Bryan, Can’t imagine why someone would read your episodes but not subscribe. You’ve saved me a lot of money over the past few years. Enjoy your info and the friendly way of presenting it. Thank you very much!
You guys are way too kind! Thank you so much! I really appreciate all the support. Still can't believe I have even 1,000 subscribers. Really appreciate everyone's kind words... it really keeps me going! :)
@@DThunder85 Pity you didn't "tryhard" to come up with constructive criticism. When you don't "tryhard" to please your audience you end up with crap like jaguars new commercial, useless, alienating and soon to be out of business.
Nice to see there are affordable alternatives out there, and you do a great job showcasing them with your reviews. A lot of us hobbyist can’t afford the dream tools that are only used occasionally. Thank you for another entertaining video Bryan. Hope Burt had a good vacation! Keep up the great work!
Really appreciate it Jeff! I've always been pretty impressed with Milescraft. I think they really do make some quality tools for the price. Have a great weekend and I really appreciate you watching!
Bryan, kudus for another informative and educational video. I watched your previous video on Milescraft tools and was impressed with both their quality and functionality, not to mention the lower cost. I have purchased many of the Milescraft's tools that you have previewed and I 'm totally impressed with their performance, so much I have recommended them to other woodworkers and craftsmen. Thank you for the continued bander between cuz Bert and yourself.
Thank you so much Ken! I really appreciate that. I try to be as honest as possible on this channel. There are a lot of tools i don't show, or tell you they suck if I run accross it during the filming of the video. Milescraft truly is a great brand. Not perfect but good! :). Thanks again for watching and your kind words Ken!
Well done. next time you look at the Milescraft line, check out the Milescraft 4016 BenchLock - Bench Clamp Base. I use this on my drill press table, my MFT, and my portable DeWalt work tables to hold down stuff when needed. They work with the Milescraft quick clamps and with a small bit of tweeking, the Kregg quick clamps as well. And for $10, they are a great way to use have a hold down clamp that fits 20mm and 3/4" (19mm) holes.
OMG, thank you so much for sharing this. I had not seen these tools and I will definitely be getting them. I can't believe I've missed those. I will be doing another milescraft video in the near future. These will be great add ons. Thanks so much for sharing and watching Warren!
Thanks for your honest and informative review of these tools. Milescraft tools are very innovative, sufficiently accurate and yet reasonably priced. Those of us with a limited tool budget won’t go wrong with these great tools. Keep up the good job you’re doing with your videos!
I’ve had the miles track saw for quite a few months and it works perfect. It’s very accurate. I did not experience the problems that you came up with, but I’m not using the full 55 inches just to cut out cabinet boxes and cut down. Plywood works perfect great video
Thanks so much JoeL! I really appreciate you sharing, your opinion is much more valuable than mine since you've had it for longer. Glad to hear it's holding up. Thanks again for sharing and watching. Really apprecaite it!
Happy Saturday, and thanks for this weekend's video. I've been impressed with most of the Milescraft tools I've bought or used over the years so I'm not surprised by your findings. Enjoy your weekend.
Thanks so much Pat! Glad you liked the video and really appreciate you commenting. Hope you have a great saturday and find some time to relax this weekend. Thanks as always for watching!
Milescraft products are almost always a good bang-for-the-buck option. That said, I think it was a mistake using T20 instead of SQ2 bits for the pocket hole jig. Proprietary screws are fine until you run out on a project. The bits need to match the screws available at the big box stores when more are needed quickly.
100% agree with you ST-0311. I will probably toss those out or throw them into a hardware drawer and move right back to the robertson bits. Thanks so much for watching!
Another fantastic video! I just got the Milescraft Track Saw Guide and cannot wait to try it out. Especially since the cost is so much comparably cheaper. Thanks again Bryan!
Oh nice! Let me know what you think of it when you get rolling with it. I thing it's a really nice peice of equipment. I really like the video that newton makes did on it as well. He had some interesting points on setting the saw down on a counter top. Probably worth watching! Thanks so much for watching Jason!
Great video, thanks. I am a pretty big fan of Milescraft products. They usually work well without breaking the bank. I am a huge fan of using dowels. I have both of the excellent jigs that come out of Canada. I recently saw a review of the Milescraft joint master and I just had to buy it. The accuracy of this tool can't be beat and it is only 40 bucks! A fraction of the cost of its competition. The only downside is having to unscrew a part for different configurations. So I just bought two.
