I just turned 71 this month. My beautiful wife died recently, while we were out on the road, traveling all over the country in our retirement RV. We're both big Hiatt fans; played his songs for her a lot over the years. Saw him live 5 or 6 times: dive clubs, big outdoor festivals... pure magic. This song - I heard for the first time this morning. Hit me like a ton of bricks. 😢 I can relate more than I can say. This recording is in the key of F. I capo on 3, use D chord shape. F, Bb, C...
That's a beautiful story, innocence, simplicity. We had time and took time to listen to this stuff. I'll be 68 soon, graduated from high school in 75'. It all came at once, all this different music, it was good!
I don't know how much longer John has. I have been a huge fan since 1986. I saw him twice in Bellingham WA. He is my lyrical and musical inspiration all this time. A true legend and hero. There is not another one like him. Thank you John. Sitting at the feet of the master.
Mate I'm from liverpool and I class this song as good as anything lennon or McCartney ever wrote and I love the beatles, I've been through what he is singing about and it makes me cry to know someone else can actually put it down on paper and sing it so beautifully
Can't feel the fingers of one hand Last night felt like a three-night stand Mouth full of cotton, feet of clay I didn't plan on waking up today I had heart, wheels and wings Now I don't have any of these things Come and get me, Jesus, I don't know Come and get me 'cause I can't go I lost my brothers, I lost my friends Only one way this thing ends Cheap and dirty in a bad motel Wondering what it was you used to do so well I had words, chords and strings Now I don't have any of these things Come and get me, Jesus, I don't know Come and get me 'cause I can't go Shirt and pants, coffee black Open up the shade a crack Fields of cotton, fields of clay Sun going down on a Robber's Highway Winds that whistle, birds that sing I've no understanding of any of these things Come and get me, Jesus, I don't know Come and get me 'cause I can't go
Another great one and well engineered. On vinyl it's remarkable. Saw John with Lyle Lovett twice. Loved it. This year I'm going to see Lyle with the Large Band and Mavis Staples at the Wolf Trap in Virginia. Trying to find a date I can see John on this tour. I love this album. Stay healthy John! It keeps getting better.
Let's not forget John prince. He died last year of covid. I had tickets for his concert and it was canceled. Never got my money back. No more concerts.
Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan thank you for your wonderful comments on my post it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music…..❤️❤️
Just bought my tickets for John @ Ramshead Onstage in Annapolis, MD. November 13. I love this album and we'll be about 20 feet from him in very small venue.
So much pain. I hope it's not his own despair. Have never seen Mr. Haitt live and found out he played in Toronto last November. Just catching up on his prolific career and have not been disappointed. It all started with "Have A Little Faith In Me"". How could you not? I need to see a live show.
Go see John live in a small venue. I saw him and Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt @ the Birchmere in Alexandria, Va. The place was 500 or so people and it was great. I will definitely see John on this tour.
I mean c'mon, this is what I call music. No bullshit, just real life. I wish Dylan would be able to write songs of this calibre. Met Hiatt '85, was first foreign artist I ever interviewed.I was nervous like hell. John said : Be cool, stay in school. Love this guy.
norpan maalima "I wish Dylan would be able to write songs of this calibre". Surely you jest?. That is the probably the most ignorant and idiotic reply I've read this year, maybe longer.Amazing.
You really get worked up 😅, whenever the big D isn't worshipped. I wrote this during the 5 album Sinatra covers period. No new songs since Tempest 2012. Rough and Rowdy Ways changed everything. A fantastic album, admittedly Hiatt is in a different league. I assume by the way you are Americans. The whole of Europe expects you to get rid of Rump. Bob too.

Sorry my friend.

This song speaks loud to those of us seeing most of the road behind us now
Great song
Yeah; a much shorter piece of road lies ahead. That's why we slow down - take in all the details that escaped us as youngsters...
Farewell 🌥⛰️🏕⛱️🌊
I've been a Hyatt fan for many years I don't know why I have not heard this . he's amazing and never disappoints
Hiatt is up there with Dylan, Simon, Springsteen, and Earle as a great American songwriter.
Mark Erickson beyond them I’d say 👍
Wondering what it was you used to do so well, Yep!
And Cash in personality
Mate I'm from liverpool and I class this song as good as anything lennon or McCartney ever wrote and I love the beatles, I've been through what he is singing about and it makes me cry to know someone else can actually put it down on paper and sing it so beautifully
A first class legend, nothing else like him
agreed. He has the same distinct style as John Denver that sets him and others apart (though their music is much different) CANNOT LABEL
Man oh man, brilliant writing
Songs like this one makes difference from a good songwriter and a big one.

a perfect song. so beautiful
The song grabbed me at first listen----esp "I lost my brothers....."

Hiatt just keeps getting better and better

John, you're the best. Each album is better than the last.
AGREED....a LEGEND
His Dirty Jeans and Mudslide Hymns and The Open Road albums are better....just my opinion.
This is just fantastic Mr Hiatt.

Seen him many times with several different line ups. Never disappoints.
FANTASTIC
John is still the same old man!
I heard this song in Starbucks Korea by chance. And I found its name, heard it more than hundreds times.
Un piccolo, prezioso gioiellò: una vena di tristezza…toccante!
Killer ,,first i heard therse sessions

You must be joking ! Maybe better listen to BOB's early work ...

✌🏽
yess i love the music of john hiatt i seen him once live in holland long time ago
At 68 I can relate.
I didn't plan on waking up today.
❤❤❤
Who do you know, has 3 Grammy awards and a Nobel prize for lititure?
Nobody's up there with dylan. He's all by himself.
Bob Dylan "Roll on John" . Another beat, same melody line
Speaks to me! But I wouldn't go back. I'm 67, I'm okay with that. Death is anything but the end.😊
Yeah
It sounds a bit like the dylan song that he wrote for john lennon
what song are you referring to?
"Roll on John " , Another beat , same melody line
The R&R HOF is a joke.., seriously, John Hiatt is not enshrined... comical...
