great vid, luv this era , and will have to get it , and i only play solo so hope i can manage it, wish all games made regardless of era or company , should have a solo play option , thanks again
Thanks for the video! While I've not played Coalition, I have played Pitt's War many times and greatly enjoy it. It's the only strategic level game that I've found that covers the entirely of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars in a seamless campaign. Unfortunately, the magazine format does limit the game somewhat, but it is certainly good enough to be upgraded into a boxed game.
That was my sense of the thing for "Pitt's War" too, which is why I started with 'Coalition'. I like the idea of having the entire Napoleonic Period covered, not just after Napoleon becomes Emperor. Pitt's War really should have been releases as a fully boxed game, but I get 'Coalition' covering similar material was one of the reasons that it was not. Who knows for sure?
Good review. This one looks a bit too high a level for me. Just got a copy of nations in Arms. I'll have to look if you've reviewed that one. Looks very good.
Somehow, I just couldn't get into 'Nations at Arms'. I didn't like the counters and it was just 'all too much'. I didn't care for the other designers game "Napoleon Against Europe" either. He has done 'Pitts War' also, so is his 3rd shot at the topic. That game is very simple (as this one is) so maybe that's the way to go. I don't know. I just have not been satisfied with many of the grand strategy games on the Napoleonic Wars. The only exception was/is "The Napoleonic Wars" from GMT and now long out of print.
appreciate the response. I was always interested in Napoleonic Wars (also Wellington). Wish I could find copies. There's always Vassal. I skipped the film "Napoleon" due to the reviews. I usually rather make up my mind myself but the reviews validated what I anticipated anyway. I did watch "The Duelists" last night based on your recent episode about movies. It was a bit strange but I liked it. Production values were excellent.@@XLEGION1
Thanks for posting this. Would enjoy seeing you review or play High Flying Dice's Tippicanoe, St. Clair's Folly. and Kekionga.
After watching the video, I went to my local game store and purchased a copy. I also have Pitt's War but have not played that.
Compass Games has this title on their year end sale for $35.

Hi, Gilbert! Could you do a video on Pitt's War sometime? Thanks!
thank you just picked up Napoleon's Eagles from Compass
Pitts war's map looks way more like Napoleon against Europes map.
Was it intended to be a simpler version of NAE?

Gilbert, please do Pitts War (I’m more interested in that one than this Grand Strategic game).
