Just came across this and I love it! I am slowly learning to play the tenor my grandad left me. It is wonderful to hear it sing again! Thank you and I am looking forward to more from you!
I am putting together an old antique tenor banjo I use to play years ago I remember having a problem transposing songs I played on the guitar. I played by ear so the chords where not correctly played but they were the right notes. lol thanks for posting c];-D
Apart from cgda you can tune gdae of course the chord arrangements are different and so to the root tonic third fifth etc.,, I can play rag in this tuning though I mostly play irish scottish. Might try the cgda for the crack Anyway - "Vive la difference - wi" mon ami.
J R - Hi Vega Fan. I play a 1926 Tenor Artist Professional with the San Francisco Banjo Band (see TH-cam vids). Purchased from the great string/keyboardist, “Banana” (Lowell Levinger) of Youngbloods fame! Check out his Players Vintage Instruments website - located in Inverness, Pt Reyes. Love to hear you play, R J !
I'm having a nightmare tuning my banjo.I keep on breaking the A string.I'd be happy with standard or Irish tuning.and when I try to tune the C string i'm getting it to G and Iv'e still got to get it past A and B to get to C and it feels as if it's going to break andit's not as if I can go and buy a single A string.Iv'e got to buy a whole packet of strings so i'm collecting alot of G D and C strings. HELP !

Very nice!
Thanks for the lesson. How do you play so quietly? Is your banjo muted, somehow? Mine is really loud.
It's not muted, and can be very loud too ! But you can learn how to control volume... to me, banjo players play too loud really often ;-)
How long is the tenor banjo you're using?
Nice VEGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how old ? it is from the 1920's