Oh wow, thanks so much for sharing that Greg! I've looked at that tool a few times myself. That really means a lot from someone who has the higher end dowling jigs. I assume you have the JessEm ones. Those are excellent from what I hear. Really appreciate you sharing this!
@FlynndoggWoodwork Hey Buddy! Yeah I love dowels for joinery since I don't plan on buying a Festool Domino any time soon. I have nothing against anyone who needs one or wants one, that isn't what I need at this time. I have the Dowel Max and both versions of the Jessum Doweling jig. Yes they are all excellent, but if I were only to buy one, it would be the newest Stainless steel pro model by JessUm. Pretty much comes with everything you need right out of the box. I consider the price a good value for what you get. What attracted me to the Milescraft jig is the built in clamp, and the fact that the body is all metal. It takes a little more time to set up, but is super accurate. Highly recommended. Thanks for your excellent content.
I would take exception with the criticism of the saw not being fully supported by the track for cut lengths longer than 49". I don't consider it excessively dangerous. How much of a circular saw is supported at the beginning of a cut when used without the track system? An 1 1/2"? At least being partially supported and engaged with the track keeps you aligned with the kerf to minimize the chance of kickback. In that light, I would suggest the track is still more safe. The drag felt while pushing the saw down the track can be lessened by waxing the saw base and the track with a paste type car wax. I value your opinion and thanks for reviewing these tools at your own expense!
Thanks so much for sharing TheDadx3! I think what I ran into was when I was trying to start the saw guide off the end of the track I had it catch the wood before it was fully up to speed and it got some kick back. That was my only concern. Really all of that would be fixed with a circular saw (affordable) that had some plung capability. Someone needs to invent one if they haven't already!
Picked up the cabinetmate. Thanks for the tip. I bought the tracksaw guide and drill thingy years ago, and I'm so glad that I did, cause I learned that I rarely use either. Saved myself a ton of money ;-) Take care.
Awesome Gazman! Thanks so much for sharing! Love hearing the experience of poeple who have had items like this for a while. Really appreicate it. Have a great weekend!
Definitely some great additions to consider to save money. Thank you for sharing your awesome reviews. Everyone stay safe, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
I like Milescraft. I purchased the 6" and the 12" square after watching your video - Unearthing 5 Extraordinary Tools You Never Knew Existed - I also have their doweling jig kit (not in this video) and the Sand Plane. I am happy with all the Milescraft products I have purchased. Good video.
Oh excellent! I need to get that 12" square! Really appreciate your support and watching my videos, truly truly appreciate it. Glad to hear you like the milescraft tools as well. Have a great Saturday TheKidFromYTown!
You'd think that the wheel couldn't be re-invented with improvements but some of these tools do exactly that with added affordability, thank you for highlighting them and using your own cash to do so. 👍🏻 👍🏻 Great video as always.
Thanks so much Sly Wolf. that's what I love about checking out some of these new tools. Just a couple of added features makes a big difference! Hope you are having a great weekend!
I actually purchased the track guide back in February and I have used it a number of times and it did a great job. When I put it together, I didn't have the issue that you did where the screws holding the joint together marked the top and I know that I tightened the screws a little too much.
That's good to hear Larry! I'm glad you are having success with that Track Guide! It really is a nice piece of equipment for the price! Thanks so much for watching!
You said it! GREAT VIDEO! I’ve got the Kreg R3 jr portable pocket hole jig in my Amazon cart for when I need it, but the Milescraft looks like a better option for a hobbyist on a tight budget. Every dollar counts! I’ll definitely be keeping this in mind when I get to a project that I can’t use the K5 on.
Oh nice! Yes, I would definitely get the milescraft over the Kreg. I just think it is put together very nicely and seems to be a little bit easier to use. Glad the vidoe helped and thanks as always for watching Damon!
I’ve got the drill mate and track saw guide with a small few others. I’ll have to give that cabinet mate a go. I like Milescraft stuff, fab video yet again fella 🇬🇧🇺🇸
18:52 if you make a dedicated bit for drilling shelf pin holes, use a dremel to flatten the spot where the stop’s set screw impacts. Even better are the stop collars with dual set screws like dowelmax has.
Excellent idea liquidrockaquitics. I'm totally going to do that with my dremel and have a dedicated bit for my other jigs. I had not thought of that, but what a great idea. Thanks so much for sharing and watching!
