I'm a Messi fan but , Maybe , i think this man might just be the GREATEST PLAYMAKER in history. Laudrup is totally in top 5 now. He's super UNDERRATED and extremely elegant. He has the passing range of pirlo mixed with his brain and shooting , smooth dribbling skills , IQ and decision making of Iniesta , kaka's gliding on the pitch and ambidexterity , Xavi's through balls and Messi and Maradona's FINE DRIBBLING and ball control. Indeed, and the fun fact here, must be the way the two players was acting on a filed. Laudrup was the gentleman, who rarely did things on his own, and was sometimes too much of a team player, were Elkjaer was the complete opposite, with he's moves from the center of the field, ploving down towards the goal, to smash that round ball in the net. It worked once in a while, and when it did....it was magic.

Laudrup was an inspiration for all of us growing up watching him play. He is a curse for generations to come, for who can ever fill those shoes? Just have a look at Eriksen. A great football in his own right, but even here 25 years later Laudrup still cast his shadow over any man playing in the same style and position. That speaks clearly of Laudrups greatness and his importance to danish football culture

Wild thing is, in '92, after the euro win for Denmark, I got to meet him.
I played in the Brøndby club at the time (Brøndby was a real working class club, with multiple teams for ages 5 and up).
I was 10 at the time and my team had just concluded our last training of the season, as kind of a "have a nice summer"-thing, right before the annual summer party for the whole club.
When we got up to the clubhouse where we'd normally have french fries and a coke, we were treated to the majority of the '92 national squad (believe it was 9 past, and at that time current Brøndby players).
We got to take penalty shots at Schmeichel and (can't remember who) dribbled around and made us realise how far we still had to go, if we wanted to become pro :'D
Those guys were so frickin' awesome and down to earth.

You have not mentioned Laudrup in the best era of danish football. The Euros 84` and the World Cup 86` and the World Cup 98 where he actually captained the team to a quarterfinal which was lost 3-2 to Brasil. Those were his glory days at national level. In his early days he played as a striker in a traditional 4-4-2 with fellow danish striker Preben Elkjaer, topscorer in Italy with Verona when they won their only ever scudetto title. The two of them made out a formidable duo, the best attacking duo at national level in Europe. They scored a total of 12 goals in the 8 qualifiers for WC 86. Elkjaer scoring cascades of goals and Laudrup the ever so elegant provider and scorer of quite a few goals himself. He played in a danish national team full of confident brilliant players from top clubs around Europe and he had no demands from the Danes who just simply adored him. See the 3-1 goal from the WC 86 where Laudrup outplays the entire Uruguayan backline and scores a brilliant goal in the 6-1 thrashing of the regarded outsiders for the title Uruguay. Denmark became favorites to win the title and everybody was talking about the modern genius Michael Laudrup.
In Barcelona he was a number 10 or if you like a false number 9. And his passing was so outstanding that sometimes you would get the feeling that the whole Camp Nou didn't see the possibility of the pass before he made it. Taking out a whole defense with just one touch and delivering it with inch precision, masked to perfection. Never seen passing at that level before or since, simply the best at the masked pass. His stats for assists where through the roof. As you could see when he arrived at Real Madrid. Zamorano was not doing well as striker in Real scoring 11 goals in 93/94 season, then Laudrup arrives and in 94/95 season Zamorano became top scorer with 28 goals.
Whether Slatan or Laudrup is the best Scandinavian is up for debate. In my biased view though being a dane there is no comparison. Laudrup was different class, he was a genius, he was a once in a lifetime experience with elegance, class, superior vision, brilliant technique. He was simply Wonderfull to watch and he inspired so many great players to follow like Iniesta and Guardiola. For me he is my all time favorite behind Zico, with Messi as number 3. Zidane was a great player but he didn't surprise all of us and inspire us the same way Laudrup did.
