ahh.. that part.. that voice.. that sound.. you didn't, you didn't have to tell me, i knew it always.. this is the most beautiful thing of all ben howard things
This is one of the tracks from this album she and I talked about at length when we did a virtual track-by-track walkthrough listen. We had a good laugh about the line "feed the dog" as we imagined "Broken Ben" depressed, unbathed and barely able to function, just kind of kicking the bowl filled with leftover pizza to do so (feed the dog). I thought to myself in that moment, "This is magic." I eventually fell in love. But I digress. Next to the "Splendour in the Grass" version, this is up there.
This makes my soul feel good. Ben's still got it, grooving away to that riff. The drummer cant wait for the crowd to hear it he knows how damn good it is, and mickeys harmonies are on point. But my fellow Ben Howard fans, you must unite with me... to figure out how to play this masterpiece on guitar.
"Tell me a thought, tell me beautiful things. Like how the river bends when the wild wood creaks." Aaaah instead can I tell you about how your voice sounds when it trembles with plethora of emotions because it is the most beautiful thing in the entire universe 💙
I'm actually thinking of getting a tattoo inspired by this song it's hit me so powerfully, I'm toying with a chain twisting once around my forearm from elbow to wrist with "come to me, make me sane" trailing it above the chain and "tell me a thought, tell me beautiful things" doing the same but underneath
The most powerful lyrics yet from BH. Together with SYML the best in putting words and sound into such powerful emotions. How this song shoots me into the universe. MAGIC ❤
I've watched this daily now for the past fortnight, multiple times a day, I was at this gig and also have it on video but I was up on the balcony and both the audio and video qaulity are nowhere near as good as this so thanks a million, possibly one of the best live performances of any song I've ever heard it's so much more powerful live
One of the best recordings of one of the best songs I've ever heard, so glad I went to this same gig, thank you for capturing it on video I've been watching this on repeat for the past week
like omg at around 4:04 where the sound turns it's like diving straight into a dream and for the rest of the song searching for an escape while everything slowly fades.
I can´t shake the feeling that it´s mostly a love song but part recovery song, because I personally believe that he alludes to depression/mental health and hard ships with some lines . Most things make him smile nowadays tho, so thanks to the continues help and presence of something or rather someone ("oh amoret with your chain" "come to me, make me sane")he´s better now and hence able to enjoy the small things in life ("like how the river bends") instead of worrying about "making history". That person grounds him in the here and now, despite still struggling with some things.
@@wildestnothing927 yeah, id agree with you there...initially thought it was 'im a wreck, with you chained' meaning that he's in a bad place and thought he was dragging his partner down but they were making him sane? but maybe its amoret? i dunno. either way i really want ben to do an interview or post on what the lyrical meanings are to him but i know its just not his style. dammit he's such a poet though and his words and music really get to me. we should form a group of de-coders haha!
I hear it as 'I'm irate with your chains', or maybe I kind of hear what I want to because that lyric really resonates with me. I interpret this song as escaping all responsibilities of everyday life, living it simple, and reflecting on everything.
@@ITCrowdRS so whose 'chains' do you think he's talking about? really love hearing different people's interpretations! i also like hearing it in a certain way so the song speaks to me-- i guess thats fine but id really love to know the official lyric intended. do you have any idea on the 'what the moon does to the devout' would mean? :)
It seems to be that he is saying 'oh amoret, with your chains', but that lyric doesn't really mean anything to me; i hear 'I'm irate with your chains', which to me means being tired with responsibilities, people or anything else that stops you from living how you want to. So I guess the chains are just a metaphor for those things. as for 'what the moon does to the devout', this is the point at which i go completely from my own point of view in what the song makes me visualize; A while ago, I had an amazing experience watching a lunar eclipse in the middle of nowhere with one of the most incredible people i'll probably ever meet. I pretty much gave all up all my responsibilities at home, travelled to a different country for a month, and this moment watching the moon was the most memorable part of that trip; the moment at which i just 'smiled' and felt 'sane'. That, and so many other lyrics in this song perfectly match moments of this trip. What did Ben Howard mean by 'what the moon does to the devout'? I have no idea, but I know what it means to me ;)
Hey, thank you a lot for your videos! Much appreciated and they are really great quality, close to the stage. :) Did you also film the defeat somehow? :D
No need to say sorry at all! You brought so awesome videos with you! Thanks again and maybe just enjoy the next show instead of filming :P All tho Im always happy to see videos...but I wouldnt even film myself I think in order to experience 100% :D
So glad to realise Ben dosent have a girlfriend called Anne Marie that's what I've been hearing all along instead of " I'm a wreck" I've been feeling so jealous lol joking sadder to hear " I'm a wreck " #psiloveyou

JTinners YES.
I'm so happy I got to see this tour live. 💜
ahh.. that part.. that voice.. that sound.. you didn't, you didn't have to tell me, i knew it always.. this is the most beautiful thing of all ben howard things
Starts at 4:48... chills
I just wrote that too xx
This song live is pure magic
5:59 Oh my lord that string bend with delay is out of this world
Une des dix meilleures chansons de Ben Howard selon moi. Quelle sensibilité ! Sublime tout simplement...

nobbeish It appears that you first need to learn to play the guitar upside down. What a handy player Ben is.
Isn't it that he's just playing a right handed guitar left handed?
@@chrisdchilds yep ie. upsidedown. He uses a right handed one so when he flips it, it still faces the right way
@@calebe321 Yeah cheers, got it shortly after writing this. Creative fella he is. I think it's my favourite from this album. Clever song
@@calebe321 you didn't, you didn't have to tell me. I knew it always... :)
This is so hauntingly beautiful. It almost hurts to listen to it, it's that good.
This is everything. Best thing ive seen in a long time.
wowowow this version of "What the Moon does" is so beautiful that little slap/drum after every phrase is like, the best thing I heard in a while
"Tell me a thought, tell me beautiful things. Like how the river bends when the wild wood creaks." Aaaah instead can I tell you about how your voice sounds when it trembles with plethora of emotions because it is the most beautiful thing in the entire universe 💙

I think the lyric is 'Like how the river bends, in a wild wood creek'. Maybe wrong though! Bens lyrics are notoriously hard to decipher
The most powerful lyrics yet from BH. Together with SYML the best in putting words and sound into such powerful emotions.

Can’t anyone else not accept this ,like in their head. It’s so intense
YES
One of the best recordings of one of the best songs I've ever heard, so glad I went to this same gig, thank you for capturing it on video I've been watching this on repeat for the past week
I am inspired by the ability of this song to capture the spirit of India's voice with the sound of those flutes. Absolutely Amazing!
like omg at around 4:04 where the sound turns it's like diving straight into a dream and for the rest of the song searching for an escape while everything slowly fades.
Exactly xx
Breathtaking Ben! WOW!!!!!
makes me happy. again.
This is a Beautiful thing xx
What an incredible version of WTMD!
addicted.
I knew it always, Ben
I used not to like noonday dream, now I'm dreaming at every noon
It’s so intimate
Does anyone know if he's just playing a normally strung right handed guitar upside down, or did he restring it and flip the nut etc?
Spencer Allen he is indeed a playing a regular strung right hand guitar with the lowest string on bottom.
No, he is indeed playing the 'Ben Howard' guitar!
Has anyone got any idea on lyric meaning for this one?

What the hell, Mr. Howard.
One of my favourite lines from Ben... what the hell
What the hell love...

Did you record, theres ur man?

Don't like Micky singing with Ben to be honest, still phenomenal, don't get me wrong.

anne marie IS the correct version though :D
Its actually "amoret" which is like a petty love affair i think
