Just watched your 2024 version and decided to see this one. I think my granddaughter will love the little cat bag so I'm so happy that you included that Amelia. Definitely the purple fat quarters. I downloaded the little skirt made with strips. I'm a quilter, have a lot of those and think they would be fun for my granddaughter to sew together with my scraps. She is just learning how to sew and loves crafts. Subscribed. Finding a few more fun vloggers to add to my list. :) xx Karen
Thank you so much for a very inspiring video especially the children's patterns . I have 6 grandsons and love to sew things for them but it is very difficult to find patterns for them. I am a beginner sewer and always feel so inspired by your gentle nature and your high standard in your finished garments. I cannot wait to see what you make. I made the cosy bowls after watching you and cannot stop making them now as gifts for everyone!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I am so glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you enjoy making some of these patterns for your grandsons. The shorts and t-shirt will be such a nice set for boys I think! I am so glad you liked the bowl cosies too! Thanks so much for watching and following along! ❤
Five out of four has a great free kids pants/jogger pattern .. I make track pants and shorts and use cotton t-shirt or flannel for pj's.. all from same pattern.. some with in seam pockets some with patch pockets..
Thank you, Amelia. I do enjoy your videos. You are going to be very busy as the SewFrugal22 ends soon. I do wish you could leave the pattern pictures on screen while you talk about them. I'm not complaining as you are a lovely speaker and a lovely person. I may have poor visual memory and it would. Thank you, again. I'll look forward to seeing your makes.
Thank you so much for watching, and for your comment. I am happy to try and leave the pattern pictures on screen for a little longer if that is helpful! Thanks for your feedback. ❤
I also want to join with other viewers in saying a huge thank you so much for your very inspiring, informative video, I truly enjoyed watching from start to finish.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I am so glad you enjoyed the video, and that it was helpful. Thank you so much for watching, and for commenting! ❤
You’ve chosen some nice patterns and fabric to sew. I can’t wait to see what you decided to sew. It brings back memories seeing the beautiful dresses you want to sew for your daughter. I use to sew most of my daughters clothes when she was little. I’m sure whatever you decide will be lovely! 👗🧵🪡🥰
Thank you so much Sharon. I love sewing for my children. I can't believe how many beautiful, free patterns are out there for children, and for women too! Thanks for watching. ❤
The double gauze would be great for the dress for your daughter, and the top with the knotted top for yourself. Young daughters love to match their moms.
Thank you Kathy. I love the idea of matching with my little girl! I have a dress in mind to make soon actually that will hopefully be a matching set! Thank you so much for watching. ❤
The bobbins and buttons shorts was the first clothing pattern I made so you can imagine very clear instructions. They're Brill. Thanks for the suggestions, love the little girls dresses!
Thanks for finding such great free patterns, especially the children's patterns. The size range for all of them is fantastic. For the little skirt I'm sure your daughter would love the one with the unicorns but the nautical theme would be fun for the beach. I adore the cat bag. I work at a child care centre and I think it would be fun bag to carry my cell phone, sunglasses and keys to work. The children would love it.
Thank you for your lovely comment Jennett. I am glad you enjoyed the patterns! I bet the children at the child care centre would adore the cat bag! It is such a cute make. Thanks for watching! ❤
Discovered your channel today, not really sure how it happened but here’s an interesting story for you from British Columbia. I grew up watching my mother, Amelia, sew for the Premiere of Québec’s wife who had a disability. Mom taught me to sew at a ripe young age of 4 by guiding me while I made clothes for my dolls. I still have those early masterpieces but unfortunately lost my mom last year. Not only do you share her name, you sew, sound like her, and if you look at my profile image, you’ll see how you also look like her. I was wondering this morning who to turn to for sewing questions now that mom is gone. Eerily your channel showed up in my feed. Life is puzzling at times…in a good way.
Thank you so much for this lovely comment. Your mother sounds like such a wonderful woman. How special to read about her, thank you so much for sharing your story with me! ❤
Thanks for sharing your inspiration Amelia, such a lovely range of patterns for people to investigate. I love the poppy dress that you're wearing too, it's stunning & good to see that neckline made more wearable (for me at least)
I absolutely loved this video! Gorgeous patterns. Like you, I love sewing for myself and my children so it was great to hear about patterns for both. Can’t wait to see what you make.
