A wee bit hypocritical that they know that Pat sleeps his way around town without any serious intentions and that's ok (and their new councilman is having an affair) but Mary sleeps with someone she loves and that's not ok.
They don't know about Frank. And the double standard was very much how it was. Especially in a Catholic family. The fact she mentioned BC was remarkable. Catholics did not believe in BC. And of course girls should see their selves for marriage. This was a big deal.
Believe it or not, a Catholic girl, especially, even if she had gone to college, would live at home until marriages. That's why shows like That Girl and Mary Tyler Moore were such big deals.
I keep wondering how many people will be watching and laugh about how seriously sleeping with someone is taken, because today everyone sleeps with everyone and it doesn't mean a thing anymore.
Jack was an old fart! Who fell in love with a sweet tart his Virgin Mary. Jack got to go where no man has ever gone before! That's why Johnny and Bobby wanted to have his head on a stick..
@@jacqueline548 Honestly I like Mary and Jack. And I like how Jack's character develops. I like the chemistry between this Mary and Jack, but I don't like the recasts of Mary
Please Maeve, you smile when referring to Pat going from Flower to Flower, but act all pissed off about Mary being with a man she Loves. Its not 1930's Ireland anymore.....

I don't think it would have been as big of a deal if she (Mary) was out of the house!!! They wouldn't know her business!!!

Maeve, watch it. Your treatment of Mary is what leads kids to not share openly with their parents.
Mary is 22 years old.

That comment says a lot more about you than society at large.
Maeve got that right! Mary.

It was time because Jack pressured you!!!!!
Mary is an adult. She loved Jack and made up her own mind. She turned down others in the past and she didn't want to turn Jack down.
Jack told her , I'm not gonna wait long!!! For their faith to seem to mean so much to them, they should are all about fornicating!!!
Why do you have to explain anything, you’re not a teenager
You might not be talking to one another
