    Good video, thanks for drawing attention to cut ratings on gloves. Just to add, ratings 1-5 are for the old 2003 version of EN388. Ratings A-F are for the newer 2016 version of EN388 (ISO). It uses an improved test method. Broadly old 1-2 = new A. Old 3-4 = new B. Old 5 = new C - F

    I'm in the U.S. and just found out about the ANSI cut resistance ratings that are used here, now. Instead of levels 1-5 like they had before, they have A1-A9. I'm not sure I need any, but will probably order some level A3 gloves so I'll them on hand (pardon the pun) if I do need them. We had a guy at work get his thumb "ripped out by the root" so to speak, because he was wearing gloves while operating a rotating tool, a drill press in this case. It caught hold of his glove and there was no re-attaching his thumb like there often is with amputation by cutting. We had another guy get 4 fingers and part of his hand amputated in a sheet metal stamping press. If his thumb could be transplanted to the other guy, he'd have a whole hand again.
    I haven't had the need or desire to buy anything on eBay yet. I looked at something on there once after doing an image search online, and the seller was completely misrepresenting the broken fraction of an object he was selling. I won't buy possibly counterfeit gloves from Pablo Vargas or anyone else on eBay, but I will buy gloves from reputable companies like Mechanix Wear. Also, good video, Dad Diaries. I didn't know anything about the EN 388 standard until this morning, and now I know what to look for in cut resistance.

    Good to know Mark! I have trouble finding gloves small enough for my hands 🙄😂😂

      People buy stuff like this, assume it's what they paid for and get injured because it's sub standard! Yes my wife has the same problem 😅

    I had no idea that's what chainsaw gloves do. Just get yourself a pair of chain mail gloves and call it good!

    • @DadDiaries
      @DadDiaries  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha yeah chainmail may be a bit heavy though lol. Yeah chainsaw gloves and trousers etc have loads of fibres in them and when they get cut by a chainsaw the fibres whip out on the teeth of the saw, gum up the drive and brake and stall the saw. That's why they are class rated...it depends on the power of saw it needs to overcome. Simple but clever.

    Are you in the EHS trade? Good tips buddy wouldn’t have given it a second thought. I buy those nitrile coated gloves from amazon 50 pack for a tenner. They last maybe a day with the spanner’s on a cold day but I’m happy with them. They are better than the nitrile gloves but do soak up on oil.

      The words safety and compliance may be in my job title lolol 😜 good nitrile gloves or paw life savers for me too. Can't get any at the moment understandably. Hope you and your family are staying safe bud 👍

    Not if it's from Amazon. How are they legally selling crap??? Laws are useless.

    What about gloves that have a tag sewn into the inseam that says cut level 5, hammer with shield symbol, and EN388... but nothing else, not even a brand on the tag? Is it a knockoff? A pair like that came bundled with a whittling kit but it seems like garbage.

      You certainly have to be careful these days with the amount of counterfeit goods about! I just try and buy the gloves from reputable stores now.