Thank you so much Lauren, I am glad you enjoyed the video. It was such fun to put together, although difficult to limit myself to 10 - there are so many lovely patterns out there! ❤
Thank you. An amazing selection of free patterns. All very inspiring. I'm looking forward to seeing which one you make for the challenge. But there's so many lovely ones. Thank you. 😊💐
All brilliant patterns Amelia and I have been in a bit of a sewing slump ( after I sewed too many scrubs in 2020) so hoping this gets me going again! I have just downloaded and printed the La Blouse Tilda and think it will be an amazing addition to anyone’s wardrobe especially in beautiful fabric to show off the pleats. I also hope to make the Peppermint Magazine Pocket Skirt to go with the top. I look forward to seeing what you make as there are so many options. xx
Thank you so much Alison. I am so glad the video was helpful! I couldn't believe how many beautiful free patterns were out there and the Tilda blouse is so beautiful! I hope you enjoy making yours, and the Peppermint Pocket skirt too. ❤
Hi Amelia, great collection of free patterns. I have just made the Skye shorts as a wearable toile, they are a wee bit short for me so I’m glad I didn’t dive into my nice fabric! I do like them especially the waistband but I think I might interface the back waistband too the next time. Going to try some of the childrens’ patterns for my grandchildren. Great to get a free pattern!
Than you so much Mary. It is great to know about interfacing the waistband back. I will definitely bear that in mind if I make the shorts. 😊 I am glad you enjoyed the children's patterns. There are so many great ones out there! ❤
A great selection of patterns. The dress you made from last year's challenge is beautiful, I hope you get to wear it more this year. Will look forward to seeing which pattern you choose to make. I've made the Paddington top, so just make sure you lengthen it if you make that one, it's really short otherwise. I added 2.5" and wish I'd of added 1 more inch xx
Thank you so much Karen. I really hope I can find an opportunity to wear the Poppy Dress out of the house! Thanks for the tips on the Paddington top too - I will definitely add a few inches to the length when I make that one. ❤
Thank you for your lovely, thoughtful video. Great ideas and fabric pairings. Can't wait to see what you come up with! The dress you're wearing is fab.
Amazing selection of free patterns Amelia, thank you. I downloaded the London Dress last night , it is so sweet. The skirt for little girls is great too. As i have six little grandaughters i can find lots of use for the patterns. Thank you.
Thank you so much Mary. I am so glad you enjoyed the pattern suggestions. There are so many lovely, free patterns out there for little girls. It was hard to limit myself to only 5! ❤
I am so glad that you mentioned your dress! I was going to ask you about it but more importantly the fabric you used and it is a bummer that it was deadstock. I love that fabric! Thank you for this list. Mood is a great resource of patterns, some arent my style but there are so many! Also fabric-store has some patterns as well
I love Mood patterns and the Fabric Store does have lovely patterns too, although I haven't sewn any of theirs yet. I must add them to my list of things to make! ❤
Such a great video Amelia! I’ve often wondered about zero waste patterns, and those shorts and T-shirt would be perfect for my little boys.. I’ll have to give them a look! Your dress is magnificent!!! Such a clever hack to make it less “plunging”! Hope you get to wear it loads this year!
Thank you so much Rachael! I think the shorts are going to become a stable in my boys' wardrobes. And the t-shirt looks so quick and easy too. I hope you enjoy making them if you give them a go. I am crossing my fingers I get to wear the dress lots this summer! ❤
Love your dress and all of your suggestions, that must have taken you some time to put together! Thanks so much! Might I suggest that when you make your boys the shorts you add a row or 2 of red strips of fabric to look more sporty along the side seams! That will make the shorts coordinate well with the red in that great dragon t-shirt fabric!
Thanks so much for watching Brenda. That is a great idea to put stripes down the side of the boys shorts. I think there is a free pattern from Purl Soho - their city gym shorts - that have that strip down the side, so I might check that pattern out for my boys! Thanks so much for watching. ❤
This is such a great inspirational video Amelia - I’m especially excited about doing some stash busting with the children’s patterns you shared. I have a cupboard full of fat quarters so I should dig in and make skirt for my nieces. And I can’t wait until they fit in size 2 - that Lola dress is just the sweetest!! 💕💕
Thank you Sarah! I loved finding those patterns for children - they will be so useful and I loved using up scrap fabrics in such a practical way! I hope you really enjoy making up some of the patterns for your nieces. ❤
I have the skye shorts printed out and all ready to put together. I can’t wait to see what you make. Oh my goodness!! I need to get the cat purse pattern!