I recently bought the pocket hole jig kit, and it came with the 100 jig (single hole) as well as the 200, and one of the clamps! I think it was something like $37. Heck of a deal. I really liked the Milescraft dowel kit too. It was nice hearing that you liked it better than than the kreg.( I also have the track saw guide on order)
Oh nice! That is a heck of a deal. After making this video, I'm thinking about doing another one with some more of their tools. I was just doing some research on them, and there are a lot more to look at! Thanks so much for sharing and watching Shirlbw! Really appreciate it!
I'm guessing I'll eventually check that out! Milescraft has so many tool options I could definitely do anohter video. I'm going to add this to my list! Thanks so much for the suggestion and thanks for watching Meilyn!
I have the Milescraft drill guide and love it. I think you meant run-out (the wobble) not chatter. Your drill bit didn't look so hot, try a different one. Keep it up buddy, the free-bees will arrive soon. always enjoy your channel
The Rockler drill guide does do self-centering, there's two pins that store in the top on either side of the drill attachment point that you can screw in to the base and have that centering. Yours appear to be missing.
Interesting, I'm not sure mine ever came with those. Thanks so much for sharing, I think the only loose accessories I got was the chuck. Appreciate you sharing and watching 1steelcobra!
Excellent video! I wish this was published when I got my Kreg stuff. I have the Accu-cut system, the small pocket hole jig 320, and the shelf-pin jig. The pin jig works pretty well, but yeah, the stop collar loves to move unless you reef on the screw. The pocket hole jig works well, but I didn't get the system because I wanted the flexibility of the individual jigs the 320 has. Out of all of them I think the Accu-cut has been the biggest heartbreaker. No matter what I do, my cuts always seem to slope away from my cut line, forcing me to either re cut, or sand the 8th inch left behind. Perhaps I calibrated it wrong, but I've tested it, and it seems ok. I even started to blame the Diablo 40-tooth blade I was using, thinking it could have possibly been blade flex. I'm really digging the fact that Milescraft also seems to include a lot of things Kreg just doesn't. I had to buy the clamps separately, and at $20 for a set of 2 fairly flimsy plastic clamps they're way more expensive than they should be. I would have bought cheaper clamps, but none of them seemed to work with the Accu-cut rails.
I totally agree with you on the Accu-cut. I bought that years ago before I ever got a track saw, and I could NEVER get it to work right. It's been sitting on the bottom shelf of one of one of my drawers for well over 5 years now. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences, really appreciate it and thanks so much for watching Demontekdigital!
@@FlynndoggWoodwork You're welcome! Thank you for the wonderful videos. The Accu-cut is a real shame due to it's price. One of these days I'll force myself to use it to see if I can calibrate it correctly. It's kind of become one of those "TH-cam creators suggestions" that ended up being half of what they all claim it is. Either that, or I'm an idiot, which is entirely possible, lol.
I love the TrackSawGuide, I have used it to cut insulating foam to do my barn with, and now I am using it with a Ryobi battery circ saw to cut sheet goods in the parking lot of Lowe's, since I don't have a truck. I really wish someone would make a square adapter and/or parallel adapter for this track.
What an excellent idea on the square adapter. I didn't even give a look to see if the ones. I have will work with it. Thank so much for sharing and watching jlafoon! Really appreciate it!
Of the 4 the pockethole jig is the most interesting to me. I don't work on sheet goods, the drill press has to much wobble for my liking, and I am not at the moment building cabinets. Very entertaining video tho.
Thanks so much! I would tend to agree with you. I think that was the tool I was the most impressed with as well. Thanks so much for sharing and watching livingaftermidnight!
Not a fan of Milescraft but I do have and like the sanding blocks. When you start out, having a cheaper alternative is awesome. As you get deeper into your hobby/passion, you start to appreciate and understand the old "buy once cry once" axiom. But any barrier to entry into woodworking/DIY is a good thing in my book. Just commenting to appease the algo overlords!
Thank you so much Hansan! I totally agree with you. Some of the tiniest little features can cost an arm and a leg, but it is sooooo worth it if it increases efficiency, accuracy etc. Great comment and thanks for watching!
Morning. I have a couple of Milescraft tools that you demonstrated and am happy with of them. But, I was not impressed with the dowel drilling jig. I don't need the time savings advantages of the Domino, so I have the Jessem jig. It can be complicated and fussy to adjust. I bought the Milescraft to compare. It adjusts easily, but would flex with use. This issue renders it utterly useless. After a month of mis-aligned dowels, I donated it to the local thrift store. Thank you for another info-taining video.
