Rider has to stay alive to complete the story arc of Wammawink learning to share Horse with "second baby girl". The problem is, Wammawink's arc is really sidelined so we barely notice it.

I think the point was slightly missed with the elk and the general. Neither one was better or worse than the other. They were the same self loathing centaur. If the roles were reversed, the elk would’ve acted exactly as bad as the general. The elk only begs for the general to merge with him again because he got the short end of the stick, not because he suddenly learned to love himself and saw that the woman would’ve loved them too. They both contributed equally to the atrocities that left these two worlds and the beings in them scarred forever.
Nevertheless, I found you guys through your centaurworld reactions, and I intend to stick around for what’s to come :) keep up the good work.

I am so proud of this ending, that they chose to actually follow through on the punishment and condemnation of the Nowhere King. So true. I think it’s fair to admit Centaurworld is flawed in some aspects narratively, I mean what show isn’t, but that one decision to actually follow through and not redeem a two in one mass murdering world eater absolutely overshadows any faults it might have in my mind. Also the humor just kills me. A LOT of other shows could take notes from Centaurworld on respecting their audience, even when it is geared towards children.

I don't necessarily think Rider 'should have died' but they shouldn't have gone that hard on giving her that good of a death scene only to NOT kill her. The fake out and waste of such a great moment is what annoys me. If you're not going to follow through on the death don't give us such a lazy fakeout, just don't do the fake death.

Yeah. They had an excellent emotional gut-punch scene, then retroactively broke it.
The best written stories have scenes like that, but they have the conviction to commit to it.

I've re-watched this series... a lot. And I notice new things every time.
For example, like Alec was saying I do still tear up a little at Horse and Rider's moment in the end, but it's very much due to knowing just how Horse feels in that moment.
Some great animation work that's easy to miss is that at the beginning of the song, Horse slowly looks down towards Rider's wound, closes her eyes, looks away, then almost looks at it again before closing her eyes once more, refusing to look at it.
That little bit of animation right there tells you everything you need to know about that moment. Horse is so terrified of Rider dying that she can't bring herself to look at the wound. Kudos to the animation department for that.

  • @StareachValcin

I enjoyed Centaurworld from start to finish. If I am being honest, while Rider dying in the finale would have sent a strong message, I actually am glad Rider survived to be with Horse in the end. The entire first season was about Horse finding her way back to Rider, and at the end of that season, Horse and Rider chose to go their separate ways for the greater good of stopping the nowhere king and ending the war. They clearly wanted to be together, especially after the war ends. Rider even stated how she was tired of fighting in the war, and wanted to be with Horse because they want to. Even if they had a misunderstanding when concerning the general, Horse and Rider still cared for each other. In war, there are always casualties, but I felt that if Rider died at the very end of the war, especially after everything she and Horse had been through, would have felt like such a shame. Rider and Horse were so happy to be together, after spending most of the series being separated, and I feel that they are definitely happier with their new lives, free from war, and with their new herd family, in Centaurworld! 🎶

Should Rider have died? I think it’s 50/50, with me leaning toward she should’ve to make it a bit stronger. That said, the focus of the show while yes was to get back to Rider, what really mattered was Horse being able to accept herself with or without Rider. The herd along the way were happy with themselves except for the episodes focusing a bit around a certain aspect of themselves which they grew to accept. Cause of them and their own realizations, along with the ones faced with Elktaur, Horse came to her own conclusion of being flawed but happy with herself regardless.
Rider’s death would have helped show that aspect more, as it seems in the end she’s still leaning on Rider for support though she knows the choice is ultimately hers to make.

I sort of agree with you. That’s a point I hadn’t really fully thought about. However, there’s also that storyline about Wammawink wanting to be horse’s only best friend, not Rider. If Rider died, that would have killed that a little bit because instead of letting Horse make her own decisions, Wammawink would have gotten what she wanted and not learned anything about not being too possessive. the problem is how sidelined that story arc was… I think they should have done what they did, but made it more of a point that Wammawink is now willing to share (this may or may not be coming from a sad Wammawink fan).

