    The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 57 with one play. Andy Reid is known for exposing defenses schematic deficiencies, and Patrick Mahomes is known for carrying out that scheme and ripping up the league. The Chiefs found one specific area of the Eagles defense they could attack, and on just one play call, scored 2 touchdowns. What was the play call? How does it work? And is there a way the Eagles could have stopped it? This week’s episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze how the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super bowl 57 with just one play.

      @@AlexRollinsNFLslight rant here
      The Walsh disciples run 10 to 15 scripted plays the first part of the game. No matter what they run the plays down, distance whatever. Partially it allows to score fast one their first or second series and others to set up plays and others to beat the shit out of the defense with things like wrs drag routes where the other route runners can just lay out defenders on blocks after a quick pass. Shannahan, Reid, gb, Siri, mcvay, pretty much any west coast based offense. The eagles kind of do this but they do it less. This crosses over to their defense. Gannon is legitimately terrible at coaching defense, it's just that defense was so loaded and Siri is that good. Anyone with half a brain knows you need roving zones like the Belichick group, or a man cb and safety shell cover with big dbs or lbs or heavy bump and run man coverage to win a Superbowl. Simple Simon zone or all out blitz shut never works in the play offs because the offense can catch up going deep in man blitz or busting seems or touch passing zones and against zone they go deep or just dominate with the run because the defenders are always half a second behind trying to slide into zones.
      The eagles might have had the most talented defense in NFL history but probably one of the worse. The 2000 ravens, 86 bears, Denver recently had insane talent but not this level but they had at worse mediocre coaching. He needed to be fired.

      I've been arguing for years that overall he's been _overrated._ I still think that he ruined Donovan McNabb's career. I felt this way since watching a game (against Washington I think) where the Eagles were _really_ moving the ball. All short passes, but they were executed in a way that made them look WAY more exciting than long receptions. They _were_ flying!
      Then suddenly they showed Reid on the sidelines & he looked physically ill. I honestly thought he was about to throw up.
      I'm watching this thinking "he just shifted the offense to something that really works, so did he eat a bad stadium hot-dog or what? & why hadn't he tried this sooner?"
      The rest of the game & until this season, rest of his coaching career answered that for me. He returned to calling only long-passes from about three minutes after that instant until the beginning of this season. It's as if seeing the short-pass game work caused him to get sick.
      It's too bad. McNabb _was_ great, but Reid's play-calling limited him by calling plays that he didn't have receivers for ever since T.O. left for Dallas.

    • @TheMelnTeam
      @TheMelnTeam ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@saitama02 People were calling him a playoff choker THIS SEASON, despite that his playoff record going into 2022 compared favorably with the all time great coaches.
      Belichick, Chuck Noll, and Joe Gibbs are the only coaches in history who can make a case for being better than Reid...they have more rings and better win%. Maybe Walsh too, but he has less than half the playoff wins. Reid is actually 2nd in all-time playoff wins behind BB. Reid has better win%, more playoff wins, and same # super bowl wins as Tom Landry now...was Landry a bad playoff coach/choked in big games? Apparently, by some people's standards lol.
      So yeah, people giving him crap before this season were bonkers. He already had HoF performance...and like Belichick, he's still an active coach! Were it not for Belichick, there would almost certainly be narrative along the lines of Reid competing for the title of "best coach of all time". He'd probably have another SB ring (Eagles loss to Pats with McNabb), and there wouldn't be a guy with a 31-13 playoff record and 6 rings in front of him. Instead, Reid will probably be stuck with "second best coach of all time" when he + Belichick retire. I'm sure he'd prefer to be #1, but most coaches would trade places with Reid's performance instantly if given the chance.

In comparison to the past couple of seasons where they try get Hill to wiggle out so Mahomes can drop bombs, this Chiefs team was more well balanced and are more about the YACs with the short passing game. I can't get over the fact that they didn't pressure Mahomes any more than they did. They spent much of the year in an Okie front bring five to the QB, and they spent much of this game in a standard four-man front. Gannon came up w/ a poor gameplan to handle KC's offense, and his lack of ability to recognize, and adjust to, what was beating his D was both surprising and disappointing. What was even more surprising was that coming out of this performance, he was awarded a head coaching role. This game should've been won in the trenches, but for whatever reason, Gannon chose to nullify this aspect of the game.

    Andy finally evolved, I remember watching him with the Eagles, he was always an offensive guru with his play designs, but his play calling was lacking in crucial moments, he didn't run the ball enough, he didn't make adjustments & he was horrible at clock management. He enjoyed success in Philly, but could never get over the hump, it carried over to KC in the beginning. Fast forward to this game, he came out running three plays in a row to start the 2nd half, I was surprised, but then it was obvious he made the necessary adjustments, & finally showed the clock management needed to put the game away. I would say that their win against SF was from Mahomes magic, but Mahomes has matured in knowing that he can't do it alone & to take what the defense is giving, the MVP was the offensive line, what a job they did. Reid's evolution is inspiring, show that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

In the first one, they mistakenly triple cover him, and in the second, the safety abandons covering the RB to cover Kelce. What I've come to appreciate for great defensive coaching is that what matters most is not scheme, nor adjustments, nor game plan. They all matter, of course, but what matters the most, by far, is teaching. Great defensive coaches are able to communicate and teach a defense in a way that the players can consistently communicate with each other and execute at a high level play after play. We see this with Belichick defenses, and Spagnuolo and lately Anarumo is the best at it. If you have average talent on defense, but great coaching and players with the mental capacity to execute and learn, then you have a playoff defense. Chiefs often have terrible defenses early in the year then one of the better defenses remaining once the playoffs start. The Eagles clearly are a poorly coached defense. They struggle to communicate and struggle to put their attention at the right place at the right time. They clearly understand their defense at a "book learning" level only, which just isn't fluid enough to match the stress of the best play caller/designer in the NFL over the past 20 years in Reid. I don't think a QB has had an easier time playing the position a Superbowl game than Mahomes just did. The Eagles had a ridiculously charmed season and were literally gifted a SB birth with the Niners losing FOUR QBs and the Giants being the single best matchup in the league for them personnel-wise that they also knew intimately from being in the same division. Really feels like we've left behind a golden age of football and we're waiting for the new teams of consistent greatness to emerge.

    what time it is, and what was needed to be done to complete the assignment. They rallied together and set themself up to win the Super bowl. Leader and MVP Mahomes knew that their life was on the line
    and wasn't taking any chance with the Eagles bearing down on them. He had was to shake them up,and nailed down the motivation strategy for the win. The stage was set for the comeback.
    Mahomes showed them how this championship game is played, it was different. The Chiefs was able to finish the assignment like the champion league team that they are. Every man held down his position and played like his life depended on it. It proved that their lives depended on that win . The team came through and came out on top, that made the Chiefs this years Superbowl Champions .