Oh great point RichPeggyFranks. That's one of the main problems I could see with Milescraft. I think they make most of their tools with a lot of plastic components (probably what makes them more affordable). Any flex with something like that would be no bueno! Glad you have the JessEm though. I love every product I've gotten from JessEm! Thanks so much for sharing and watching!
Those must be old micro jig push blocks, mine look different and are angled like your milescraft, love em..I dont own any milescraft stuff, but looks decent . personally I wouldn't play with any of that circular saw track stuff, they just don't get it like a track saw, but you can get the Wen corded track saw with 110" track and clamps for 200 out the door, I got it just to see lol, and really its fine, haven't hated on it yet..do want that drillmate though , there are times when i wish i had one... pretty cool, thought I subbed ya, guess not but am now lol...have a great day...
Great points Ravenheart! I got my microjig blocks about 5-6 years ago. I may have gotten an older model at the time. Really like the milescraft ones quite a bit better. I think you make an excellent point on the track saw. I have not tried the Wen one yet, but I've heard good things! Thanks so much for sharing and watching, really appreciate it!
I’m always interested in your tool comparisons, Bryan. They tend to be informative, and help craftspeople make better decisions as to what tool they may want to purchase next. However, I am sorry to see that Burt was able to make it back from vacation 😵💫
@@josephconsuegra6420 I've got the Dowling jig, it's okay if you're careful but I think the sliding side stop should be deeper so it makes more contact with the surface of the wood. It's prone to tilting and there's not much room for clamping. I may make one out of some scrap metal I've got that would work better.
For the the sticky track just put some carnuba car wax on the track and the guide and it'll probably move a lot better. I use that on my cheap table saw since Johnson paste wax is no longer available and our only hardware store doesn't stock any other brands. And the wax hasn't caused any issue with staining wood run across it since it doesn't appear to transfer. I've got the milescraft door hinge and striker plate jig. It works decent enough except the spacer for hinges loves to fall out so a piece of painters tape is needed to keep it in place while routing out the hinge slot. I went with the dewalt door knob hole kit since it was close enough to the same price and was a better design for clamping to the door, no tools or screwing to the door to hold in place.
Great idea James! Thanks so much for sharing, not sure why I didn't think of that. I'm going to do that today! I encountered a little bit of the same issue since I've made this video with the cabinetmate. The indexing pin loved to slowly come out. I think that's a great idea about putting some tape on it though. THank so much for the tips! I'm definitely going to put them into action James!
@@jstaffordii Lowes is almost fifty miles away from me so I don't go there often and the hardware/lumber yard here doesn't carry it that's why I switched to carnuba wax.
The Milescraft drill guide chuck has tons of run-out and the plunge mechanism has way more slop than Rockler. Might be good enough for rough carpentry.
I recently got the track, and it was pretty fantastic to be able to make strait cuts. I'm just not very good at keeping my saw strait, I always end up with wavy edges. It's a bit fiddly though to set up, with the clamps on the plate and the screws to hold the track segments together. And even at half the normal length, the 27.5" tracks are still too big to put away in any kind of reasonable tool box. I'm not sure what I want to do long-term to store them. For now they are back in the original box. I also bought the extra track because I needed to rip some very long boards, and I found that with all the packing materials discarded I can fit all four track segments into the box that the main kit came in. But I'm a little worried about the tracks sliding and bumping around and get dinged/bent.
Thanks so much for sharing Lord_zeel. Yes, tracks can be a pain to store. What I've done in the past is simply hang them on a nail on the wall. That has worked out well for me. Keeps them out of the way and protects them a little bit too. I'm trying to remember where I have this set stored. I think they are on my wall as well. Thanks so much for watching, really appreciate it!
I LOVE Milescraft stuff. Everything I have bought from them has been well-made, well-designed with lots of great features, and it is all affordable. If they release something that is similar to another companies products, they always seem to improve upon the design of the original and fix the annoying things that needed to be fixed in the other companies tools. If I had a choice of products to choose from, and I see that one is a Mlescraft, that is the first one I look at. It may not always be the one I buy, but you can't go wrong with them. The only thing I found I don't like is their center finder jig, but I just don't like that style of tool, not their design. I bought their drill guide even though it has a 3/8" chuck. They should have put a 1/2" chuck on that tool.
