This drummer has always been the real deal. His fills and style are so powerful, yet I don't see him swiveling his feet or using crazy hand techniques to blast. Jaska inspired me to be a metal drummer and will always be my favourite.
I think not many realize how significant drummers can be to any band. Watching this performance made me realize what a solid foundation Jaska laid to CoB for years, both on stage and in studio. Great arrangements played with precision and power. \m/
What will always amaze me with this guy is how he plays every note that was on the record, the fills are 99% of the time the exact same one he recorded
Name one song of Rush that has this tempo and blast beats. Go ahead. Thought so. Neil Peart never played the drum parts of songs like Jaska has. Jaska's been doing this for 22 years. STFU.
It's the difference between being a drummer that "plays from the brain" vs one that "plays from the heart". I also do like him, I learn a song, practice it until I know every single hit and always play it the same, other drummers learn where the changes are and just have a loose idea of what to do in each part. No approach is inherently better than the other, I guess every drummer does what works for them and what their style calls for.
Love it how Jaska's playing has always mixed different styles: d-beat/skank-ish stuff, straight double kicks, doubles aligned with the riffs, hell, even BLAST BEATS and just pure f'n groovy beats. Also MAN his fills are tasty (e.g. around 2:59) I LLLOVE IT ❤️🔥 Just hope that he's gonna continue drumming in a new project or smth.
Jaska once said "I'm not really a blastbeater.. " well yeah he's blastbeat is pretty lazy but still I think he is one of the best metal drummers ever! btw he is selflearned drummer.
Trolling Face90 a bit late maybe but I like the honesty in this Sometimes it's better to acknowledge your flaws and try to compensate them in another way. Gives so much more character to your playstyle
Where the hell was this show I swear to God if it's in Sacramento Oak park area. I'm in the crowd right now getting my shoulder dislocated for the first time!!!! Fuck yeah this band is goddam phenomenal!!! I'm so sorry for there loss alexi was and always is a god of the axe !!! May you rest in peace my brother.
Everytime i see him playing i want to jump up there and raise his snare hahahah its like hes 6’8 playing on a drumkit set up for a 5’8 guy. Works for him
I compare him as Finnish Mike Portnoy. He have the same musicality spirit than Mike Portnoy have and he is not the most technical drummer ever but every beat and fill that he did was pure musical instinct!
That's very late to answer but I saw the same question on another video and someone said "asics Matflex 3 Wrestling" but apparently that model doesn't exist anymore, or is different now.
Both for the look (a drum kit this big just looks better with two bass drums) and for a quick change if he goes through the drumhead. Eloy Casagrande does it too.
Ugh, I hate that it's a trend or more "metal" or whatever. I personally love seeing what the second foot is doing if I'm in the audience. I dunno, it's just a huge let down to me seeing two kicks and one mic/the connecting rod in between.

Jaska is a criminally underrated drummer! I love where he's using cymbal chokes and his fills are perfect for the music!

One of my favorite drummer when I was younger. A lots of good memories..

Well yeah that isn’t maybe the best technique for fast blastbeats but gotta respect the one foot blast
COB have some of the best drum fills.
I just need to look closer on his ability to play this gimmick with hi-hat on 2:59 - 3:00. Speachless. Pure simplicity.
I think he also does something similar on Lake Bodom. It sounds super sick though!
Damn dude he makes it look so easy
Amazing drummer awesome parts, very tight!
Not the most technically skilled drummer in the death metal world, but his playing fits all the songs well, great drummer
"The most technically skilled" does not equal best sounding arrangements. Jaska is among the best out there for the sound he creates, imo.
Sounds fairly technical to me.
Henkka's bass sound kicks ass
Tuomas Haukka it sounds awesome! I assume its all bass drum and no trigger :)
@@CorridorOfChameleons94 I know its late, but what he meant was Bass guitar. Henka's bass guitar.
@@gammarays666 oh dang, my bad 🤦♂️
@@CorridorOfChameleons94 agreed
Yeeaaahh, children back to the best metal albums song
This very satisfying to watch
Look at those beast beats they are so clean
The speed of those feet...damn that's fast and he makes it look so easy.

Alexi actually played a cleanish solo for once
He has stopped drinking before shows. And drinking lot less in general. I saw them in fall 2017, he pretty much nailed every solo..was a good show.
Oh nice! Booze and complex music usually don't go well together lol
i agree, check out blooddrunk live in 2003 haha he was so drunk
Yeah I was surprised by that too lol
BOA BATERIA ; E MÚSICA MUITO BOM !
WOW!
Legend
damn alexi solo was perfect as an aside
He has learned to play the blasts again a bit better.
I had this crazy dream last night I was hanging out with Jaska lol
larga vida al metal!

I've met him before his only about 5 10 - 5 11
Jim Morrison back from the dead and he plays drums?!?
Lawn Ranger 😂
Some of Jane Kussmin of Kalmah
Great!👍🏻

Why wear double bass if uses double pedal?
Siiick!
Does anyone knows about his shoes?? i know they're asics, but can't find them u.u help. thanks
That's very late to answer but I saw the same question on another video and someone said "asics Matflex 3 Wrestling" but apparently that model doesn't exist anymore, or is different now.
Man I love blast beats
👌🏼👌🏼
Why 2 bass drum ???
Aesthetics, lots of drummers do that but play with a double pedal because it is easier to mic just 1 bass drum
Both for the look (a drum kit this big just looks better with two bass drums) and for a quick change if he goes through the drumhead. Eloy Casagrande does it too.
Jónas Haux Pete Webber from Havok does it as well!
It's hard to EQ two kick drums exactly the same live.
Ugh, I hate that it's a trend or more "metal" or whatever. I personally love seeing what the second foot is doing if I'm in the audience. I dunno, it's just a huge let down to me seeing two kicks and one mic/the connecting rod in between.
It's my first time watching a cowbell placed like he has. Pretty weird/uncommon
COB has been playing the same song for so many years.
Muro di potenza
one of the best songs and the best album.. too bad they have been shit the last 15 years
Nope. Follow the reaper.
Yeah what is with every band having their first 4 or so albums be the best ones. The rest are always so uninspired.