Some really different patterns Amelia. I like the look of the sundress a lot. The diyb tee shirts are great and I have made them but find they do sew up a bit snug though.
Thanks for watching Annette. And thanks for the tip about the DIBY t-shirts. The children's pattern has a regular and skinny fit, so I think I will go for the regular based on your advice! ❤
That is a great idea! I am not sure I will have time to make them both in time for the challenge, but I will definitely make them both at some point! Thank you for watching. ❤
Thank you once again for a lovely video, with such inspiring ideas. I love the Tilda blouse which is just me to a T. So I just had to go and download the pattern straight away. Did you manage to get the instructions in English? I couldn't find a way to translate them. If you have any tips I would greatly appreciate them. However, I don't think it will be hard to construct. There is a video on TH-cam showing how to put it together though. The dress you are wearing is just beautiful. I think the little girls skirt would look lovely in the fat quarter bundle with the unicorn fabric in. Can't wait to see your Tilda blouse. Thank you so much for sharing the free pattern. Happy Sewing :)
Thank you Elaine, I am glad you enjoyed the pattern suggestions! With the Tilda blouse, I was just going to pop the French instructions that I couldn't work out into google translate, and use the video to help with construction. I am looking forward to sharing my makes soon! ❤
Oh, I hope you make something for you and all of your children! Of course, I know that you have other plans this month, but that would be a ton of fun. Can't wait to see what you decide on. Lots of great suggestions. I wish I fit into some of those kids patterns! 😉
I am definitely going to try to make something for everyone this month! The children's patterns are all so cute - I definitely want to make an everyday skirt for myself too - that jersey waistband looks so comfortable! ❤
Love your video! Thank you! And thank you for alll the patterns! Hope to use them soon! I have two kiddos, a girl age 9, and a boy age 7. I like to sew a lot but I need to find the time to do it! Today was my first time in your channel. Of course I'm subscribed now! Thanks again for the inspiration I received from your video! 😀
Thank you so much Claudia. I am glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you enjoy making some of the free patterns! Thank you too for subscribing and I hope you find some more inspiration in some of my other videos too. 😊❤
The everyday play skirt went on my list for my youngest one, thanks for the information! I already sew the tilda blouse 2 days ago and it's great, although it runs a bit large I think. Next time I will go 2 sizes down. Now I am going to see the smospotten & snoesjes site. Thank you and look forward to see your creations!
Thank you! I am glad you liked the suggestions. The everyday play skirt looks so simple and practical. Thank you for the information about the Tilda blouse - that is really helpful! I hope you are enjoying sewing up your free patterns this month and am looking forward to sharing my makes soon. ❤
Trying to learn the fabrics as just dipping my toes into dressmaking, thank you for explaining the fabric, I need legging fabric what type should I get 😀
Thanks Myra. It is so much fun getting started with dressmaking. I hope you are enjoying it! I would use activewear fabric for making running/exercising leggings, but you could also use bamboo jersey if the leggings are for going under dresses etc. I hope that helps! ❤
@@sewamelia my problem is I'm disabled and can't move much, leggings are more comfortable for me, do wear long tops, at the moment I'm in my pj's for comfort, the only way to get something to fit is sew it myself now, went from 7 stone to 10st and not the model shape I was lol 😅 x
@@sewamelia the first time it was sent they did not come along with the pattern. Another email came 2 days later and that one had both the pattern and the detailed directions. Just letting you know. Thanks for the cute pattern! Chrissy~
Amelia- I found this video and your sewing wonderful. However I hope you can help me with the Tilda Pattern. When I go to the site- it tells me that it is free to patrons but with the site in French I cannot see how to become a patron. Could you please advise? Now back to binge-watchin your youtube site. Many thanks, patt
Hi, Patt, thanks for watching! The pattern is labelled 'Patron Tilda' on the website and I just added it to cart and checked out as normal. Hope that works for you!