Awesome! I'm on the same boat as you Sculptormills! Really been pleased with almost everything I've gotten from them. I think so far my absolute favorite I've got from them are the push blocks. There really is no reason to spend the extra money on Microjig for those. Thanks so much for sharing and watching, really appreciate it!
Excellent question, I suppose you could, I would be worried (at least with mine) that the blade would move a bit and either scar up the track or the wood I'm cutting. Excellent point though. I'm going to dig into this a little deeper. Thanks so much for watching Ellsgeiwitz!
I have some of the milescraft tools including the “drill press”. Enjoyed you video! Showcased some things I didn’t know they had. Always enjoy watching! Side question, is your “cousin” Burt, like Reynolds or Bert, like Bert and Ernie? I know which one I think! 😂😂😂
Thanks so much for watching Jared! There are so many milescraft tools beyond what I showed in this video as well. I'll probably do another video down the road. I think Burt is a mixture of Burt Reynolds and Cousin Eddy. With a bit of Butthead in him! :)
LOVE YOUR CHANNEL FLYNNDOGG I LOVE THE MILESCRAFT ALSO THEY HAVE A LOT OF PRECISION FOR THE PRICE. CAN YOU TRY THE NUMBER AND LETTER STUFF FROM THEM IVE BEEN LOOKING AT THEM
Oh nice! Great suggestion kisarander! I've looked at those a few times. The sign making kits would be an excellent thing for me to take a look at in a future video. I'll add that to my list. Thanks so much for the suggestion!
Great video. I have the portable drill press and the feather boards (that you pictured but didn't discuss). With the drill press, I don't have any problem with chatter, but I do have a problem with racking. When plunging the drill it often binds up due to the racking. This makes it annoying to use. The build quality is also quite poor. The feather boards have a significant design flaw. When they're at or near the maximum distance from the mitre slot, the bolts don't spread the mitre slides sufficiently to hold them in place. I only used them a few times before replacing them with Bow feather boards. Bow may be 2-3 x the price, but the Milescraft ones are almost worthless in my opinion.
I would agree with you on those milescraft featherboards. They are definitely not their best product. I prefer bow as well. I actually did a video on just featherboards and I tested a few of them (maybe 5) and the milescraft were one of the easiest to move when tightened down if I remember correclty. Great observations and thanks for sharing PriceyBuilt! Really appreciate it!
@@PriceyBuilt here is the link: th-cam.com/video/NCJzJopgZ1w/w-d-xo.html I warn you some of my older videos (and some of my videos now are a little annoying!)
@@FlynndoggWoodwork I just watched it. It's a good video. You also clearly identified the exact problem I had - at full extension the Milescraft feather board is useless. 🙂
I have the drill press guide and really don't use it. Changing the angle is a hassle and when attempting to drill the angle the drill has a tendency to wonder. It's not my drill bits, I use DeWalt brad point bits. The other issue I have with the device is the plunging action. It's not smooth. I've dry lubed it and it still hangs occasionally. Last but not least the adapter to the drill should be a standard 1/4 not the odd ball size that requires you to either chuck it up or use an adapter. Other than that it kinda does the job. I went out and purchsed a low cost Wen drill press.
I think you made the exact right decision on going with that Wen Drill press. Excellent move. I've heard a lot of good things about those and those will definitely not wobble. Thanks so much for sharing your experience and watching Francischarboneau!
I recently got the track saw guide, and it’s a great tool for its price. Not something i will use all the time,so I can’t justify buying an actual track saw, seems silly considering I have two circular saws anyway. I wish you had of shown the bushings, they are a bit fiddly to install, but they don’t affect the sliding of the saw at all, and they totally remove the slop from the slider.
Yes, I agree with you Splinters_66 I probably should have shown those. I was really running into this video being too long so I actually decided to X that out during the filming of it. Probably should have done it. Thanks so much for the comment and i really appreciate you watching!
I might just be outside of polite, but did you use some paste wax on that track saw upper & lower surfaces before you did your conns ? Ok,now on the drill guide … both the both the Milescraft and the Rocker they have four mounting holes so you can screw ‘em to your workbench. I would not recommend that but I would screw it to a board large enough to stabilize it or clamp it to whatever . 😊
Great idea on the paste wax for the track saw. Someone else mentioned that as well! I agree with you on the the mounting of the units. Now that I have two I may make one dedicated to being mounted and have the other unmounted for those special occasions. Thanks so much for sharing and watching Roland!
