 🎉 I can see how you're moving towards a renowned international podcast format.
I really appreciate your perspective on entitlement. It isn't something to be celebrated. From a young age, I've struggled with having a family closely tied to politicians.

Thanks!
Enjoyed this. I appreciate the relaxed pace and calm voice. Easier to digest. Looking forward to your next topic 😊
Well done Sharhril Malaysia need more individual like you 👍
Brilliant.
Thre is definitely a space for this societal analysis... subtext.
I enjoy this format shahril. The background tunes are on point too! 😊 A thought provoking audio to get my day started
giving my fullest support to keep this alive. we need more honest thoughts and less political pander.
i think this the version of you that we all sought for, well done
Wealth is responsibility, not privilege.
It's about time that the more interesting half of KS started his own channel.
agree. Shahril gets overshadowed and for the most part, not being able to challenge KJ's points despite more than often, KJ sharing some weak arguments to the related topics. This is great! If you produce number of episodes and make it as book. I would buy it too! The insight, thought 🎉
Music to my ears. Next episode pls!
Wow I love this “subtext” - it’s fascinating to listen to your thoughts in many videos
I like the music, definitely has Vox vibes. The cuts are well placed.

Agreed 100%
Tone, humility and a minimum honesty are a good start
This feels like a segment from BFM of the past. Keep it up, I appreciate such content!
A truthful voice of Shahril Hamdan, keep it up. Eager for next episode.
Yessaaa!! This is what we are waiting for.
We don't want perfect.
We want authenticity.
We want passion.

Subtext ASMR with Shahril Hamdan. Keep it up man 💯

a very mind-opening topic
On point, honest, thought-provoking, love it Shahril🧡❤️
Shahril, good attempt 👍🏻 but once awhile, put some graphics/chart to point your points clearer
wow this is like an audiobook
Soothing sia, I listen before going to bed ❤😂 keep up Shahril this is good concept
Abit lecturey my brother, shorter, punchier, pacier. Pick up the pace, livelier, engagier tone. Great topic, invaluable insight, just push energy in a level we know u can! Alway your A-Levels classmate, a fan and a friend.
I prefer this slow calm pace so can regurgitate n reflects on information better
Actually, refreshingly, this pace is good, communicated in a deeply thoughtful tone and nuance. Articulation is not a common strength in Msia. Perhaps u can use the 1.5x feature on youtube?
I wud choose to differ with u. I like the pace and calm tone. It helps listeners to ponder upon the points better
Ur voice is comforting n full ofknowledge n perspective. Keep the good work shahril
Love this! Please upload more

You should continue, but try to make it around 8 minutes max and attend to the comments for interaction.

listening to this podcast with the background music feels like watching the Netflix thriller "You"
This shift inchoated so many years ago, though it may be gradual. Social media made its growth exponential in terms of comments and criticism
Brilliant shahril. Semoga terus maju and bright future ahead! To many more great ideas. This podcast or subtext reminded me so much of true crime podcast that is available in google podcast. 😮😮 errr bro, boleh bikin 1bahasa version tak?
great. thanks shahril
Undeniably this is a complex social issue
Congratulations..Love the format Shahril!

Gambate Shahril!.
I enjoyed this.
Thank you sir.
Trust is earned, not by the color of our skin.
ok I like how Malaysia is being verbalised here. I usually hear ppl say Malayshear when they try to say it in english context.
Nice. Was waiting for this. Ala Klein
klein is neoliberal trash
Listening to this to practise for IELTS listening. 😂
Salam. Great pilot episode. May this be the first to many episodes. Care not about the views. Just be consistent. Listeners like myself will be here.

As the song goes, Money, money, money,
Must be funny (sunny) in the rich man's world.
I don't know why but its giving me the old tv pendidikan vibe😅

When you wanted to defend FV so much that you literally started a new channel
You are chihuahua arent you? Small yet annoyingly loud
More like a startup business community perspective to me.
@ when you want an agreeable comment so much, you literally highlighted the comment
guna subtitle ok, cuma kebanyakan orang biasa dengan gambar bergerak.
mungkin boleh tambah animasi masa/jam bergerak.
ada gambar gelombang bunyi berpusing-pusing sebagai latarbelakang.

Privilege : it is superb because it is expensive and it is expensive so it is superb!
Wow what is this, new KS spinoff ?

heavy stuff but nice
Public service is honourable, but low grade politicians make the Rakyak label public office seekers as opportunists.
👍
Rich become richer poor become poorer. If this investment privieelege ecosystem going on 😢. Something need to chnage
More impactful if we can see your face - video recorded format I mean
Ado... Ckp bahasa melayu kan senang, lagi ramai boleh faham dan lagi ramai view🤦

takyah jadi kaya tapi tamao baya cukai dan takot hilang kelayakan subsidi.
Wow
sounds like morgan freeman but a man with a suit and suave.
Nice man.
A shorter 20 mins would be better. Good content but perhaps a bit verbose. Look forward to next shorter and sharper episode
