I believe this song is about a brother and sister who are the same age, who used to sleep in the same bed together because of, well they hadn't hit puberty yet, and they where siblings. But then, the girl starts to go through puberty, and therefore the parents separate them. The children are sad about this, because they have slept together for years and are at unease not being with each other, innocent love. (They have not had sex with each other before, they were just used to sleeping in the same bed). Then, one night the boy is saying goodnight to his sister and they both can't take it so the boy sleeps with his sister.
Now this is where there are 2 different theories from me.
1. (Not innocent one)-When the line states at 2:50 her eyes are hinting at something different-a lustful look FOR sex. Then after that, without their parents knowing, they have incest from then on when they sleep with each other, and you can read the rest of the lyrics from that lens. Eventually, Len might've gone through puberty, and then they actually had sex from then on.
2. (Innocent one)-Instead of being sexual at 2:50, it could be that her eyes changed from sad to happy, and Len comforted Rin from then on by sleeping with her. Their parents don't know they're sleeping with each other, but it's not sexual. Len eventually goes through puberty, and from then on, he can't say that this is innocent in people's eyes, even though it is. He lies to people that he's sleeping with his sister, even though it's completely innocent.
I want it to be the 2nd theory, so that's what I view it as XD

The way I see Adolescence is not Incest. It's something completely different. Yes, it depends on the song whether Rin and Len are Twins, Lovers, or just simple Mirror Images. In Adolescence, they're Twins. But, I state again, this song is not incest.
This song is about twins who are joined at the hip. They've always been together, ever since they were born. When they were young, it was cute how the two would care for each other. Spending time together, holding each other in sleep, brushing each other's hair. But, as they grow older, and, as Rin put it in the song, "The promise that we made to always dance together is turned into a lie by my growing bosom," as the two start to grow and develop, society starts to see it as weird and gross instead of cute. Society, even their parents, start to try and push the two away from each other without telling the two anything, making the twins wondering what they did wrong and wondering what's going on. Why are we being pushed away from each other? So, they long to stay together. They have trouble trusting and being with anyone else, so, when their parents are asleep, they come together again, trying to stay together longer. They just don't understand, and want to be together.

The main idea of this song is to emphasize that as children grow older, it's expected that male-female siblings will separate more as they mature physically. It's expected to consider being open with each other to become more limited as they grow older. I mean, when most siblings reach a certain age they tend to want more privacy or to think it's "weird" sharing certain things, e.g. time spent alone with each other or physical affection.

Everyone this isn't Cendrillon. Both Adolescence and Cendrillon are made by same artist but uses different lyrics. PV Are same but are different set ways (Adolescence in day shine, Cendrillon in moonlit night). Adolescence is an innocent version of Cendrillon not about incest.
How exactly is it not about incest?? The only plausible thing I could think of aside from it being incest, judging by the lyrics, is where they grow apart as they get older and they're just singing about that. Otherwise, though, there are some pretty strong implications of incest..

Guys, to those who are saying that this songs is about incest, there's another way to interpret the lyrics. You could see it as:
A. Rin and Len have romantic feelings for each other
or
B. Rin and Len are dealing with the fact of growing up
They aren't officially siblings though so that shouldn't matter. In some of their songs they are portrayed as siblings while others they are lovers. They are simply mirror images and it makes me angry that people get so triggered over it.

So uhh, pardon my ignorance but I have a few questions.
1: why does this song sound exactly like cendrillion (aside from lyrics)
And 2: are they singing about incest?! I know it's kind of a thing in Japan but still..
1: It's the same as Cendrillon, except with different lyrics and title to fit Rin and Len's version (but both versions of the song are by the same producer and lyricist)
2: even though in canon Rin and Len are mirror images, they're siblings in this song, so yes, this song talks about how Rin and Len are siblings who grew up together and ended up having feelings for each other.
actually the producer said (from what i've read) is that rin and len aren't siblings in this song but well... more like len is a knight or some shizz that they can't be together

I never actually looked far into this song but that actually makes sense too. Except for the lyrics where Rin said "private time unknown to daddy and mommy", she could have been referring this either to both of their parents or her own parents, if she's referring to her own parents then yeah, this song couldn't be incest and it's probably just your typical "close relationship between the master and servant but they can't be together"

This song is clearly about incest and those who disagree are in denial or something. Yeah it's uncomfortable and weird, but the innocent theories just don't hold up. "Our private time unknown to daddy and mommy", "Your body temperature, through the thin blanket, breaks open my lock"? How can you explain those sentences with the innocent theory that this song is just about two siblings who don't want to grow up? There is clearly something really weird going on between them. If this is too uncomfortable for you (which I'd totally understand) just listen to Cendrillon instead: it's the same music and it's not about incest.

As an older Vocaloid fan (I’ve been around for almost ten years now wow) this comment section is wild to me, cuz like... back in the day, we just accepted that this song was about incest and didn’t really think anything of it lmao. That animated PV especially made it clear.
As time goes on, I’m seeing fandoms become more and more focused on what is okay in real life, and either avoid or explain away things that would be wrong if real people did them. It’s kinda weird, since fiction has always been a way to explore topics you can’t explore in real life. But now you see Star Wars fans bashing people who like Kylo Ren, or vocaloid fans trying desperately to make Adolescence non romantic. When, honestly? It doesn’t matter. These aren’t real people. They’re characters. Nobody is getting hurt. Of course we know what would and would not be okay irl, but that doesn’t mean our fiction has to directly correlate with it.
This is just a fun little song song by computer programs. It’s not that deep.
