  • This is episode 9 of our It's Time to Run series which is our journey from selling our house to living on the road indefinitely. So far we have visited Arizona, Colorado, Utah, California, and Oregon! Stay tuned for where we go next...
In this episode we are in Morro Bay and Pismo Beach. We only spent a day here, so we didn't get to try everything they had to offer, but it was certainly a beautiful visit.
Where we stayed: Home2Suites, Atascadero, CA
Next we visit Los Gatos and Half Moon Bay!

Morro Rock blew out of a volcano. The rock was once bigger than what you see now. In 1889 is when they blew up part of the rock and used some of the rock pieces to form the jetty, which is right beside Morro Rock.

There's a lot of controversy over Morro Bay/Rock. I didn't want to go into it on the video (people aren't really coming here for that), but if you do research on the history of this area, it's kind of heartbreaking. They have made efforts to pay to tribute to natives from this land, and create sanctuaries for wildlife...but it's hard to repair the damage that has been done. It also sounds like the future of this area isn't looking too good in terms of maintaining it's integrity 😕

@vincespell to me, you can barely recognize the left side of the rock thats missing. The part of the rock that was taken was used to create the levies that protect the marina from waves. Otherwise, boats would not be able to stop here.
