    A quick and simple trick I use when I want to set up supply lines between two settlements when neither one has any settlers. Go to a settlement with a surplus population, use the MOVE command to reassign a settler to one of the two empty settlements you want to connect then immediately use the SUPPLY LINE command on them before they head out. Saves having to go to the settlement and assign them from there.

    A small thing you forgot to mention, is that once the supply line is setup, you can use any junk, food, or chems to craft with at a settlement on the line. For instance if you have jet in sanctuary, and psycho in hangman's alley, connected with a supply line, you can craft psycho jet in any settlement also attached to the supply line.

    my sanctuary supply line looked like yours the 1st time (central hub/web to all). but it made 2 huge problems.
    1. it meant i had a ton of brahmin running in/out of sanctuary at all times.
    2. it meant that my sanctuary had very few settlers left to be assigned to other taskes such as ood.
    the best way to do supply lines is to make a linear route (sanctuary can be the middle so fork off 2 ways). when you get to a new settlement you can either build a radio and wait for a settler to command them to connect to the previous settlement, or you can go to the previous settlement and command one from there to the new settlement. this means each settlement is only losing 1 population to this task.
    then, to make them easy to distinguish in the wasteland as one of mine from the rest of the rabble out there, i gave them an outfit and a mining helmet with a nice flash light. :)

    I'll have to look back, but I don't think you need any more than 1 supply line going out of each settlement. Connect them all by the shortest route possible, and you should be able to build with supplies that follow the grid. Like your analogy of electricity, you only need 1 wire, not 50 of them.

    Need Charisma 6,learn Local leader perk
    Now any settler can be commanded to become a provisioner from there to target settlement. He she will maintain that supply line.
    No item is transported. But the resource is shared.
    So the other connected settlement's inventory wont magically have items, but
    when you build a bed, cook, mod a weapon, plant a mutrfuit, etc. then the resource materials are available. If you got 100 steel in 10 settlement connected if you build a steel house/wall you have access to 1000 steel. But if you want to sell the steel only 100 is there in the inventory. The other 900 is elsewhere, available only as resource here.
    2nd example : weapon modding. No weapon will magically appear elsewhere, if you got a shotgun at Sanctuary its only there.
    But if you use a weapon workbench to mod a weapon in your hands then adhesive, screw, steel, all resources are available from the whole network. The finished modded weapon will be still in your hands.
    The raw ingredients, resources shared for use. If you are hungry you can't magically pull out food that is not stored there.
    But you can cook, then cooking resources are available, you can cook some radroach meat (raw resource elsewhere), the cooked food now is in your hand.
    Food and water production excess is distributed in the network. Again no inventory fruits and bottles flying.
    How to cancel : same as any other job: farming, guarding, junk searching, shopkeeping.
    Ring bell, wait 1h, then assign the provisioner to do sg else, for example put down a guard post and tell him thats his new job. Or a carrot and tell him to attend it.
    Hope this helps.
    And yes, they are immortal but if you give 1 molotov 1 decent weapon 1 ammo and some armor these lonely patrols can give you xp clearing the roads. Its ok if they only kill 2 of 5 raiders then sit thinking about the life for a minute or two.
    Also never forget they travel: if you recognise your provisioner you can drop off loot to them if met on road. For example blue mining helmet means his origin settlement is Graygarden, then you can drop off your inventory to him. Later at Graygarden ring bell, sleep 1h, take loot back.

    Ok, (hm.. just a thought about provisioners) ) according to Bethesda : if 4 settlers from the population of one settlement are assigned to be provisioners then NO extra water will be produced by that specific settlement. The same with 3 provisioners and 1un assigned settler , 2 provisioners and 2 un assigned , 1 provisioner and 3 un assigned , or 4 ( or more ) un assigned settlers. Ideally and more than enough is max 2 provisioners / settlement. Also if in the workbench are stored more than 5 different drinks (Nuka Cola , Dirty Water , etc) then that Settlement will NOT produce extra water , disregarding the amount of Water pumps that Settlement has. The same mechanics are (it seams) in effect for all other food production.

    1: Food and water is shared to where settlers don't complain and it does prevent happiness drop.
    2: All items are shared, not just junk, however those items are only accessible through crafting, not just through the settlement builder, but also through weapons workbench, armor bench, cooking stove, chemistry bench etc.

    I just have one question left. I know im way late to the party but, in terms of population count,does a provisioner feeling to both settlements or only to the settlement from which they originated? Furthermore, using the vault tec population management terminal, is it possible to manipulate a provisioner at the destination settlement and not just the originating settlement?

    • @MolnarG007
      @MolnarG007 ปีที่แล้ว

      Provisioner sleeps, eats, counts toward population where you send him/her from to set up supply line. The originating settlement only, not at the destination. Also can be summoned only at originating settlement by ringing bell and sleep/wait for 1 hour.
      Population management is for only the settlement you are in, including provisioners originating from it.

