    Arsenal are struggling to score goals this season and one way to fix that problem is to sign a striker. Also, Bukayo Saka seems to be teetering on the brink of injury and with Gabriel Martinelli underperforming as well, a new versatile winger could be a sensible transfer.
    JJ Bull and Jon Mackenzie discuss some options that could improve Arteta’s side this January and beyond.

      @@Benito264appreciate that but the athletic's content is dry and boring. I try to like it but it just takes all the fun out of football.
      The tifo podcasts and content generally was great and got me through lockdown. Now they feel a lot less personable.
      It's a shame that the athletic invested in them just to convert it to the athletic.
      I'm surprised to see the name change, it doesn't change much but confirms what I had been thinking that tifo seems a lot more like the athletic than usual.

      Honestly, I was thinking about this, and it might just be that Football has actually changed since then.
      The top clubs have so much money that they basically don't need to search the depths for signings, they'll all play for well known clubs. additionally, because their players are so expensive they can only sell to each other. Arsenal don't need to sign Sangare, Forest have the money to do so instead.
      It might be more interesting if they made videos for smaller clubs, but we all know the incentives aren't there to do that.

What Tifo used to mean has been almost entirely stripped except from the little bits of JJ's personality and this is the second to last nail in the coffin with the last being if JJ leaves or gets sacked. Changing the name is emblematic of all the changes that have had a negative effect on the channel like the removal of the podcast , Alex leaving, sensible transfers becoming about the mainstream instead of niche key picks. At the beginning of last season I could play passes through the team easily because their pressing and marking was so poor but over the last couple scrimmages I have played with them almost a year later I am getting pressed and my passing options are being covered so well, this was a credit to John for all the out of possession principles he explained that I was then able to explain/implement with my team. Fabio Vieira, Emile Smtih-Rowe and Kai Havertz are all capable of playing the more dynamic advanced midfield role.
    I also suggest that, having upset people with the name change, The Athletic FC keeps everything else the same!

    The real problem here is that Arsenal spent big on Raya, Havertz and Timber, none of whom were for real positions of need. Raya is an improvement over Ramsdale but not a £40m improvement, Havertz was an overspend and doesn't seem to have solved any problems. Timber will be excellent I expect but their existed central defence partnership was already a point of strength. Given FFP rules it becomes much more important to spend efficiently and Arsenal just didn't in the summer.

    I sincerely believe that Athletic people have always been jealous of Tifo's success and just grab and rebrand whatever they can, not knowing what makes Tifo great. TIFO IRL died months ago when they killed the podcast and all the funny wacky non football stuff was gradually removed from the videos. I still love JJ Bull but it seems he has to be more reserved now, I like Jon but I feel he lacks a sense of humour, and football is a game not anything to be super serious about. I see less and less of Joe Bovine, Seb is gone (though, he reappeared on the Athlletic's podcast so maybe he'll return), Alex is gone ... Tom Worville escape the scattergram and Mark Carey rarely shows up. I feel The Athletic FC is just going to be Tifo IRL gone corporate.

    I would question both the Neto and Osimhen suggestions. Osimhen has been pretty bad this season, stats may be decent but if you've watched him, you'll know he's missed some quite clear chances. Which wouldn't help our goal scoring issues that we currently have. I also think for a 25 year old, he's still very raw, good at hold up play and decent ball control but still a bit raw.
    Neto's injury history concerns me, as someone who is supposed to be a backup for Saka, ideally that person would be reliable. Arsenal have enough injury prone players I don't think we should add Neto into the mix.
    My favorite picks are;
    Solanke or Toney
    Torres
    De Jong

    Can we make The Athletic see this? As an Arsenal fan, these are my SENSIBLE transfers:
    ST: Taiwo Awoniyi: Tall, strong, pretty young, reliable, proven, stays central, dominant in the box, and can create chances by linking up with wingers.
    LB: Ferland Mendy: RM looking to move him on, very rapid, tall, in his prime, SO SKILFUL, world-class defender, and can go forward. Could become the next Ashely Cole or like Arsenal's Kyle Walker
    RW: (This would have been the Ghanaian Messi, Mohammed Kudus) Alejandro Garnacho: I think this could be viable, especially in Man U's FFP situation. Right or Left. You could also go for Tella, Pelestri, or Bakayoko. On the more permanent side, Rodrygo could compete and maybe overtake Martinelli.
    CM: A lot of options here, Paulinia, Onana, and Curtis Jones, all good options. Jobe Bellingham is also there but not a starter yet.
    RB: Jeremy Frimpong: How do you solve your RB depth and your RW problem? Someone who can play both. Fast, very good going forward and coukd provide a great, quick overlap for Saka and can invert. The overlapping pace of Frimpong and Mendy would give us the league EASILY.

  • @mattishidayeo
    @mattishidayeo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My suggestion for Arsenal: 3-4-1-2
    GK: Raya
    RCB: Saliba | White/Timber
    CB: Gabriel | Saliba
    LCB: Kiwior | Gabriel
    RW: White | Tomiyasu/Timber
    RCM: Odegaard | Vieira
    LCM: Rice | Zinchenko
    LW: Timber | Kiwior/Tomiyasu
    CAM: Havertz | Smith Rowe
    RF: Saka | Jesus
    LF: Martinelli | Trossard
    Timber and White to invert on either flank. with a back three to help maintain defensive structure during these forward forays.
    For this, I would like to see Arsenal make a move for Joao Cancelo, who doesn't seem to be wanted over at Man City. Him and Timber are both capable of playing on both flanks, which cause problems for the opposition should they switch mid-match. White would then return to being the designated RCB in my back three, though this does relegate either Kiwior or Gabriel to the bench.
    Odegaard would play in a deeper position to help unpick defences with his passing and vision, while Havertz operates as the raumdeuter with his height and skills. He may not have the best finishing, but having two forwards around him to play off to should help alleviate the goalscoring burden.

    Funny thing that Schlotterbeck is highlighted as a wildcard for his progressive carries / passes (in 86 and 96 percentile respectively), and thus could give Arsenal another dimension, while forgetting that Timber is on his way back from a lengthly layoff, and boasts a 99 percentile in both categories.

    JJ: "I think Havertz is a player who has non-speed"
    Huh ? He is actually quite fast, he has created quite a lot of chances for him and others with his speed combined with his off the ball movement this season. This criticism makes no sense, sure he has weaknesses, like his lack of killer instinct in the box or his chance creation through passing, but speed ain't one.

      Havertz is everything people think he isn’t, he looks lanky and weak but is pretty strong, he looks clumsy and uncoordinated, but has great technique and positioning to arrive at the right moment. I’m glad Havertz is at Arsenal.

    • @lokiness13
      @lokiness13 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah he is way stronger than most people give him credit for, he is a great player to have in a pressing system, he wins a ton of balls thanks to his mobility, anticipation & strength.
      Indeed, his technique is quite underrated aswell, he has a great first touch for example (arguably the most important technical skill) but it mostly goes unnoticed by non-Arsenal fans.
      And as you mention his box crashing timing is top aswell, it has won us multiple games this season already, there is also plenty of times where his off the ball movement opened crucial space for team mates (I think it was West Ham away where he created the space through movement for 5 out of 6 goals).
      Cheers from France mate !
