NEEDTOBREATHE "Wasteland" (From The Live Room Sessions)

- The Live Room session was recorded in Studio A at the infamous Ocean Way Recordings (Los Angeles, CA) earlier this year, the same room that artists from The Beach Boys and Frank Sinatra to Whiskeytown, Radiohead, and Tom Petty used before us. Despite the fact that we were coming off of a long break from playing music together (the session was captured before the release of Rivers In the Wasteland and its following tour), we knew that the opportunity to record at Ocean Way was something we would regret passing up. We were a bit nervous because for many of these songs, this was the first time we had played them as a band since recording them. But as we began "making noise" to test the microphones and get sounds, something happened that moved us to take chances with the setlist and the song arrangements that we are so happy we were able to document. Hopefully you can feel the energy of this incredibly special time for us. In retrospect, this session represents a landmark for NEEDTOBREATHE. This is the band getting our mojo back.

Nine years later and I still come down here to watch it.
My goodness it's so perfect. So delicate and well balanced. Not too strong, not too weak. Just perfect. Every little detail so well put together. The drums are light and elegant. The backup vocals are balanced so delicately with Bear's voice which doesn't go overboard. That mandolin kills me every time. The bass brings it all together in a hug so beautifully. Goosebumps!Goosebumps!Goosebumps!
Couldn't have said it any better. (: Seeing these guys live is truly amazing. They sound so good in this version. I heard them live a month ago and it was life changing. (:
Well said. I love how everyone (vocals & instruments) builds steadily to the crescendo. Perfection.
2023 found this wonderful piece from red clay strays cover . Even the original is spectacular!!! 🥃🥃👍🏻👊🏻
Love this very Powerful Truw words.
2023 now. I come back to this again and again and again.
I love how the song slowly builds up to this climax, how the drums begin so gentle and grow stronger to this... outburst.
It takes guts to evolve a song after you record it. Listen to the studio version of this song and then to this and it is night and day. NTB, you have created transformative magic in this version of Wasteland. Thank you for sharing your gift.
This is amazing. I've heard this song at least a hundred times, but I'm almost in tears hearing this.
not the only one!
This song speaks to me in so many ways. I want to serve God and I have served Him for years but wandering away in my deeds, in my insecurities, in my fears and doubts...getting lost in serving and forgetting who I'm serving. They're right. "It's wrong when it seems like work" I need Jesus
Like the rest of the album, this song is fantastic. You guys are truly gifted.
2020 - still here.
After 3 years, I still turn to this song during times of struggle - specifically this version. It is very very rare that I ever like (or even love) variants of great original recordings (The studio LP version of Wasteland is superb), but this acoustic is simply A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! It will be hard for any song to knock this out of my top 10 playlist.
i dont know how many years its been for me, but at my lowest times i still turn to this. The original version am sort of jsut checking this out
Amen! OHHHH how I love this band⋰⋱⋰⋱❤
YES YES YES - Such an amazing version of this song!
This video (and song in general) is so beautiful and moving! It always makes me so emotional when his voice shakes while singing the words "and their hearts are like mine"
Man I didn't think this song could get better, then it did. WOW!
Right!?
This song is so unbelievably crisp and closely intertwined... i cant get enough. Perfect
I remember hearing this first on their Live From The Woods album. When he says that line, "all of these people I meet, it seems like they're fine, yeah in some ways I hope that there not and their hearts are like mine," it would always break me down, because after leading worship for 12+ years and always getting overlooked and treated like complete garbage, that line would resonate so deeply! I'm still a Christian to this day, but I don't live according to other people's opinions.
That’s the way to live, brother! Thanks for sharing your connection to the song!!
What kind of opinions? @Daniel Cobarrubias
It's one of my favourite song. Terrible experience in a church. Faith is stronger because Jesus showed me how much I needed him.
WOW. A "crack in the door ... it's all that I need to shine". That is one of the most powerful lyrics I have ever heard.
Such a sad song but it’s absolutely beautiful
This band has my 💖
Beautiful song & this live version is wonderful. Love it.
Fantastic - This song really touches the heart. Thank you
Love the way this version ended... I wish they could have added it as an additional track to the album.
I remember meeting these guys 10 years ago. It was a small venue but still the best concert I’ve ever been to! Such beautiful vocals and they give it there all! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 😀
The hum...when no one sings, I almost missed it but it is exactly the part of this song I needed.
This is so so so so so incredible
Such an incredible song & performance.
Love NTB & “The Heat” is still one of my top 3 favorite albums ever.
Great bands do their own songs better over time and end up performing live better than they did on the album. This is a great band.
Song like this remind you why music is so powerful. This song perfection.
Cream of the crop in the Christian music scene here! And, in any music scene as as I’m concerned.
Ridiculously great
majestic!

Can´t hold the tears in my eyes... don´t know why.. it makes men cry. His voice and the music :((

Josh and Seth sound like angels with their background oooh's.
turtlegurl06 yes!!! Their voices are definitely angelic. 😇 🎀 ⚡️
I think you mean Bo and Seth though...I do see Josh singing too, but I never really hear his voice as much as the other two. 🤔
Amazing
This kiwi says you gotta listen to this volume up... love the buildup to finish
Love it. Want more..
A truly beautiful song... poignant, but uplifting lyrics; a true reminder that "if God be for me, who could be against me?"
Thank You.
I've never appreciated Bo's harmony enough before this
that reverb in the oohhhs tho
There's a River in the wasteland
Awesome!
Needtobreathe
Neverceasetoamaze
why isnt the ending of this a selah or instrumental break in the album...even an intro....sooo majestic and musically energetic
I didn't expect to say this, but I like this version even better than the original.
Who's listening this in 2020??
Me...again. 😊 I love these guys so much.
I didn't like this song at first. Then i really listened to it. Then i saw them do it live. Now I really like this song.
♥️
😍
Oh My God
❤😢❤
Good stuff.
That drummer was an intern at their studio and one day they needed a drummer and someone mentioned he could play. They all laughed when they realized they had a really talented drummer making coffee runs. Now he is touring with one of the most talented bands in the world.
That came to mind during the video. WOW.
Drummer definitely looks like a Starbucks Barrista.
Awesome version. Although it sounds like they had Bear turned up a little too high.
I'm an atheist and usually don't like when songs talk about god, but this is amazing!
Well I think wasteland as wrote by both of the brother rineheart, during the healing process that they had to endure of mending their shattered hearts from the pain they had caused one other.
I'm a minister [in the Presbyterian Church (USA)], and these guys are one of the few Christian bands that don't make me embarrassed to be a Christian.
I don't think any band should make you embarrassed to be a Christian no matter what they say or do; but I do understand what you mean.
He is calling the lost out of the darkness into His wonderful light in these ends times. May His perfect peace which surpasses understanding come upon you and give you the greatest gift ever given...a free gift too...salvation in Christ! I almost gave up on this life many times...battled depression for over a decade and He took all the pain from my past away when I was reborn Jan 2019. Now He uses me to speak of His glory to so many. He did not come to condemn the world....but save it and soon miracles will happen in abundance leading so many to the Cross. A revival is coming. Love you all and God bless you all and all those around you in the mighty name of Yahushua Hamashiach!!!
Reminds me of Kings of Leon
