Cheers

    I broke every rule the first year i moved here. It's only taken 40 more years to get it almost right. Auguri complimenti e buon ferragosto 🎉

    Point 3 doesn't apply to beer, of course.
    Point 7 is generally true but we make a lot of exceptions.

    All right but the usage of the spoon to eat pasta is something to avoid even in a very informal situation

      This is something I see people do when eating with friends and family so I think it probably depends on the person….

    Love the tips. Maybe another video for "Tips when shopping at the market and another for at the grocery store" would be nice.

    I didn’t know the thing about only filling the glass half way. Maybe that is why my husband only gives me half a glass of water! I was really surprised about how Italians often fold their pizza. I don’t do this, but maybe I should embrace it in an attempt to be more like them

    • @MsBritaly

      Yes - try! It’s the only way I eat pizza now!

    The only time I visited Italy, we were a group of 6 and we could never get the ordering sequence down. It wasn’t the American sequence of drinks-appetizer-main-dessert, with everyone ordering each step of the way at the same time. It instead devolved into a free-for-all, as waiters never approached us and took our orders in order, the way we expected them to; it’s like they just wanted us to call them over when an individual was ready to place his/her order. By the last day, it became a running joke when one of the guys had received his dinner before some of us had even ordered. No idea what we were doing wrong but we’ll be better prepared next time 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Aw yes it can feel overwhelming at points. You will get the hang of it though next time, I’m sure!

    A few friendly remarks from an Italian: 1 please don't say "buon appetito", it's something only peasants used to do fifty years ago; 2 mopping the sauce with a piece of bread is very very very informal and you only do it in your own kitchen when you are a little kid; 3 eating spaghetti with the help of a spoon (or cutting it with a knife) will make everyone look at you pitifully thinking "clumsy foreigners". The remaining advice from the video is correct.😅

      I honestly don’t know if this is yet another example of a North/Central/South Italy divide but in the 6 years I’ve been living here, I have never heard anyone tell me not to say Buon Appetito. It has been said at pretty much every meal I’ve ever had here.
      As for the bread tip - I do say it’s informal so I feel I made that clear and also I said the same thing for the spoon with the spaghetti but thank you again for highlighting that!
      I do think sometimes that when we come from a country, we can sometimes feel we are an authority on that place. As a British person, I can humbly admit I don’t know everything about my own country and I think the same can be said in other situations too.

    'buon appetito' is not approved by the galateo, so it should only be used in informal situations, with friends or relatives

    • @MsBritaly

      Really? In literally every situation I have been in - formal and informal - I have heard it used.

    • @fabiozen75

      The etiquette says not to say buon appetito but even though we know this rule, we keep saying it because we like it so much

      @@MsBritalyno. Don't worry, it's just a strange thing that came out recently. No one really takes it seriously and we keep saying buon appetito without any problem 😄

      It is informal, but here we are very informal, everywhere 😂

      Ammazzacaffè is the name Italian people give to the small glass of alcohol they usually drink after coffee at the end of the meal

      Il digestivo, o limoncello, o amaro o mirto o grappa 😂

    • @pinucciobisceglia5469

      @@MsBritalyNo, the spirits served after the coffee at the end of a meal. It could happen that in some informal restaurants they call them "ammazzacaffè".

  • @Lulibag

    No!

      Don’t worry I do say that it should never be done in restaurants 😅
