In Pridnestrovie, a number of laws have been adopted banning the use of the term "transnistria" in relation to Pridnestrovie. In 1941-1944, when Romania occupied the current territory of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, it was called "Transnistria". At that time, there were mass deportations and persecutions of the local population, including the Jewish population, which left a heavy imprint on the people's memory. The use of this term today can be perceived as disrespect for the victims of these events and as an attempt to distort historical memory. The name Pridnestrovie should not be translated into English, Romanian or other languages.
Just to be clear, Moldavian language is the same as Romanian language, there are less than 0.5% differences in these. And at least 20% of the so called Transnistrian people have Romanian language as their native language, but at least 40% of them know it and cand read-write it, and probably 50% understand Romanian and can have a dialogue in it. But all of those know also Russian language and 25% know Ukrainian.

This represents the memory of the 27,000,000 Soviet people who died in the Great Patriotic War 1941-45. You wouldn’t have the freedom you do today to make such videos had they not fought off Hitler. Also, people there do not call it Transnistria. They find it offensive. The real name is the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic or the PMR for short.
