There was something quite spooky about this for me. I've seen countless hours of footage of ww2 but this was different. I've lived in Munich and the city I saw in this video was almost identical to the one I walked through everyday for years. Seeing those soldiers and symbols and the hitler youth somehow just brought it home to me that this really happened and quite recently. Mad

When my wife and I and our 2 children visited Munich about 1999, the helpful and very pleasant German bus tour guide of Munich showed us a HUGE HILL of broken bricks etc that was all covered by grass. This was just outside Munich if I remember correctly and the huge hill was comprised of the debris that could not be recycled into useful bricks again. The lady tour guide said the war was caused by a “gang of thugs” who took over the German government against the will of the people.

I like Munich also today. Unlike many other cities in Germany, it has been raised almost to its former glory before WW2.

I was born in Munich and still living there. The video shows a different time and world. The only place I would feel right at home would be the English garden, nature is relatively constant.

My kids' german grandpa remembers he had to rise his hand as a salute walking through central Munich...same time, my slovenian great grandfather was in concentration camp Mauthausen. Luckilly survived, his brother not. Other croatian auntie died of starvation after liberation. Her little daughter stayed alone.

It looked the same when I was there in 1965 - Odensplatz, Feldhernhalle, Carolinenplatz, Koerniginplatz, Hofbrauhaus, Haus der Kunst, et.al. [pardon the spelling]

At 0:50, the two men are not giving the Nazi salute as was required as one passed that site. I wonder what happened to them...

-It is a puzzle how such beautiful cities of Europe, with this great architecture can be full of people and politicians that hate each other so much ?
-And they all prayed to the same Christian gods while they bombed each other !!!!

In four years from this time, the people in this film would either be dead or eating rotting horse carcasses to survive.

And then soon the US 8th. Air Force and the RAF would be checking in on a regular basis and Munich wouldn't look so good anymore. Oh well, das ist das, nicht wahr?