    • @Tjprod9
      @Tjprod9 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@-mittensradio-2171 I’ll have to rewatch the show, but I can’t remember wamawink being jealous of Rider. Back in season 1, wamawinks arc was to allow others to have control, that while she wants to keep everyone safe at all times it’s a hinderance to them more than a benefit. Horse just became another member of her new family, one she had long sought for when her own was killed offscreen. When it is time for them to “part” at the end of season 1, she doesn’t want to accept it but she knows she has to as Rider is to Horse what the herd is to Wamawink, and as she’s learned through the season she has to let others make their own choices. When she does meet Rider, she has the same bubbly personality, before and after the fight, and is excited to fill her in. If she was envious, than why would she dress up willingly as rider for the bird episode without any signs of resentment? It looks more like she’s focused on playing the role right for Horses sake than anyone else’s. There is that bit of discomfort during the war, but that was more of a comedic moment as Rider was trying to ride her just like Horse, which is a new experience to wamawink. I’m not sure how it would’ve affected the ending, but having a bit of an envious side, which we see from Jessica, aimed at Rider, could’ve possibly made for an interesting mini arc for Wamawink. It would’ve been interesting to dive into her thought process, maybe having her relate it to being abandoned at an early age.

Suggestion: If either of you ever find the time, I recommend rewatching each episode of the entire series back-to-back. Based on some other watch-throughs and their respective comments, I’m somewhat convinced that Centaurworld is a series that’s designed to be binged through in its entirety within only a few sittings (if not just one big one).
It seems like when people watch the episodes with too much time between each, it distorts the pacing to a certain degree that causes key plot points lose some of their impact. One common trend I’ve noticed with Centaurworld reaction videos is the constant surprise when an episode abruptly ends. I think this might an intentional quality designed to encourage the consumption of all the episodes as a whole.
To be honest, despite its “Netflix Series” format, I personally feel as though the whole show from beginning to end flows more similarly to that of a two act play or stage musical (which is no shocker considering that practically the entire cast has some sort of theatrical background).

    • @Xenkatze

If rider wasn't going to die she shouldn't had had such a well done deatg scene. or at the very least horse's rainbow tear should've brough her back.
However credit where credit is due.
just in this last episode we had an attempted murder by drowning 100% shown on screen, a really body-horror filled scene of the transformation from elk to nowhere king, a stab in the back showing the blade sticking out from the front, and the villain actually being killed rather than just triping to his death (even when he few down the Cliff he was shoved rather than sliping down accidentally), or worse having an undeserved redemption.

I think that rider dying would have undercut the overall message a bit - I like that horse didn't need to lose anything integral to herself in order to move forward afterward. Honestly, I think my only problem is that in all of her internal scenes, horse still sees herself in her previous form.... I'm still not convinced she had to lose that even in order to accept the ideals of centaurworld. But that's minor lol. I really loved how this episode wrapped things up, and I'm so glad that they didn't redeem the Nowhere King.

I do agree that the Rider death scene fake out was a bit weak, but I really dunno how they could have made it work (since I read in an interview that the director really wanted to put in a dramatic Protagonist death scene, So just not having it wouldn't be an option)
Best I've been able to imagine is if Rider appeared to die, and somehow they convey that while she's not dead, she's very damn close, and then when she emerges on the ship, make it that the other characters are surprised, like this is the first time they've seen her up and about. Then it would feel less like "Oh btw I'm still alive too, no biggie", and more "Guys look, I survived! It was close and we were all very nervous, but I pulled through."

i love how thematically cohesive the story is, particularly with horse and elktaur/general/nowhere king
elktaur seems to be a literal metaphor for what self hatred can do to someone. it creates pain and suffering for everyone around you, including yourself. just like the general and nowhere king started a war that harmed everyone, and how the elktaurs hatred for his elk side manifests in the generals actions, turning the other half of him into a ruined mess. but horses story is one of self acceptance, learning to be strong and love yourself even when the person you rely on and love gets taken away from you. learning how to love yourself first, because there are times when you'll be alone and will have nobody but yourself
horse teaches the viewer how to love themselves, and the elktaur warns of what will happen if you don't. i fucking love that and how clear and understandable it is, and how well everything fits into a message that people these days really need to hear

It would probably be more impactful if Rider died in the end, but it would also be so tragic for Horse's character development, her goal was to be reunited with Rider since the beginning of the first episode!
I think the show has enough dark, sad and epic parts to satisfy us already. Centaurworld became my comfort show, so I'm happy nothing about it makes me sad when I listen to the albums :D There's a ton of other musical stuff where beloved characters die, and it makes me super emotional to listen. I chose to be emotional over the fun and wholesome stuff rather than a character's death, whenever I'm lucky enough to like something where no one ends up dying x'D

I think that while that the show probably kept Rider alive cuz of the TV rating and positive resolution, I think it was also because it would’ve been too hard for Horse to cope with. I don’t think she has matured enough to grieve healthily and having to mourn over the loss would’ve made her detached from her friends for a while, maybe even isolating herself from them. But the crying scene still hit hard because it showed just how much Horse loved Rider and the emotional pain of possibly losing the ones you love. So I still think keeping her alive was the right choice.

