Happy to find another high school teacher. At my school the art classroom is massive and bright. I love your ceiling! I just subscribed.

I’m happy when I find others too so I can connect! I feel like there aren’t many high school art teachers on here! I’m so excited about the space and am loving the ceiling too! Thank you so much for subscribing ❤️

I'm a STEAM Teacher in an Art Classroom. You are doing it exactly right by clearing out the storage first. I haven't yet and watching this makes me want to. Great video!

Oh how awesome! This is only my second year teaching art, so if you have any advice or “must do” type things let me know! Thank you so much, and I’m glad you stopped by ❤️

Love the Harry Potter theme you are going to do. Love Harry Potter. The glass bottles do look like potions bottles, and then themes for the storage rooms are excellent. For your storage room I would have it like Dumbledores Office with a “Sherbert Lemon” password type thing

@@ashtonelizabeth you’re welcome. I’ve just been to the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London. It is fantastic. If you’re ever in the UK it’s definitely something you need to book and do. You can spend hours there. Xx

@@ashtonelizabeth lol. I live in Yorkshire. Close to York and they have the Shambles which looks exactly like it has just come out of HP too. They also have some HP themed shops. I think you can do an online tour of the Shambles or something like that. Don’t quote me on it ❤️

Students secretly like themes. It reminds them of their elementary days. I’ve also just picked a topic as a theme like mountains.

I have to agree with you Melody! I think it's so important for the HS kids, why take out the fun?? Ooooh I love that idea!

The worst part is inheriting a classroom from a hoarder because it then falls on you to clean up. It does get better once you have your own systems in place, and it feels like your classroom instead of someone else's hoard.

I know this video is a couple weeks old and I just found your channel but I just wanted to mention that you may want to be at least aware that in HS you may have some students who are super anti HP. Personally, I think the few ideas you tossed around to the camera today sound fun, and if it’s what YOU enjoy that’s important too, because at the end of the day, you’re the one who will be in the room all day.
I didn’t take art classes in HS, so I don’t know if you have standards to meet/teach. Will you have to have units on different eras in history? Or principles or….?
Also, I don’t know how big your school is or how many students you’ll have, but it would be super interesting if you could maybe buddy up with an English teacher or two and when they’re doing a unit on a certain book or time period in history, you could incorporate art from that time period or something.
Sorry, I know you didn’t ask for ideas on what to teach, it just popped into my head. I remember when I was in hs we had an integrated class between English and social studies.

Hi Amber! Yes, I know there will probably be a lot of kids who don't care for HP, and that's okay! Other than the decor, I don't correlate the franchise with my teaching. The theme is just for fun and it makes me happy and feel less boring!
Yes I have the teks to follow for all of my art classes. I cover the principles of design, elements of art, and incorporate art history with it! Collaborating with an english teacher is a great idea! Thank you!! ❤️

@@ashtonelizabeth I didn’t mean kids who do and don’t like HP, I meant more on a political level. Because of the authors public comments and statements, you may have students who feel ostracized or even like you’re making a “personal attack” on them - even though you’re not.

Instead of keeping the boxes, do they sell table smocks? That way you can reuse them .

    • @ashtonelizabeth
      @ashtonelizabeth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Good question Elizabeth! I actually have some table containers I could use for some basic supplies, but I haven’t decided on that yet. I didn’t even think about having smocks for the kids, I didn’t come across any either. I’ll definitely look into it! Thank you. ❤️

I feel freaking out to imagine how to face the students. Is it meaning that I don’t fit to teach art. I value peace and stable life a lot. I also LOVE ART and kids. I love colors and craft and paintings. But I’m not good at drawings and paintings. My English is not native language. I am unsure if I love teaching or not. Im anxious to people. I’m a foreigner from China. Do you think that I fit in the job for teaching art? Thank you.

    • @ashtonelizabeth

I totally understand because I honestly feel the same way! I’ve always had a passion for art and love kids so teaching made sense. But after four years of teaching I’m realizing it’s not meant for me, at least during this phase of my life. There’s a lot of anxiety in teaching and it can become unbearable at times. So I personally am taking a break from teaching, but I can’t tell you what is best for you. You may have to try it out to get your answer. You might feel the same way as me or you may totally fall in love with it! You’ll never know unless you try ❤️
