- Drying fresh stinging nettle is a great way to preserve nettle for long term storage. I love using dry nettle in tea and custom tea blends.
Here I share how I dry and store my stinging nettle for the year.

We purposely brought nettles to our homestead for emergency food. They have spread into a massive patch over 3-4 years. Now I eat them a lot, as they are good for men's health as well. I blanche, then cool quickly in cold water. Then stuff freezer bags and freeze. Then in winter when I want something " fresh" tasting and wild I have fun with a massive meat cleaver and chop off frozen chunks and make soup, tea, or spanakopita. Having a chef's background is helpful on my homestead!
awesome idea to add nettle to spanakopita! It just makes sense. I worked at a Greek and Lebanese restaurant and speciality store and still make many of the recipes at home that I learned there. Spanakopita is great for the freezer. Yes, knowing how to cook is so important !
@@preservingtoday Preparing wild, or self grown things is a joy.
Ive just picked the leaves and leaving them to dry on a tray
excellent. are you planning to use them for tea as well?
@@preservingtoday Most definitely
