Skip to the Lou was always Pete's introduction song for anyone new at Banjo playing. It was the first one I learned from him long ago. Now that he's been gone from us for a decade it's great to have his old PBS videos to look back on.
How could ANYONE disagree with his politics of civil rights, peace and respect for Mother Earth. Pete is a peach and deserves the Nobel Prize more than anyone!
Pete seeger would have the best banjo tutorial 101 on TH-cam hes really easy to follow an Pete's vibe is peaceful an calming probably why its easy to follow. God bless ya pete! :)
There was never a man I probably disagreed with more in his politics but whom I respected more so because of his character integrity, honesty, and commitment. Also a wonderful musician and champion of the banjo. He could make the thing walk with a strut.
I was looking for online banjo lessons because I have to use banjo in a MIDI recording and I needed to know exactly how arrangements are structured for the banjo. Who knew I'd have learned exactly what I needed to know from Pete Seeger!
Many TXTXTX! Pete's educaional prowess and influence on several generations is almost mythic--but we don't often get a chance like this ti see it. Thanks for bringing us this rare piece of folklore an education.
Lol such an unassuming, Mr. Roger's lookin fella... yet he was soooooooo "dangerous" and threatening to the establishment they actually banned him from television for a while Haha nice.. what's funny is I'm not a liberal, and I certainly dont agree with a lot of his political ideologies, I just appreciate good music and real people and those who are unafraid to speak and be themselves and refuse to stay silent and stick up for what you believe in is right... I dont think it matters what your politics are as long as you are genuine and true... unless you're a Nazi or something, then it matters haha
Pete's banjo lessons came out in 1954, probably on record with an accompanying booklet...which was followed by the same sort of set for guitar. this was when he was pretty much banned from TV (from the mid 50's to mid 60's) for refusing to rat out his friends during the McCarthy hearings. So, I have to assume that this video is probably from around the time that the ban was lifted about 1965...when he did his Rainbow Quest program (1965-66).
Wow a militant bad mood lefty. How different. You misrepresented my statements and sentiment. But you appear to be angry and looking for a cause. Good luck.
“it ain’t no harder than walkin, but it took us each a couple years to learn how to walk”
i love that so much

By being brainwashed and full of hate. Let's make sure we are louder than they are
He was just a Marxist.
@@goodgood9955I’m sure he agreed with Marx on a lot of things, but he wasn’t “just a Marxist”
@@TotallyNotLoki He also played the banjo.

Spending time with Pete is like breathing in fresh air.
What a delightful man.
A lesson from the greatest banjo player in the world
Pete Seeger teaching you how to play banjo is like Michael Jordan teaching you how to play basketball.
a true american hero and wise man..

A great little tutorial and Pete Seeger is such a calm and confident teacher you can help but improve

@MrGrayTube Yes, Pete is alive and well at a young age of 92.
Marcel,
this looked like it was part of his Rainbow quest shows so if you find when they were you will know. they were only for a year or 2.
Pete Seeger had a unique style of picking. I've never heard of someone picking upwards in clawhammer.
Yeah it's a bit like a mix of clawhammer and bluegrass picking.
actually lots of old guys played this way
Is he thumbing the 4th string, after ringing the 5th ?
where are his fingers? i can't see very clearly.
How old is that clip from a black & white t.v?
Anyone know if Pete is still alive, don't suppose so but thought I'd ask
He died Jan 27th 2014
