    For everyone that want to read the short visible text: *Actually, it was only the "last" lesson that I wanted to share here. The video is dragging already. Milling the second side you really need the sand the hoels first and get the depth right... whatever. Let's pretend it was the "last" one... ...it's TH-cam afterall

    • @bitlunislab
      @bitlunislab  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      argh .. there is always a typo... I'm bad and I should feel bad.
      Here the explanation for the sanding recommendation:
      the drill pushes through the lower copper layer which leaves a rim of copper. When the board is flipped you want to probe the level again but then the probe will hit one of the copper rims and your trace wont mill deep enough

    • @satibel
      @satibel ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bitlunislab I'll add that if you don't sand the top you might have burrs which might make the board sit uneven and move slightly too.

    Such a great project and I'm glad to see the CNC make a useable PCB from scratch (with a bit of tuning and practice). I looking forward to getting one of the cheap little CNCs up and running for the drilling and cut-out portion of the job, with etching used to make tracks, which gives me such excellent results I'm struggling to let it go.

    Excellent demo of the capabilities of this little CNC machine.
    It's not a bad price for what it does either.
    I wouldn't use it to make PCBs however. It's a health hazard dealing with the fibreglass dust.

    Yeah, milling PCBs is the ultimate test of a CNC mill. It really shines a spotlight on every single flaw, and it's a ton of work to get good results, assuming your machine is up to the task.
    I had success with a generic 3040 ballscrew machine with a new controller, closed loop steppers/servos, a 3-phase milling spindle, and most of all: grid based autoleveling. I used bCNC on the desktop, and with an extremely narrow V-bit I was able to make truly impressive traces/spaces, easily in the region of TQFP parts.
    It's hard to justify not using an overseas PCB shop for cheap, multi-layer boards, however when you really need to make several board revisions without waiting over a week for each board to be delivered, it's really the only solution short of paying huge prices for domestically-made boards.

    1:10 had that cas once in my life. I had to install a machine in a room far in the building. my boss had checked if the box would fit the entrance door. he forgot to measure the second internal door.
    even after removing packaging, the device was 6mm larger than the frame of door.
    I had to dismount the device and put it into peaces and rebuild it inside the room.

    The world of CNC isn't as plug and play as carvera makes it out to be. There is still a lot of troubleshooting and maintenance that is offloaded to the end user. The 3018(and other chinese desktop routers within the size platform of this machine) fit into a really snug pricepoint for their capabilities. After growing out of one(by that I mean learning how to fix all the issues, dial the machine in, etc), I would recommend building a printNC out of steel, with ballscrews and hiwin style linear rails(rather than circular rails).
    -background in prototype machining. Carvera is a nice machine, but I can get the same cuts from my 6040 desktop router.

    Wouldnt smd leds be cheaper? And the board manufacturers can handle most of the assembly, just leave the trough-hole stuff to the users and sell it as a kit.
    How cheap can we really make this? Can we get enough leds and buttons to play tetris?

  • @McTroyd
    @McTroyd ปีที่แล้ว

    How did you manage "up", "down", "left", and "right" on Snake with only 2 buttons? 🤔 Edit: No sooner did I post that than I thought of one answer. There are four possible states in binary with the two buttons. If we presume the snake is moving regardless, "right" could be 01, "left" could be 10. That leaves 11 ("up" maybe?), and 00 ("down" maybe?). If that's how you did it, that's clever!

    • @satibel
      @satibel ปีที่แล้ว +4

      there's only 2 states for snake actually, as you can't go backwards and move forward automatically, so the 2 buttons are left and right relative to the snake.

    • @PaulSpades
      @PaulSpades 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      you only move west-east relative to the snake head, in all of the snake games ever made.

    You can remove milling remains that short traces with a hot "dry" soldering iron. It will melt the glue and you can scratch away the remains.
    You dont need a riveting tool. A small hammer will do the job too.

When I first looked it over several years ago, I decided it looked like a fork of ArtCAM and the GUI was a complete knock off. So, I assumed that they had rights to it. Never gave it a second thought due to the licencing costs alone. I am all Vectric, and Fusion 360 with Artsoft Mach4 to run the motion controller. Just upgraded this 600x1200mm machine to do metal work. Early test phase now. :)