Hi Amelia. Your videos are awesome. I love your work. Your accent is interesting. Is there a hint of South Afrian? I only ask because I'm from Cape Town. Have a good day❤
I love free patterns, but I don't like having to make an account and giving my details on websites each time. Could you let us know which ones need sign-up please?
What a lovely vlog. I have just found you and subscribed. The patterns are all lovely. I especially like the poppy dress from Mood. I have bought it from The Foldline ladies and and it done in A0 because i am not very good at taping it all together. Its a lovely idea to carry the placket across I will be doing that as well. I look forward to seeing your makes. Thank you xx
Thank you Tanya. It is a lot of pages to stick together, so getting it printed A0 sounds like a great idea! Thank you so much for watching, and subscribing. ❤
There is a little bit of information in the video, I just made the button placket a little narrower to allow room for it to cross over at the front. Hope that helps! ❤
I am new to sewing dresses although I have been doing diy, upholstery and chair covers. I am sort of confused as I follow TH-camrs who sew dresses based on commercial patterns and also those who draft and cut their own paper patterns. So why is this?
I think there is lots of fun to be had in sewing your own clothes. It is nice to follow patterns, but sometimes it is also nice to just have a go at drafting a pattern for yourself.

Thank you! I love those Skye shorts - I hope you enjoy making yours! And the cat purse is so cute - I love it! ❤
Option 2! So cute
Thank you!
The fat quarter skirt idea is so lovely! Why not make them both with one in a size or two larger for next year?
I’ve tried so many times to check out the Gilda pattern, how. Did you get past the check out ?
Sorry Tilda pattern 🙈
Thank you! I am glad you liked the suggestions. The everyday play skirt looks so simple and practical. Thank you for the information about the Tilda blouse - that is really helpful! I hope you are enjoying sewing up your free patterns this month and am looking forward to sharing my makes soon. ❤
@@carolfuller2941 I just put my address etc and proceed to check out with no cost, I had no problem...
thank you a lot! great video
You are welcome! Thanks for watching! ❤
Amelia, The first choice for your daughter's dress would be the nautical print but I want her to have HER choice.🥰🇨🇦
Thank you Karen! I will have to ask her and see which she prefers! ❤
Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I like the play skirt. I would be tempted to adjust the skirt pieces to be wider at the top so the skirt would be more twirly.
Thanks for the suggestion Kathy! I have made it now and it was actually super twirly! But I might bear that in mind the next time I make it. 😊❤
The Paddington is a great top.. mine is a red floral and I get so many comments on it!
It looks like such a beautiful pattern!
Thank you
You're welcome!
Hello Amelia, I downloaded your cat purse pattern. Where do I find the directions? Thanks for the cute pattern🤩🥳
Chrissy~
Hi Chrissy, I am so glad you like the cat bag pattern. The instructions come as a pdf file from memory along with the pattern pieces.
Have a good day❤
Thank you, I am glad you enjoy them! I am from NZ originally, but now live in London.
I love free patterns, but I don't like having to make an account and giving my details on websites each time.
Could you let us know which ones need sign-up please?
I think most of the ones I shared were free ones that you could download straight from the website without signing up for a newsletter.
@@sewamelia ah, ok, thanks 😊
I just downloaded the Poppy dress and its 66 pages gesh. Its so pretty though
It is a lot of pages! 🤦♀️
❤️
What a lovely vlog. I have just found you and subscribed. The patterns are all lovely. I especially like the poppy dress from Mood. I have bought it from The Foldline ladies and and it done in A0 because i am not very good at taping it all together. Its a lovely idea to carry the placket across I will be doing that as well. I look forward to seeing your makes. Thank you xx
Thank you Tanya. It is a lot of pages to stick together, so getting it printed A0 sounds like a great idea! Thank you so much for watching, and subscribing. ❤

Thank you for watching!
Please share how to hacked the poppy drees
There is a little bit of information in the video, I just made the button placket a little narrower to allow room for it to cross over at the front. Hope that helps! ❤
I am new to sewing dresses although I have been doing diy, upholstery and chair covers. I am sort of confused as I follow TH-camrs who sew dresses based on commercial patterns and also those who draft and cut their own paper patterns. So why is this?
I think there is lots of fun to be had in sewing your own clothes. It is nice to follow patterns, but sometimes it is also nice to just have a go at drafting a pattern for yourself.
