    Any one who disparages this fire in any way has to realize that it affects all people living in the area. My son is there as a student just 8 miles away from the Hollywood fire. Not only is he still near the danger zone but his job has been affected. His primary job has been delivering for the various apps. They are now down. Many business that burned will also see their employees without jobs. So unless you can respond in a positive and heartfelt manner one should keep still .

      In California we did receive record rainfall this past winter and spring, but the problem was that it resulted in a LOT of vegetation that ultimately dried out from extreme heat this summer and no rain this fall. Excess dried out vegetation/fire fuel, lack of seasonal rain, and hurricane-force winds were the perfect recipe for disaster here.

    Thank you Whoopie and all of you for the kind words. From someone who has lost everything. People are saying the palisades are full of rich people who can rebuild. I am a nurse practitioner who is on a work visa from Canada and all my family is in montreal. My husband l, also a nurse, and we have lost everything and our apartment is a hole in the ground. We are devastated and heart broken. We don’t know what to do and are so overwhelmed. Not everyone in the palisades are rich and famous. Two doctors I work with and another nurse practitioner that I know of have lost their houses. We all work with cancer patients trying to fight to cure them and put our patients before ourselves. We don’t deserve this and the negative comments from people are very hurtful and distressing. We appreciate you guys and everyone who put their lives at stake to try and save what they can with the resources available to them. Now to figure out where to start 😢

    I like how they mention how 100,000 people have been affected by this and then they proceed to mention how celebrities were affected… you know the 1%. I like how they mention how they are people too but when homeless people get their tents destroyed by the police and arrested for being homeless there is silence. When all of the underpaid writers, animators, VFX and CGI artist, background designers, wardrobe and make up artist lose their homes because they can’t afford to live in LA while their actor peers make millions there is only silence. I have no empathy for the 1% who let’s be honest doesn’t care if we live or die.

    1. How are you sooo unprepared for it.
    2. Why isn't there multiple plans for when this happens.

    • @CL12356
      @CL12356 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      To answer your question, it’s very difficult to prepare for these types of erratic disasters. As someone who lives in LA now, but who spent 20 years in Florida, where you can expect hurricanes every single year as well, there’s only so much you can prepare for. The night all of this started, the winds were ranging at 100 mph, which was unprecedented and worse than any hurricane I’ve ever lived through. Even if we had all the water in the world, the rate of which these fires were being spread was exponential, as the winds were blowing embers everywhere very quickly, setting ablaze literally hundreds of acres within an hour. Is there more that can be done? Of course, always. Just as there is anywhere in this country. But I do have to give a lot of credit to the first responders, the firefighters, and especially all the people in these areas who took the evacuation notices seriously, which is the reason why the death toll is so tremendously small compared to the vast amount of damage that was caused. Literally thousands of buildings and homes destroyed overnight, with less than 10 deaths. And I think everyone living in these areas deserves a huge shout out for taking this seriously, and doing everything they can to preserve their own lives and the lives of their neighbors. The amount of people last night that had to flee these evacuation zones, and thankfully did, combined with the amount of people in safe zones who housed all these people overnight, combined with all of the firefighters and first responders who have been going at this for three days straight- they all deserve credit for doing everything they can to prevent this situation from being far far much worse than it could’ve been.

      @@CL12356 WRONG. Santa Ana winds happen all year long in So Cal. Fires happen every year in So Cal. Nobody is doing anything to mitigate these fires. It's not the Firefighters fault, it's the politicians that have put them/us in this situation by not clearing dead brush and reducing water supplies. You're just another tone deft lefty..

    The LA City Fire Department was assessing the impact of a $17.8-million budget reduction in the weeks before the Palisades Fire. Mayer Karen Bass & Governor Gavin Newsome are responsible for not having our state ready to handle fires. 80% of firefighting / management is done before a fire. Nations with large forest areas implement various strategies to prevent fires, including forest management practices like controlled burning (prescribed burns), tree thinning, proper tree spacing, planting fire-resistant species, removing underbrush, monitoring for pests, and educating the public about fire safety to minimize fuel loads and reduce the risk of large-scale wildfires.