I always enjoy your videos, informative and entertaining. If you were playing around with adding a background soundtrack and want some feedback, it was a distraction and slightly annoying.
Just a heads up, when I watch your latest videos or shorts, it seems the audio is lower than the other videos I just clicked from. I know personally I have to adjust the audio on my videos because the default doesn't use full volume with the software I use. Anyways, keep it up!
Thank you so much for sharing htis Jon. Someone else mentioned this as well. I'm working to fix this issue. I've made some microphone adjustments this week and hopefully future videos will be better mixed. Really appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching!
Great question. I have not used the Wen Track Saw, I only have some Wen Track. I was quite impressed with the Wen track however as it works seemlessly with my festool track saw. I would definitely recommend going for the track saw vs trying to piece together a circular saw to this milescraft attachemnt if you can afford it. Just my take! Thanks so much for watching Jonavedian!
When this showed up in my recommendations, I totally misread the title as "Minecraft Tool" and was _super_ confused until I looked more closely. 😂 (edit at 17:45 - oh goddammit you played into it, okay. heh.)
Haha! Too funny! :). I would think my kids had been watching youtube if that showed up on my recommendations! :). Thanks so much for watching slartimus!
Anytime you connect two tracks, you should leave a little space between the rails, then align them with a straightedge. The ends of the rails may not be perfect. Aligning it this way guarantees that the rails are straight. That Miles craft runout is terrible. The problem isn't "chatter", it's the size of the hole. If there is runout in the chuck, the holes will never be the right size. A good drill press should have a chuck runout of no more than a thousandth or two. Obviously, one wouldn't expect this sort of accuracy on one of these jigs, but it is important. A Milescraft pocket hole jig with a Kreg clamp? Really? 😁
Thank so much for sharing kwilliams! Really appreciate it. I agree with you on your track alignment, but there is only so much time in these videos to keep it interesting. I'd love to use a milescraft face clamp but just don't have one! :). So Kreg it is!
Hadn't caught a video in a bit but dude, it looks like you have dropped a few lbs. glad to see it if that's the case and keep it up. If not then your looking good anyways. Love the videos thanks.
Thanks so much Buckman! Yessir, dropped about 60lbs so far. It's the story of my life, up and down with weight, hopefully I'll keep it off this time! Thanks so much for noticing and watching!
Dogg man, how can you make a profit when you're buying everything. Milescraft needs to sponsor you; you've got the whole product line. Ah, Festool, we're doing push-ups. And there's the man, effing Burt. Not to nitpick, but we think that the one "handle" on the Rockler is actually a knob, probably meant for adjusting the angle of the drill. And now the Festool drill prominently displayed, that was good for a set of a hundred.
I know right. If I ever get a sponsor, I may already have all their tools after all these videos! :). Glad we could get some reps in for you today. Totally agree with you on the rockler. It is a knob, but I find myself using it as a handle more often than not. Great point! Thanks as always for chiming in Meat and I hope you have a great rest of the weekend!
@@FlynndoggWoodwork Dogg man, with our luck, we'd be using that knob like a handle and change the drilling angle on the work piece. There would be a bunch of cursing then.
:). That square is such a good deal. Hard to believe! I use that edge sander all the time, Really like it. It eats up sand paper pretty quickly but it's an easy fix just by rotating the sandpaper. Thanks again for watching!
when buying cheap things to avoid buying the expensive version I want later, I like to buy things that do the job, but in a different way, or are an upgrade to a completely different tool. like a drill guide vs a drill press, a drill guide will never be a drill press, no one should be buying one thinking itl be a drill press. however a drill guide is a completely different tool, I cant take a drill press on my roof and drill a practically straight (not perfectly) hole through my roof, but I can bring a guide. so Im buying a guide before a drill press because itl get the job done for what I need at the moment, and it will still be useful after I get a drill press. I would HATE to spend $200 on a cheap drill press that I dont want and WILL replace, in fact, im hoping to not even buy a drill press because I'd rather have a mill, or at least a mini-mill, which can be used as a drill press, only to end up with a shit drill press ill never use again that I now have to get rid of. its a waste of $200.
@@FlynndoggWoodwork I believe I have changed my mind. Harbor Fright has a table top drill press for 84. I think I'll take milescraft drill press back and get drill press from Harbor Fright instead. I'll be able to do more with a real drill press.
