Thank you for voicing exactly what I'm feeling as I write my final essays. I'm so tired of regurgitating other people's thoughts (oh no I'm kinda doing that right now) and it just doesn't feel as productive as forming my own ideas about a topic before going down a journal article hole looking for sources. Ugh. Congrats on getting it done!!

To your point about writing papers being hard despite it being almost purely regurgitation-you gotta understand the shit you're regurgitating. It's hard because maybe all the work has already been done, but it hasn't necessarily been compiled in the specific way you're trying to do it. So you've gotta read the sources, understand them (which is *werk*), then arrange all that data in a cohesive way to present something that's actually kinda a lil bit new.
This! And when she was saying that as you go through school you get better at half assing and bullshitting but to that I say absolutely not, we just learn how to comprehend and articulate into a cohesive idea much faster. Writing papers aren't about having revolutionary brand new thoughts, they're to illustrate that you were able to pull from the class and the general world pool of knowledge to critically think about an issue or topic or idea. In general, this is what college is about, learning how to think and apply your thinking power to the world around you (;
The sleep deprivation is REAL during this time so make sure you take care of yourself! Also The MCAT HAS ME IN A CHOKE HOLD but I know that you and anyone else studying for something can do it!! Good luck everyone!! ❤️
Yaass go smash that MCAT!! In the UK, I had to do a couple of different med school admissions tests (BMAT, UCAT) but medicine here is an undergraduate degree so I did those tests at age 17, so not nearly as taxing as the MCAT! YOU GOT THIS!!!

This is so weird experiencing as a recent grad. Watching I go "ah I miss it." When deep down I know "no... I really don't miss 8-10 page papers due every week" lol. Basically, you're so entertaining you make anything look fun. Love you!
I'm a history major, so writing research papers is super common. Something that my department is very focused on is making sure that we include our own interpretations and thoughts within the paper rather than just regurgitating what our sources say. We have to analyze our sources to create new conclusions. I was doing mostly gen eds this semester, so I didn't write as many essays as usual, but I noticed that the non-history profs don't seem to hold students to the analytical standards that I was trained to pursue in my history courses.

Writing a paper at the same time as your roommate and commiserating from across the hall takes me right back to college. It's amazing how quickly 4-6 pages adds up when it's double spaced with footnotes. Chicago style is the best citation style because it makes you paper look longer than it is. That's how it made I through all my final papers senior year. All hail the Chicago Manual of Style!