  • @HittingBandy

Honestly the death of the Nowhere King proves why children shows shouldn't just spare their main antagonist like White Diamond from Steven Unniverse, as it's not because of the reason on being too violent and dark, this show already having the Nowhere King and an episode dedicated to suicide as well as Steven Universe's Gem war plus Jasper and Lapiz's abusive relationship.
The Nowhere King brought an entire world into war, it was never an option to redeem such a character. This also goes for White Diamond, they have caused multiple atrocities throughout the worlds they have conquered, and the Menagerie proves that had it not been for the pleas of Pink that Humanity (if we were to assume the gem war never happened) would have been completely eradicated just like the many other aliens the Gems may have killed off. And the ending just flips the switch and says that in the end White Diamond has learnt her lesson, brushing past her long millennia of genocide she and the other diamonds had commited.

    • @Mqstodon
      @Mqstodon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I mean idk. Nowhere king was a flawed individual that fucked up everyone because of his self hatred. White diamond was apparently made/born specifically to create colonies, and repressed her own emotions for millenia in a false god mindset.

Ontop of all the blood he had spilt, he was liable to do it again, how many more lives would it cost just trying to rehabilitate him?

I discovered this channel after watching s1:Ep8 and becoming too invested that I just HAD to see someone else's reaction. And now here we are, at the end.
    Probably a long comment:
I found it ironic that in the beginning Horse wanted so much to be in the center of war, like maybe she and her herd/Rider be the one to defeat NW. She was so eager that I believed it too. But the moment Rider got stabbed she no longer cared about the war. And I like that. Usually in media it's the protagonist who defeats the villain, their fight being the focus of the ending climax. But here...
(I myself was very intrigued by the Woman from the beginning that you imagine my surprise when I found out she was voiced by Lea Salonga❤️) ofc I just had to be dumb and read the voice casts AFTER the finale. I actually grew very fond of everyone else's voice (and to an extent, the cast). I only knew who Kimiko and Lea at first but now the others will be ingrained in my memory too.

People are complaining about rider’s “death”, that they either didn’t finish her off after so much build up or didn’t do the fake out at all, but it’s just reality. You have so many people very close to death, especially in wars. We don’t need main, or even side characters, to constantly be in brutal life threatening circumstances with barely (literally) any cuts or bruises, much less near misses. They always come out perfectly fine or no where near vitally injured. Which is what I loved about the Harry Potter Deathly Hollows part 2 (though screw jk Rowling, love and praise to the actors) is you saw people die.
You saw main characters die. You saw the effects and the devastation- but what that chaos does positively as well. Which is reignite the passion and fire, to fight and keep going- to survive against the enemies and oppressors. For even a glimmer of hope for a better future, if if you yourself or your loved ones die. Or you get life-altering CPTSD/PTSD even if you do survive
There’s kids in the world who have to experience war life and death constantly, in their reality. Who see their child friends die in limb tearing ways in front of them. Seeing the realities of the world in different aspects allows us to better empathize, and recognize realities outside our own.
And to not be so high and mighty about not living in realities that are more war torn in grander/more openly violent scales (instead of just politically and humanistically war torn- like the US. Less grand and country-wide displays of violence. However in the US and other places, the principals leading the wars, no matter what type, are the same)

Like, the human half was basically dead from that fall, and the Nowhere King half was dying (like, he got the way he was by looking like he was rotting while alive) so even merged he was probably dying as it was. The good one treats the bad one as something otherworldly, and only in the end K.O. learns that T.K.O. isn't a problem someone dropped onto him... it IS him. But the actions and decisions K.O. made throughout the series allowed him not to turn T.K.O. into heartless monster but to try to become friends, which allowed them to forgive each other and merge into K.O. they were all way along.

considering you watched the centaurworld finale in a frog onesie I would reccommend you guys watched the disney show Amphibia which tends to be the more overlooked show by disney right now. It gives you guys even more reasons to cry in your onesies!

Man, it's still sad. I didn't cry, but it gives me chills.
I hope we get the Zulius backstory spin-off that the creator wants to make someday. ❤

It does make sense rider survived she was stabbed through the intestines near the end if the battle and most likely got immediate medical and magical attention, the general had literally just survived falling off a cliff though barely.