    • @mizoreboy

      Just wait for them to get back and then assign them to a crop so that it'll cancel the provisioner task

    • @slippingsnake
      @slippingsnake 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      build a bell (ressourcrs, miscelinios) to gather your settlers, maybe you need to wait some hours but finaly your provisioners will join the meeting :)

      There is no in-game mechanic to do this. But there is a mod (available on consoles) called Settlement Management Software that allows you to unassign provisioners. www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12032/

    Wow that's a supply line mess. What I do is once unlocking a new settlement I go back to the last one that was unlocked and send a supply line from it. Only 1 settler from each settlement is a provisioner so I have maximum workers in each settlement and not allot of empty beds.

    So here's something: I decided to split my supply lines in to small star section. The northwest is Sanctuary, central is Hangman's Alley, and the Castle the eastern shores. At least for now as I'm just starting. The weird thing is my Warwick provisioner apparently goes by sea not land. The Warwick settlement is the only eastern one I have that's south of the Castle. And I happened across the Brahmin eyeballing the water by the small boat off the main road to the Castle. After dispatching a few raiders up the road I returned to see the Brahmin in the water swimming toward Warwick. I took a screen shot of it.

    I know this is an old video, but I’ve noticed most people don’t know this, but it ALSO works for food and water! But only food and water that is INSIDE a workbench. So say you have 1 farm producing 100 food, and 100 water. But that settlement only has 20 settlers. Well that means you’re going to have 80 food and 80 water being placed into your workbench not being used. Well, if you connect it to another settlement that has 20 settlers but they produce no food or water? Your provisioned will actually give that food and water to those settlements. Using only surplus resources in a workbench. So you can actually just have 1 gigantic farm producing all the food and water needed to supply all of your settlements. Those settlements will still say they’re producing 0 food and 0 water (because that’s true) but it won’t be RED, meaning they’re adequately fed at the moment. Now if you run out of surplus that will change, and it will become red. So it doesn’t mean they will forever be adequately fed, food does run out, unless you’re producing enough to keep the workbench stocked properly. This can be extremely handy for people wanting to have Boston airport as a functioning settlement. Connect it to another settlement that can produce enough food and water for them both.
    There’s a bug though with settlement resources, as I’m sure we’ve all seen, where it’ll show an exclamation point on a settlement when it shouldnt (and/or settlers will complain about food and water). As if you don’t have enough of something. If you DO have enough, just go to that settlement, open the workshop and then close it. It should reset. It doesn’t automatically update since you’re fixing the problem at another settlement, not that one. You have to go to that settlement and open workshop and close it for it to reset at that location.

    • @Nathan35077
      @Nathan35077 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think of it in the same way raider settlements work. It’s exactly the same thing. Only difference is those settlements aren’t being strong armed lol

      And yes it does allow happiness to increase to 100, despite what oxhorn says in this video. If done properly. I used this method to get the achievement for 100 happiness, having only 1 settler at red rocket, and her job was to man the bar, so she couldn’t farm too. So I just connected it to a farm location with enough supplies to keep her fed.

    If u got alot of stuff to transport then assign people to that settlement and go there. Then trade all the stuff and assign them back where u want to transport. If u can fast travel it makes no sense but I started on survival mode and carry capicity is limited making scavenging hard because u dont have fast travel. Unlocking settlements and scavenging around it and depositing it there and then letting settlers mule make it very easy to transfer junk. Hope this helps someone on survival.

    I assume the a item such as a water pump when stored at a workshop in settlement A, is not accessible to settlement B thru supply lines? Your the answer man. :)

    • @oxhorn
      @oxhorn  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's correct. Once stored, each object you build is accessible only at the settlement where you build it. To reclaim those resources, you need to scrap the object.

    Okay, Oxhorn, I have a question. Let's suppose you have a certain number of settlements established, including Bunker Hill. Let's also assume, that you have all the perks necessary (Local Leader, Caps Collector) to start assigning provisioners out into the wastes. Would it be advantageous to have all provisioners sent to a single site, a la, Bunker Hill, in order to achieve viable supply lines and maintain resources between settlements? Or is it better to daisy chain supply lines to settlements?

    So basically, I knew nothing about this, and I randomly looked up. What is the purpose of settlements and then I found out that you can link them before that I was grabbing all of the junk from one workbench as much as I could carry fast traveling to the other one, emptying my inventory of junk and then going back and repeating and now that I know this, this is going to be so much quicker

  • @Sedonafilmer

    So does it make sense to have a settlement overproduce food? Or is that just a waste since the population of that settlement will not utilize it?