That's a great idea. I hadn't thought about it. I'm getting ready to organize my shop and I think that is something I'll think about then. Thanks so much for watching Patrick!
i’ve come to be frustrated with every Milescraft door tool I’ve owned..to the point where I gave a couple to a neighbor who used them once and threw them in the garbage. Good concepts but there’s always at least one major design flaw that makes me think nobody at Milescraft has actually used their tools for real work. Their hinge mortising kit is only good for making a full-door jig, and the Lock Mate Plus is complete garbage. If you need repeatable, fast, and precise door tools, make your own.
Great advice erock801. Nothing works better than a homade jig. I feel like a lot of there stuff is made for beginners who maybe don't know how to make stuff. But it may frustrate them with issues like the ones you spoke of, thinking it is their mistake and the tools. Thanks so much for watching. Really appreciate it!
I know, I actually had this video already done before you discussed it last week. I think next week will be better and the following week even better. I've made some adjustments to my microphone as well as my editing technique. Really appreciate you letting me know last week. I'll get there! :)
The Milescraft drill guide is extremely problematic. There is way too much play in the guides which allows for significant drift when drilling, even if the unit is secured to the surface. Also, the spring prevents the drill from going all the way down.
Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the design of drill guides to begin with. I think the rockler is more steady, but for the price the milescraft is a better option if you absolutely need one. I'll admit, I've only used my rockler guide probably twice on a real project. Most of the time it sits in a drawer and collects dust. Thanks for watching nissimhadar!
It's so funny you mentioned that Corby. I actually thought about making some t-shirts saying that, but then I didn't want to get into any politics on this channel! :). Too funny!
Another great video. I figured out a hack for the drill guide a while back (I spent the money on the Rockler too). It’s not perfect but it helped out with larger flat projects Portable Drill Guide Hack th-cam.com/users/shortsPlnk8FlJ7mY?feature=share
Bryan,
Can’t imagine why someone would read your episodes but not subscribe. You’ve saved me a lot of money over the past few years. Enjoy your info and the friendly way of presenting it.
Thank you very much!
I watch a fair number of woodworking videos, but Bryan's are unique. Simple, straight forward, and not pretentious.

@@DThunder85 Pity you didn't "tryhard" to come up with constructive criticism.

:). Well done. next time you look at the Milescraft line, check out the Milescraft 4016 BenchLock - Bench Clamp Base.

Very good presentation… Unbiased and honest. You point out the pros and the cons and a very fair and accurate manner. Well done!
Thank so much Ken! I really appreciate that. Have a great day!
Good job Bryan. Great video and informative as always.
Thanks so much Bryan! I appreciate that. Have a great Saturday!
@@gregghernandez2714 Awesome to hear Gregg! Thanks again!
@@FlynndoggWoodwork I can see the problem there. Good point.
Nice review. Milescraft circle jig for the win. Now back to counting my holes.

Damn my thought😂
I expected the same
Excellent video!
Haha! Me too! :(. Thanks so much for putting up with him this week. I know not everyone likes him :). Really appreciate you watching Joe!
I own their sanding blocks, pocket hole jigs, and dowel jig.
Oh nice! Sounds like you have some great experience with them as well. thanks so much for sharing and watching Joseph!
Minwax makes a paste wax similar to the old SC Johnsons. Found it at Lowe's for $15 for a 16oz tub.

Great video. Thanks.
Thanks so much Robert! I appreciate that. Thanks so much for watching!
The tacksaw would be great for breaking down plywood.
Oh yes! It is excellent for that! If you don't have a track saw already, this is a great option! Thanks so much for watching RodBuilder!
Could you loosen the depth lock on the saw to use it as a plunge function with the track?
Excellent question, I suppose you could, I would be worried (at least with mine) that the blade would move a bit and either scar up the track or the wood I'm cutting. Excellent point though. I'm going to dig into this a little deeper. Thanks so much for watching Ellsgeiwitz!
I have some of the milescraft tools including the “drill press”. Enjoyed you video! Showcased some things I didn’t know they had. Always enjoy watching!

@@FlynndoggWoodwork I just watched it. It's a good video. You also clearly identified the exact problem I had - at full extension the Milescraft feather board is useless. 🙂
Drill press is good for setting stair spindles
Oh nice! Hadn't thought about that. Great idea, thanks for sharing and watching Simon!

Thank you so much for sharing htis Jon. Someone else mentioned this as well. I'm working to fix this issue. I've made some microphone adjustments this week and hopefully future videos will be better mixed. Really appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching!
What is your take on Wen vs Miles on the track saw?
Great question. I have not used the Wen Track Saw, I only have some Wen Track. I was quite impressed with the Wen track however as it works seemlessly with my festool track saw. I would definitely recommend going for the track saw vs trying to piece together a circular saw to this milescraft attachemnt if you can afford it. Just my take! Thanks so much for watching Jonavedian!
When this showed up in my recommendations, I totally misread the title as "Minecraft Tool" and was _super_ confused until I looked more closely. 😂
(edit at 17:45 - oh goddammit you played into it, okay. heh.)
Haha! Too funny!
Burt is awesome!
Thanks so much Phil! Some people love him some hate him. I'm somewhere in between! :). Thanks so much, I really appreciate you watching!
Well done
Thanks so much David! I appreciate it and thanks so much for watching! Have a great rest of your Saturday!
Just a question Can you turn around and put some paste wax on there?Has anyone tried that yet?
Some other people mentioned that. That's an excellent idea. Thanks so much for watching Larry!
This man is the genious of click bait 😂 i bet many of you and many kids have clicked this video because they have read 'minecraft tool' 😂
Haha! I think I may have had a couple of kids watch the video! :). I swear that was not my intention! Thanks so much for watching HunterBruciaFiamma!
@@themeat5053 you know... maybe that's why I have such a hard time with that thing! :)
@@FlynndoggWoodwork Dogg man, you never know.
That square and the sanding blocks might find their way to my cart.. just saying.
That's a great way to think about it! You really can't go wrong using that logic! Thanks for watching DaBurntToaster! Really appreciate it!
Rockler is $284.95 CAD and Milescraft is $49.99 CAD at Home Depot
Thanks so much for sharing Denislatulippe! Quite a bit of difference! Thanks so much for watching!
That Miles craft was twerken like Big Boody Judy. Not the same at all.
:). love it! Thanks so much fro watching Ealdydar! Yep, it moves a bit more, but it's also 15% the price! :)
I just got me a milescraft drill press today for 40 dollars
Oh nice! That's a great deal. I hope it works how you want it too. Best of luck and thanks for watching!
@@FlynndoggWoodwork I believe I have changed my mind. Harbor Fright has a table top drill press for 84. I think I'll take milescraft drill press back and get drill press from Harbor Fright instead. I'll be able to do more with a real drill press.
@@jk_wrangler13 Oh wow! Now that is a deal!
Are you interested in selling the rockler drill guide?
That's a great idea. I hadn't thought about it. I'm getting ready to organize my shop and I think that is something I'll think about then. Thanks so much for watching Patrick!
Hmm, I just use whatever scrap of wood, metal with the proper length to make my cut, cost $0
Another good way to do it! Thanks so much for sharing and watching Pete
i’ve come to be frustrated with every Milescraft door tool I’ve owned..to the point where I gave a couple to a neighbor who used them once and threw them in the garbage.
LoL very little difference in the chatter of the portable drill press.... seriously?? One must be blind to see the Milescraft wobbling like crazy!!
Thanks for watching Thierry
To my Aussie ears it sounds like you are saying “Mouse Crap” rather than Milescraft 😂
Haha! Love it! :). Or maybe even mouse trap! I could use some of those for my barn actually ! :). Thanks for watching codaroma!
Good content but sound too low.
Thanks so much for the feedback and thanks for watching!
Awww, come on Dog. I Can’t Hear You … again. 👂 👂 👂
Thank you so much for sharing Robert! Really appreciate you sharing your experiences.
That Milescraft drill-guide looks terrible.
I have one - it is pretty useless.
A simple jig is probably better.
@@FlynndoggWoodwork Thank YOU for a very interesting channel.
You are very honest and I enjoy your reviews.
@@nissimhadar Really appreciate that! :)
#Burt4President
It's so funny you mentioned that Corby. I actually thought about making some t-shirts saying that, but then I didn't want to get into any politics on this channel! :). Too funny!
I like your videos but please eliminate the Burt character.
Thanks for your feedback!
Ok nothing I need.
Hey, good! I saved you some money this week! Thanks as always for watching, hope you're out there knocking out more projects!
@FlynndoggWoodwork taking the weekend off. They had a reopening celebration for my polytechnic high school after a 3 year remodel
@@kenerickson4923Oh nice! Enjoy the time off~!
Another great video. I figured out a hack for the drill guide a while back (I spent the money on the Rockler too). It’s not perfect but it helped out with larger flat projects
